"Is my ride worth putting major money into. Its only got 145hp stock. And you can't say its not heavy. With that being that could it be compared performance-wise to a HONDA CIVIC. I mean hell, thatz close to 20hpover the civic and it has got to weigh at least 400 more lbs than it. I need to see what ya think about the g20. I have heard the engine is actually pretty damn good but numbers don't lie. BOOGIE, KENCHAN, LUKE, AHHH G FORCES, ANYONE ELSE; what do yall boys
think about it and what it can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
is any ride worth putting major money into? a car is not an investment. it is an expense. if you put major money into a hyundai you could end up with a bitching fast car. there are many naturally aspirated g20s out there with not a whole lot of work that still do pretty good. exhaust, header, cai, cams, flywheel, ecu will get you into the 180 HP range. and this should be under 2,500. i think stillen's project g20 went 165 hp at the wheels.
yes, there's not a whole lot of stuff available for nissan engines but the stuff out there is quality. the same cannot be said for a lot of the honda aftermarket world. there are ways to mod your car or turbo it, but you don't have 521, 362 choices like honda people do. however you really can't go wrong with what's available for the nissan world.
if you decide to sell your g keep this in mind.
resale value. resale for any luxury car sucks. infiniti gets hit hardest of the japanese luxuary brands. i've seen 99 g20s listed at 12 to 15gs. these are by dealers. a dealer will offer you less than 10gs for your 99 g. if you sell on the open market you might have to wait a long time. i've seen gs in autotrader and the recycler that have been advertised for over half a year.
the reason why i bought a g and will by another and for you to hang onto it.
handling
reliability
looks
uniqueness
pseudo luxury
a stock g20 will outhandle any japanese sedan out there with the exception of the wrx. my friend preffered my auto g over his manual acura gsr.
the g20 has been rated the most reliable car by consumer REPORT. the g20 and the i30 plant and japan has received accolades from jd power.
the wrx is tied to subaru. those cars can be hit or miss.
the g20 is a clean looking car. even when you drop it, it looks good and not ricey. while it will never be mistaken for a bmw, it will never remind anyone of a bland honda or toyota sedan. the wrx is a truly fugly car. great stats, though i'd relegate it to bootie call status. some of you might be tempted to drop the necessary money to make it yours, but in the end would you really want to wake up every morning to a face like the wrx?
everyone has a freaking honda in the non jdm import world. some people have toyotas. few people mod nissans and infinitis. i've only gone to a few import shows and i've been disgusted with the overkill of honda and the space age/star wars look. but if you go over to japan, hardly anyone mods a honda. it's silvia, evo, and skyline gtr heaven over there.
a g has nice cross over appeal that hondas and toyotas don't have. you can be at a car show and a high falutin event such as a broadway musical in the same car and not feel out of place.
last but not least. if you're in a car accident you want to be in a g. i'm sure hondas hold up structurally and protect the driver and passengers but the outside of the car buckles like an aluminum soda can. those bumpers can barely survive a 5mph impact let alone anything above 15 mph. i can't speak for toyotas.
