Help 2000 GT hard to start & not keeping an idle.
Hi, could someone please help me.
I have a 2000 mustang gt. When I start it, it cranks up and immedialtely dies. I have been priming the fuel pump for a while and that has seemed to work getting it to start properly. And no problems dying when at an idle. But, now that isn't working. I can keep it running as long as I keep my foot on the accelerator. When first starting the car I have to torque brake it to keep it going. Then after driving on the highway it is fine ( no dying problems when I come to a stop). But, if I just drive it in town I dies when I come to a stop. Does anyone have any ideas on what to try? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

sounds like a bad idle air control motor. take it off and clean it out thorougly with carb cleaner. if that doesn't work, get a new one. they're less than 20 bucks. not sure where it's located in a newer stang, but i'm sure somebody here does.

Check every hose connection from you MAF sensor back to your throttle body. If your getting a leak anywhere along the path it will die immediately after starting it and won't hold an idle. My 2000 GT did exactly the same thing due to a hose just coming loose from my cold air intake.

Hi, Thank so much! It was the idle air control motor. But, it cost about $75 from the dealer. My husband installed it. Problem solved. I love the internet! Thanks again. |
