We used rubbing alcohol to remove any wax, road grime, etc... before attaching the door caps. I've had the WW kit on my car for about 4 years now & the two-sided tape hasn't failed me yet.
The weather hasn't made a difference either. From temps as low as -50, all the way up to low 100's I've had no problems.
Oh, and to cover the holes in the body (from removing the stock trim) we used pieces of vinyl - the type used to make stickers - to cover/seal the holes...
