98 SVT Contour

04' 3L DOHC swapped (Taurus)
2.5L SVT cams
2.5L SVT Lower/Upper intake manifold

Future mods are

full MSDS headers/ypipe
NPG CAI
dyno tune

thats it for now. I haven't gotten it tuned or dyno'd. it's quick for a grocery getter.

Are the 19# injectors stock on that motor or an upgrade? If they are an upgrade, are you running them without a tune?

Are the 19# injectors stock on that motor or an upgrade? If they are an upgrade, are you running them without a tune?stock for SVT. not really a mod but I listed them anyways, i need to get it tuned reguardless. with headers/ypipe/full exhaust I should be around 210whp/205wtq, right now I'm probably in the low 190whp/190wtq (what 99% of ported 3L swaps dyno). the stock 2.5 I had dynoed 167whp/156wtq... until i threw the rod out of the backside of the block. it might not be a ton of power but in a 2800lbs car its fun!

Might have a bent conrod, happened to a friends car and Mazda just gave him a new motor. Dropped it off today, should be giving me a call back tomorrow.

Do they not have forged rods? Or they supposedly do? On my motor everything is forged but the pistons, and guess what everyone always pops...you guessed it! Piston ringlands! Haha

Everyone originally said they were forged, then a few very respected engine builders in the Mazda community started pulling apart the motors. The conrods aren't forged, they just have what someone called a "forged coating". Just wonderful. Dealership just called, and they want me to come over with all my oil change receipts.

The tech and the SM seem to think I have enough proof of maintenance to get the issue covered. Its something that they have had popping up in the CX7s in the area so we may have something. If warranty covers it, then I'm getting at the minimum a new short block. The tech said with what little looking they've done, the engine looks good, doesn't look to beat up or anything so we should be safe there. There was a little concern with the mileage for the age of the car, but other than that, I may be getting it all done warrantied. Fingers crossed.

The bent Conrod is my assumption. We are still waiting on a full diagnosis. I kept trying to tell the guy I knew cars and understood what he was talking about but he kept trying to just say "its complicated and has to do with the shape of the piston". I was like...what, is it shaped like a cube instead of a cylinder?

-The Stig-
03-06-2010, 04:17 AM
yes, but how do you know it's bent? did they tear down the motor to inspect it? Or do they just look at the motor sitting in the car and go "Yep."?

I guess i'm missing something??

Nope, not missing anything. According to the tech, Mazda wont actually let the dealerships do that. For Mazda (along with the likes of Honda, Toyota, Nissan and their respective up level brands), it is cheaper just to say "yep, there is something with the internals, we can tell by the sound, replace the motor. So we wont actually know what is up with it. Sounds weird, I know, but that's the way they do it. *Shrug*.

I talked to the tech, though, and he said that if Mazda doesn't want the motor back, my buddy with the wrecked Speed3 and I are gonna take it and rip it down, if nothing more than we think it would be fun.

I finally got the car back on the ground!

It's still not quite done. I need to take it down to the dealer to have it aligned and some other odds and ends. All that work and it didn't quite lower it as much as I'd like but it's better than it was.

Nice! Now get some injectors and a tune!

Yeah I will eventually. For the time being I am going to run 12-14psi with a hotwired 255lph fp. Once I find a deal on some 450 or 550 injectors I'll throw in a SAFC so I can finally start boosting upwards of 20psi. With stock fuel I'd like to take it to the KC track this summer and shoot for a ~113+ trap which should definitely be attainable...assuming I can find a weekend to get there as I work quite a bit now. Come to think of it, I'm at work right now. :D

Make sure and post up pics when you get everything on. It should look good.

Eventually, after getting injectors/tune I'm hoping to hit around 117-119mph or around there. Kind of hard to say exactly though. Really I am buying these to make a fun street car...not so much to get numbers, though I wouldn't mind seeing some.

good news!! i thought my rings were bad

still have compression.

turbo is..."blown", possibly because it was getting too much oil pressure and it was pushing oil out of the seals, no shaft play. Just the result of a funky oil return/feed setup.

There was even oil coming out of the BPV... it was EVERYWHERE

goal is fixed by the weekend and maybe a bigger better turbo...

Had the resonators cut off the other day, so post secondary cat I'm running straight three inch pipe, no mufflers. Might have the exhaust shop cut and angle the tip a bit for a touch of aesthetic. Car sound beastly with no resonators, just as loud as another Speed3 with the CPe catted DP same catback I have. The best explanation someone gave me is that it isn't as loud, but as the same sorta deep Supra burble (faster than a Subaru sound) at idle and low revs, and wide open just sounds, and I quote, "dirty nasty in a good way."

I should get a really nice sound once we finally get this downpipe on. I'll try to get some video of it this week. I don't think I really got any more power out of it, but I can tell the car boosts a bit quicker, I was able to spin 'em through third rolling into it, and normally I can't do that. The general hope was to get the DP on this weekend, but we've exhausted all our tricks on the primary O2 and it just wont come out. Do to friendly hook ups, we'll be taking the car to Dynosaur performance, who normally works on 1000+whp Supras and Vipers, to see if they have any tricks short of cutting it out. I'll be working out the details when I take the Speed in to have them dyno it.

My suggestion is to use them on the rears only. Don't know why, but the idea just popped in the ol' noggin and I was like "yeah brah".

I feel like your front bumper needs a chin spoiler just to give it that little extra. Kind of like the job Torched did for his Ion. I think it would just make it that much more aggressive and stylish. If it is at all possible to do, I think it would work.

The GTC looks amazing with your choice of wheels BTW. :)

Thanks man. It's a far cry from when you first saw it. LOL

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's odd, the track on the front and the back in the same. The wheels line up front to back perfect. For some reason though, the rears look like they sit in further.

I'm going to mock up some spacers and try and find what size to use. The rears are sitting 3/4s of an inch inside the wheel wells. That comes to roughly 19mm.

As for the front, I've got an idea for that. I want to make some brake cooling ducts for the front brakes.

I like the wheels! Our old Golf had those in gunmetal and I really liked them.

Civ, Thanks for the HD lip love!

Thanks. I think they look great. I kind of wish I had gotten wider wheels though.
