How many notes do songs have to have in common in order for them to be considered plagiarism?
MagicRat
03-12-2010, 09:59 AM
I don't think its number of notes, but more the size of the defendant's bank account. :)

Greedy lawyers.
(I agree. In the MAW story, the guy that wrote "Kookaburra" has been dead for more than 20 years. Give it a rest. And in the Beatles story, they used basically 3 notes? Come on.)

All musicians have influences. Often, they will proudly state their influences to anyone who will listen. Lots of early Beatles sounds like Buddy Holly, and they, especially Lennon ripped-off Bob Dylan repeatedly.
So, where does 'influence' stop and plagarism start? I think it is strictly financial.
, they used basically 3 notes?
All I’ve got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth (http://lyricalwisdom.wordpress.com/2006/09/16/all-ive-got-is-a-red-guitar-three-chords-and-the-truth/)

A few years ago, a study was done which showed that people in general became happier as they earned more money,.... up to $53,000 per year. Beyond that, additional income did not necessarily bring additional happiness. Other factors became more important.
