Debt to GDP (Gross Domestic Product) ratio.

This is a vital measure of the ability for any nation to service debt, but the mass media virtually ignores this particular issue.

That's like saying it's ok to have 80000 in credit card debt because you make 100k per year. It's a slippery slope that should be avoided.

(Yes, that's the first thing that came to mind)

If that credit card was being used to buy useful stuff, such as equipment and supplies to run a business, then its fine. Because one would be using the credit to invest in stuff to make you much more money than just the interest expense.

So, if the feds borrow to build useful infrastructure or promote industry, that's great, because the increased future tax revenues will outweigh the interest expense.

But if the feds spend borrowed money on porkbarrel bullsh*t, then obviously that's bad........ just like when my 'significant other' spent $2k on on the credit card to buy underwear..... and no, it was not THAT kind of underwear :(

(Insert porkbarrel joke here: )

Whoa, :shakehead You are kidding me!!! :)

So...... what are you going to tell your grandchildren (or future generations) that their life sucks because the greedy people of the 21st century used them all up? :runaround:

("I'm sorry, children, that you are freezing in the dark, but some misguided people living in the past thought it was their god-given right to consume everything in sight and leave nothing for you :(...................... No, dear, greed and gluttony IS un-christian............") :)

The lie of the left:
"If we use our natural resources we will deplete them and never have them again"

Water won't be depleted, it goes in cycles from rivers, lakes and the sea to evaporating in the clouds to rain. Only temporarily are there droughts, but even then I have yet to hear of any city or province that has people die because their town ran out of water!

Trees are cut down and used for a great many things, but guess what?
We plant more trees and they are replenished!

My word:

duped (by the left):lol2:

Haven't we been through this before? You write these things just to get me going, right? :)

If renewable resources are used beyond their capacity (water, trees, agricultural land etc), they are depleted.

Here is one example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogallala_Aquifer

Even resources that appear solid and unyeilding, like agricultural land can be rendered useless.

http://dieoff.org/page40.htm

Resources like crude oil, coal and natural gas are irreplaceable, in the forms and quantities that people are using them. It will take hundreds to millions of years before they are replenished in economically viable quantities.

http://www.redorbit.com/news/science/1594776/reckless_consumption_depleting_earths_natural_reso urces/

I know you've seen this one before:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil

And some resources, like all minerals are utterly finite. When they are gone, that's it!

There is plenty of evidence of this depletion already. Many commodities these days are much more expensive now than in the past, due to demand that outstrips supply. These include gold, oil and potash (used for making the fertilizers that feed 50% of the planets population.) As the supply drops, the price goes up and we all are forced to consume less.

So, like it or not, if we do not curb our own consumption, the earth will do so for us, regardless of our politics.

My word: Ignorance (of basic scientific principles and the nature of our planet and the universe) :)
