That's right ladies it's that time again... AF DSM Meet time!!! Since I was the only person that went to BOTH (:smooch:) meets, I have decided to host it here in Chicago this year. It seems to be a pretty central location for a lot of people and there's always lots to do.

Obviously just like all the other meets, nothing will be set in stone until closer to the meet. However, we should talk about what we want to do/see so we can plan out a little better.

At the South meet we got some dyno time in which was a lot of fun, however takes a long time for cool down, setups, and tuning. I'm not sure of any dynos around here. Route 66 Speedway (1/4 miles track) does have open Test-N-Tune dates so I have to check to see when those are. I would personally rather do that then dyno. What do you think?

I'm pretty sure everyone would be up for camping. At Lake Elmo in Minnesota it was an awesome camp ground. There's a place not really close to the city, but maybe an hour trip called Starved Rock. I've never camped there (and haven't been there in years) but it's a beautiful area with hiking trails, waterfalls, all the nice scenery stuff going on, plus camping. I would like someplace closer to the city so we can go cruising downtown and/or just enjoy the downtown life. What do you guys think? Camping, hotel, don't care? I can't house more than 2 others at my place so not an option (unless someone comes early)

I think the weekend thing would probably work best for all of us again too. Like Thursday through Sunday seems to work for most people. Looking at maybe mid July. Usually good, warm weather here. Any preferences?

Anyone want to do anything else? Paintball? Bars? Downtown stuff?
I want all ideas, thoughts, and who would be 'penciled in' for coming.

I'm just throwing out ideas and I know some members do paintball. We have pretty much everything around here so let me know if anything 'strikes your fancy'

As for being in the city... it will be out-side in the suburbs. Should we decide to go downtown, we can always store the cars by my place and take the trains/bus to where ever. We've got great public trans so getting around is no big deal and MUCH cheaper than driving around down there and parking. The only time you guys would be driving through the city (if we didn't cruise it) would be for you guys coming from North/East. 90/94 goes right into the city and changes onto 55 and causes some heavy traffic sometimes. Great view though. Other than that it's no biggy.

Here to South Carolina = 800miles / 12hrs
Here to Minnesota = 400miles / 6hrs

I was afraid of the same. Hell when I went to SC I literally met up with Jason and strapped the car on the dyno.

And when I went to MN, the car was just finished with the turbo conversion. Any little noise or anything I freaked out. Just take it chill and when you fill up on gas, pop the hood and make sure everything is good. Allow for a little cool down... everything's fine then. You'll be fine.

If you're MapQuesting, a good zip code to go by would be 60638

Hell fuckin yeah Stevie!

I'm in for sure, and I'm pretty excited for it. I'm definately down to camp too, wouldnt have it any other way. As for the other things I think bar hopping is a necessity, but I'd really like to go paintballing too... I've never done it before. I know something else we should do... pizza rug orgy!

Bout 400 miles for me... That's only like a 6 hour drive. I'm in for sure this time now that I'm established in this new job. I've already got 3 weeks of paid vacation too. lol... Gonna use bout 2 weeks sometime this spring for Florida, but then I'll save some time for Chicago for sure. Might not be sportin the Talon, but at least I'll make it out there... (Unless some miracle happens and its running with no problems by then. lol)

Any ideas on the date yet? Bout the same time I was gonna be coming up there anyways Dave?

I'm in for some paintballing. I'll get my bro's old gear and bring it up with me. I loved the setup on his gun. The bar's... I'll hit em up with you guys if you want, but I'm only gonna have a few beers. I don't wanna get totally wasted in an unfamiliar state again. It's hard enough finding your way home sober. lol

Camping is cool too. Whatever you guys have planned. But one thing is for sure... I will be taking a bite out of that pizza carpet at some point. The pizza carpet virginity will be mine!!! lol

Like I said, looking at July. I looked up the racetrack and they don't have the new schedule up for Test And Tune. Last year they had a Friday Night Test And Tune about mid-July so maybe they'll have the same again.

Brian, if you want to come up at any other time that'd be fine with me too. I don't really care. And don't even joke about the Talon running... it's just not funny anymore.

...But one thing is for sure... I will be taking a bite out of that pizza carpet at some point. The pizza carpet virginity will be mine!!! lol
Brian you're too late for that. My buddy passed out on it at a party last summer.

Just cause he passed out drunk doesn't mean he took a bite at it... I'm taking a sober bite out of it. lol

I'm gonna plan to be up there about the same time as this meet so I can actually meet up with some of the other members too. I'll just take like a week off from work and get paid to go party it up with you guys. lol

Damn thats going to be a long drive... Hitting up the track would be awesome, I would be a little nervous about beatting on it that hard from the house. Paintball also sounds like fun, been playing some this week actually. Im still not 21 so the bars aren't really an option for me yet. Also camping would be awesome.

That was my couch/futon. Comfy wasn't it. Have had some good times on that couch. Hey you could have slept on the floor if you wanted to.

If we need a pic we can just use a screen cap of the movie "The Girl Next Door" since Jay and the main character could be twins.

Oh FYI, if we do decide to go ballin, the places here all have equipment rental so if you don't have or don't want to bring equipment they have everything. There's a place literally down the block from the track that I've never been to but is supposed to be pretty big and nice.

When the hell did that happen? CTA, Metra, they suck!

I haven't been to work or home on time for 3 straight weeks, 2 of which were "light" holiday travel. :grinno:

My 2 cents, I don't know if I'd wanna drive all the way up here during the hot & humid days with a turbo an dthen pound it down the track. :2cents:

As long as there's 2 fans you're fine. We learned that the hard way at the Minnesota meet. One fan is not enough. And like I said, I drove 800+ miles (non-turbo though) nonstop and put her right on the dyno.

As for the CTA... I take it everyday to work, a bus and 2 trains; orange and green line. Metra never been on so can't speak for it, but CTA has been ok for me. There was that one Friday after XMas when my buddy (taking the same route) took 2hr and 45min to get it. I just called off.

But, when you're up on the Northside drinking, the CTA has only failed me once going from there to Midway area. And it was my fault because I got the last Brown line train for the night and then got off in the loop to pee, and for some reason there were no more orange lines. I crashed at my g/f place in the South Loop.

Been checking out the drag strip here for this seasons Test & Tune and they finally say April 18, 2009 - September 12, 2009, but doesn't break it down for each day they have it.

I'm going to start looking into camp grounds since I have to book a flight to FL for May so getting all my vacation crap out the way. I'm going to get prices for mid/late July and see what we got.

Nice. I could score Cubs tix from work so that may work out. Plus TONS of bars up in the area. Though parking is a pain if we drive. Public trans all over the place though. Sox tickets aren't too expensive neither I don't think. I'm not a huge baseball fan (if one at all) but I'd be up for that for sure.

Track days are STILL not listed which is sucking ass. Almost ready to call them and see what the deal is.

If we did decide on going to a game, then I would need an EXACT head count a good couple weeks before the meet so I can get tickets. Wrigley Field is a great place to watch a game, and I'd try to get the best tickets available. Would be a good time.

Blackcrow64

Last time I went to a baseball game it was the Baltimore Orioles vs Cleveland Indians... And my friend and I ended up on the big screen for about 5 minutes dancing for the entire stadium. That was sober too. Who knows what I would do if I was drunk. lol

Like I said I would try to get tickets through work first. There are home games the very last week in July, Thursday through Sunday IIRC so we have a pick of days. I'm going to talk with my 'ticket holder' at work and try to get as many as possible when it starts coming up alittle closer to the date. Should that fail though, I would have to buy the tickets and CUBS games are generally sold out long in advance these days (especially since they were in the World Series last year)

I'll watch the video at home. You're not missing much without White Castle. They're known for little burgers called Sliders... basically the best form of a laxative that you can buy in "food" form. But you can get a case of 30 or something for like $15 (close?). They do however have awesome Chicken Rings and Cheese Sticks.

Beer an hour, pfft, that's why I buy by the 30 case. :thinkerg:

But yes, White Castles earn their reputation well for being nicknamed "Sliders".

And the motz sticks ARE to die for. Almost as good as Arby's.

EDIT-Actual funny story, I woke up one morning on my deck after a long hard night "divorce therapy" (therapy is best controlled in incriments of 12 ounces).

So as I'm trying to remember what the hell happened and why I was outside, I asked, maybe I should eat, or did I ?, then burp and subsequent back door gas released and I said, no need to bother, guess I had sliders. :lol2:
