Great stuff guys, this thread is very inspiring. For me, sketches are more worth than a finished rendering.
This is a practise I did a few weeks ago: I drew cars that I could imagine from my mind, without any references. I failed on a few, but others went quite well. I can really recommend that, its a fun and very interesting challenge.

Knight--nice one, has a designer/concept art look to it.
Was doodling a bit the other night and thought I post a couple of pages.
On this first one was playing around with proportions and viewing angles.
http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z130/Darkblip/Artwork/CAR-toons/Nov08Doodles01.jpg
Changed things up after the top row and worked on what I consider my
weakest area, drawing a toon with a strong side profile view.
I tend to screw up this view too easily ...

Thanks--these were fun to do, probably because I had no reason to do them.
Just some doodling craziness.
Knight--the first sheet was focused on trying more toony proportions/perspectives.
The wheel/tire ellipses on that coupe just wouldn't work right, took may tries.
That's why there a stand alone wheel beside it,
had to box a practice one first before redrawing it on the toon.
Just some doodling craziness.

Yeah and drawing sheets full of ellipses one after the other just helps so much! You got them nice in shape finally.

I know no one posted here for along time but I like this threat and found a quick sketch I did during my german lesson ;). It took me perhaps an hour to complete it. The car in the front is completely out of perspective but i painted the out lines with a biro and had no chance to correct it. http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3627/1042239ia2.jpg

Very cool, me thinks that be one very twisted, big winged Daytona.

Okay, finally scanned these doodles. Used a ref article about stock car racing at the
old Riverside road course track for the first set and a book on racing in the 60's for the second one.
Played around with lots of differing viewing angles/perspectives and levels of exaggeration/proportions.
This was my favorite era of stock car racing, after which I lost interest in the kind of racing.
These were drawn over several days, not sure if I'll take any to a finished digital version.
