Has any of our posters any information on 11R and its current state of health / condition.
I would like to get as much on the car before deciding if it is worth a treck over to take a closer look.
Naturally I am contacting all usual sources inc MCL (well all sources known to me anyway}.
Santa did not leave me a megga millon pound cheque for christmas but he did leave me some details of an offer I am seriously considering, not quite a one I could not refuse yet though.
 :naughty:
Wonder if they would throw in 11R as part of the deal? :shakehead :disappoin

As far as I know it's still an LM look-a-like and in good health - at least it looks better than my 4th pic (but not as good as the first 3....:) )

Interesting, the picture of the AMG CLK test mule, I always thought that they had used chassis 07R for that experiment? Anyway was it not severely damaged in a front end shunt in to a barrier during testing?
If it is 11R that was used and crashed then that may explain why there has been little interest in anyone aquiring it.
Would you buy a stuffed F1 that had been butchered by AMG then bodged back together?
Granted Mclaren are supposed to have rebuilt it but all that butchery can't have done it's chassis integrity any good.
Wonder if it still has the GTR engine fitted.
No doubt my enquiries at MCL will bring forth answers, assuming they take me seriously.

That was a long standing theory as one time when #07R was advertised for sale the ad claimed that it had been used for such purposes. More recent info has proven that it was indeed #11R which did the deed.

If McLaren has since had their hands in the car and given it a clean bill of health I wouldn't let it concern me too much. In fact I think it's a pretty interesting piece of history because of the AMG connection. I also think that what AMG did to the car was not all that intrusive and I don't see any remaining signs of butchering.
Wonder if it still has the GTR engine fitted.
It does indeed. Reference the most recent photos of the car - it appears to be in great condition really, although photos can sometimes hide certain issues.

I think GTRs, even the ones converted for road use, are just a tough sell. There's not much you can do with them yet unless you have easy access to some free time at private tracks. The ones converted for road use are able to do that, but a lot of people would be less interested in having one of them over a standard road car I think. I'd love to have a GTR myself, but the purchase would occur after I had an F1 in the garage already.
A GTR with a very successful history might be an easier sell, but also command a higher price. I think once the GTRs are old enough to qualify for various vintage events they will be more sought after.

Many thanks Peloton,
I have contacted the seller and also Mclaren.
Although it has been rebuilt by Mclaren having been rebuilt must effect its value to some extent.
Owning an ex racer is no roblem I have used various ex track cars on the public roads over the years, just need to be aware of the different driving characteristics required. Mind saying that the track cars then were closer to road going GT's than this beast.
Anyway I should have some information sometime next week.
If your'e right then I had better grab me a GTR soon before the historic racing boys (of which I used to be one before I was priced out) get interested and prices soar.
Have not got a price from them yet so at the moment it is just an inquiry but if things go right with my planned semi-retirement I may yet fulfill a 15 year ambition.
Anyway I have contacted our own GTR wielding guru, Mr Bridger for his insight.
My other concern over this particular car is that Our Mr Bridger lives within 150 miles of myself and so we would have 2 papaya GTR's virtualy in adjoining counties.
Once again thanks and will keep you posted.

I agree about the colour, not sure about using your garage though, besides I don't know how far away you are?
If I can get it cheap enough may consider returning it to its original livery.
But it would be a borderline purchase anyway as seen as the running costs and maintenance are so high. Would be better off saving the repaint for enjoying it.

Think of it this way: Ferrari pieced together many race cars from the 1950s thru the 1960s, either officially or the work was done by restoration/racing shops and the values of the cars have since soared. You might be right to be wary if we were talking about the value and integrity of a Porsche 911. But I think a McLaren GTR will hold its value regardless of its history. And the link to the AMG program only makes this car more unique and valuable. I think you'd be right to buy one now. Their place in time and history has yet be fully realized.

Well Mclaren are digging through their records for me so just have to wait.
They did say however that it was permenantly on sale and saddened that it has not found an owner. Still no joy getting a price out of Autohandel.
Any sugestions on a possible colour scheme, if I can run to it? Would love a Gulf liveried one but as it never wore that I would feel uneasy about that option. Quite fancy Roman Purple or Electric Blue, but then the Blue has been done. Maybe am getting to ahead of myself a lot could go wrong yet.

Hello,
waouhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I wish you to buy a F1, you will realize a dream ! Many cannot do this.
It's totally amazing.
I have two questions : if you buy it, the car will be brought in UK on a truck ?
The other question comes after your post :

I have asked autohandel if the car is able to be driven back to the UK. Depends if I could get it registered for the drive back or even insured. Am having no luck finding an insurer who will give a quote they just keep saying they don't cover those type of cars, even the one I had my Aston, Chevron & lola insured with wont touch it. However am not sure if that would be a good way to learn about the car, something of a steep learning curve. Am tying not to get my hopes up to high yet in case it all goes wrong. I am sure a meeting of at least 2 GTR's could be arranged, shame they are the same colour lol. May even tempt Flemke out of hiding. Wonder if getting on and off a ferry would be tricky with the low ground clearence?

For the ground clearance, I remember pics of #020 taking the Shuttle, so it's possible :)
For insurance, the father of a friend who owns several Ferrari has talked me about LDA a french high-end insurance. And I have some friends who work in insurance and can make fast quotes. They are based in France, I don't know if it is a problem.
Finally, for your idea of a F1 meeting, I totally agree and I hope F1 nuts here could come. It keeps this eventual event private :)

An insurance broker should be able to help you. In the US there is Acordia. Try contacting them for a UK counterpart. Although they might insure you all the way from the US. Hagerty is another company in the US.
Also, try finding out from dealers who insures high-end Ferraris, eg. Enzos,as well as antiques. Also, car clubs that allow you to drive exotics should have similar insurance cover. There is also a concept of "self-insurance" where you put up a bond and pay a percentage of the price of the insured object...
Finally, who insures museum paintings, football players' legs, maritime cargo, etc.? Could you not take out a similar "umbrella" policy?
Best of luck. And if you buy it, take a day to get used to it and then drive it back. It would be a crime not to. Just get a friend to follow in a (reasonably fast) car. Chunnel train has low speed humps at the approaches as well as bypasses.

Well it is currently In Germany, as to whether it is road legal in that couintry I am not able to say as I'm still waiting for word back from the seller. Don't even know if it has been registered.
According to their add it has 0 miles which I find very difficult to believe as it was in England for a while after the rebuild before going to Germany.
I'm happy to be corrected on any matters re this car, Peloton, Leman et all.

The car definitely has some miles on it - afterall it competed in the 1996 24Hrs of LeMans and several rounds of the BPR Gloabal GT series.
Of course they may be referring to miles accrued since some conversion or major service, but even still I have a short video of the car being driven by it's previous owner not too long ago. Sounded great too!
Also, when it was displayed at the Copenhagen Motorshow in 2004 (I think) it was wearing a registration plate from Sweden - UAX 806. There's some photos of that in this post (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=3950834&postcount=5).
Whether it is truly road legal or can be driven on the road at this point is a question for someone more familiar with what is required by law in those countries. :)

Does anyone here know or had dealings with Autohandel?
All of my attempts to cantact them (both email and phone) have drawn an almost total blank. All I have had back is an acnowledgement of my interest but that was it?
Do they actually sell any of their cars or is it cover for a private collection?
Although I have yet to realise any funds towards this purchase I am becoming concerned that this car may not actually be for sale or if it is then at a ludicrous price.
In this event does anyone know of any other interesting F1's for sale (am not really interested in a standard one though may consider one with the HDF Kit (even though I know the standard cars will be the more sought after in years to come).
Ideally I would love a roadgoing GTR but I believe there are only about 5 in the world that have been converted.
To those who think this has come out of the blue I had been planning a purchase for soon after 2010, as it is I have decided to move my plans forward due to an increasing deterioration in mobility and want one while I can still get in and out of the damn thing

Do they actually sell any of their cars or is it cover for a private collection?
Although I have yet to realise any funds towards this purchase I am becoming concerned that this car may not actually be for sale or if it is then at a ludicrous price.
Hello carbuilder ;) (we don't know your name ?)
I don't know if I can speak about this ; a day someone contacted me to have informations on this GTR and for a reason I am not aware, he didn't buy this one, so you're maybe right, are the cars really for sale ?
I remember too that at a point, prices were on the website and they talked about 1,000,000€ for the F1 GTR and 1,150,000€ for the CLK-GTR. The CLK price seems to be low, so why the car is not sold ???
In this event does anyone know of any other interesting F1's for sale (am not really interested in a standard one though may consider one with the HDF Kit (even though I know the standard cars will be the more sought after in years to come).
Ideally I would love a roadgoing GTR but I believe there are only about 5 in the world that have been converted.
So, we will help you to find a GTR, I love this game :)
I can't verify for the moment but one seems to be virtually to sell but if informations are correct, it will be in France and this person want this F1 and only this one. I am sorry, I can't say more.
To those who think this has come out of the blue I had been planning a purchase for soon after 2010, as it is I have decided to move my plans forward due to an increasing deterioration in mobility and want one while I can still get in and out of the damn thing
I understand. It must be different but my father has mobility problems too, I know that. IOf you can realize your dreams it's another reason to make it and everybody here are happy for you.
Phil

I know one of the 1995 Gulf cars was converted by Lanzante, then theres Mr. Bridgers 16R, this one 11R and am sure there are 2 others in europe.
Just been asked to sign a confidentiality statement by Mclaren cars Ltd on any information they give me regarding 11R and it's past owners.
Will try Autohandel again tomorrow.

By my count it's the following:
06R
07R
10R
11R
12R
13R
15R
16R
Which makes 8.
That list was compiled with help from Erik, 12R and 13R are marked as "road legal" and "road registered" in the UK, not converted.
EDIT: And I wish you the very best of luck, it would be great to see another enthusiast own one of these brilliant cars.

To expand a little on the list that Sauc3 provided:
06R - wears UK reg plate "P440 CPJ" - claims and photos of a conversion to "full SVA compliant spec" made by the STW-harnesses (http://www.stw-harnesses.co.uk/index_007.htm) website.
07R - formerly wore UK reg plate "16 LK" and also spotted wearing "4 EB". Previous ads have suggested this car has been converted for road use.
10R - wears UK reg plate "K40 MCL". Solid claims of a road conversion done by McLaren.
11R - wore Swedish reg plate "UAX 806" in 2004. No solid info on conversion status.
12R - spotted several times wearing UK reg plate "N753 HRV" in the late '90s and early on in this decade as well. Has had at least two owners since then. No solid info on conversion status.
13R - spotted recently in the UK on the road wearing an "N??? ???" reg plate. Was also seen in a short video at Buntingthorpe wearing a UK style reg plate that read "M1 GTR". Unclear on any conversion work having been completed.
15R - the Papaya-colored GTR believed by myself and others to be #15R has been seen wearing UK reg plate "M66 MCL". Unsure on any conversion work, but it seems likely.
16R - wore UK reg plate "N1 GPR" and "N276 JBK" while in the hands of Ray Bellm. Earlier for sale ads claimed it to be 1 of 4 GTRs converted for road use by McLaren. Now wears "M700 BHP" UK reg plate.
Two additions to his list - neither confirmed really:
08R - a papaya-colored GTR believed to be this chassis has been photographed in Bahrain. No license plates were seen in the photos though.
27R - spotted at 2005 Goodwood FOS wearing UK reg plate "CIA 4" which may have been a fake. A claim that the car was "now equipped to road specification" was made on the plaque displayed with the car.
= = = = = =
carbuilder - I have a friend in Germany with a direct connection to someone at KS-Autohandel. If you'd like to send me a PM with your contact info I can certainly pass it along to them through him. I can't guarantee it will produce better results than what you have gotten so far, but I will be glad to make any effort to help. I don't charge for my services either. ;)

Although not a great lover of the 97 Longtail version I am making enquiries on the cost of converting one of those for road use. Mind I suspect they will be less usable than the short tail GTR due to the extended overhangs and even greater degree of race focus.
Am thinking of the one currently at Taylor & Crawley going to contact them today for more information.
Don't get to excited as I said am not a great lover of this style Mac. more a last resort, to be honest I doubt I could afford to buy a car then get it converted and as GTR's are few and far between am getting very worried that it may take a long time to find one if 11R falls flat.

Erik and Jota, great work :)
15R - the Papaya-colored GTR believed by myself and others to be #15R has been seen wearing UK reg plate "M66 MCL". Unsure on any conversion work, but it seems likely.
Hmm, it interesting me since I had some informations on this car not verified at this point. In the UK recap, the GTR spotted in Monaco is stated as #14R. I would like to know more please.
Thanks
Phil

Hello all
Very wierd, for the past few days I've been thinking och posting a question about some photos I have of a papaya orange GTR at Anderstop raceway in Sweden... you dont see many Mclarens in Sweden and yet alone a GTR in LM clothing. Here some photos that, after reading this thread, have to be 11R. I'm 100% they are taken at Anderstorp since I crew up 15min away... they where taken 29th septemer 2005 if the fileinfo is correct... Lucky buggers strapping in for a ride... :banghead: I've got one more at work, I'll post that one tomorrow.. Can't remember where I found them... could be here of course.
Ehh... can't you attach picture here?
Cheers!

Just had the 1st insurance quote !!!!!

£22,500 p annum
Been told I can get it cheaper, their excuse was well it is the higher performance GTR version?
Excuse me but isn't the GTR about 30mph slower due to the extra drag and downforce. lol

Thats why I would rather have the GTR top speed is academic these days of radar traps, spies in the sky etc.
More like a big bike than a car, but more comfortable, well if you discount the noise, am told it is very wearing after about an hour, even with the poser papaya ear defenders on. May look a right pratt but at least you don't go totally deaf just slightly impaired.

On KS Autohandels website (http://www.ks-autohandel.de/Cardetails.aspx?carid=22&brandid=21), the car is still for sale but if you look at this page (http://www.classicdriver.de/de/find/4100_results.asp?&dealerid=11421&lCarID=1711017), (which I came to after visiting this page (http://www.classicdriver.de/upload/classicinside/archive/CIDE2005-20.htm) ) it seems it was sold almost two years ago... Maybe KS Autohandel hasn´t updated their website in a while or do they have it for sale again??

Hi Perra-
Thanks for the translation of the info that Jota had shared. One minor correction is that the GTRs have just one passenger seat to the left of the driver, and not the two found in a standard F1 road car.
Also I can assure you and others that GTR #11R is indeed for sale through KS-Autohandel today. I was assured of that fact this morning from a very reliable source. :)
Emil - those photos are wonderful, but all of them were previously posted here. It is indeed GTR #11R. That occasion was also the one that produced the short video I referred to earlier. I'll try to post it later.

Thanks Peloton,
At least I now know for certain it is still for sale.
Got through today but was asked to call back on Friday so with luck will get a price to play with.
Have been advised that a price of around £800,000 would be about right for the car as it is, this would tend to prove you right that GTR's are less easy to sell.

Hello,
I remember Franck Selldorff told us he paid 1% of the price of the car in insurance, approximatively 7000£. I think it's possible to find a cheaper price.
Good luck carbuilder and thank you very much to allow us to follow a McLaren F1 buy in live :)

Here's the shot I had on my work computer. Most certain been posted before but I'll post anyway.
This is also at Anderstorp, in front of one of the hangars. You can se the top of the control tower the background.
I think the 11R car has been use several times by swedish "Auto motor Sport" at various displays and even a test drive shown on TV some years ago. If I remember correct it was in Italy a very cold morning... long time since I saw that episode. You can see a small "Auto motor sport" note in front winow.

Emil, the pic is taken in Mantorp, you are right about the TV schow on Kanal 5
they drove 11R some were in Italy. The did test some other of Mr. Meissners cars aswell in other episodes, i have all the shows recorded some were.
I dont think Mr. Bryant-Meissners is the owner of the Swedish version of the German carmagazine Auto Motor und Sport, i think he is just a friend of Gunnar Dackewall how was the editor once.

Have finally managed to contact the seller but am bound by a confidentiality agreement, I can say that the price was acceptable and if things go right with the sale of my company I hope to have it by my birthday, nice present.
Am now trying to get time to go and see the car in the carbon so to speak.

I stand corrected!... Mantorp also have a lot of blue buildings. The hangars at anderstorp are alot bigger. Sorry about that. :banghead:

Thanks Peloton.
From all my enquiries it seems to be in excellent condition and fettle, apparently took Mclaren 8 months to rebuild it in 2002, for a cost of approx 1/3 it's value.
I dare not say anything else as the seller requested total discretion. but that info came from another source.
