Thank you guys, nice to see you here Rod.

Well, here I come with more pictures. It is starting to look like a motorbike... :lol2:

Although I painted those pieces there is a lot of work to do with them. I don't like the welds so I have to work with them and also I have to check the shape of the tank and the seat. Talking about the swing arm, I'm starting to have some small problems to allow the chain pass through the hole but I'm solving it, soon I will start with the hole for the rear suspension.

Hope to see your comments. And remember if you found any mistake tell it immediately.

Thank you mates!

I would have liked to make the seat and the airbox removable, but this piece is really delicate, so I will try to do this for the next transformation project (rs cube)

I will have a couple or more of days copying some pieces that actually exists like the wheels and the front suspension, but of course If I see any differences I will modify them.

Hope to show you more soon

Hey Joel,

I'm using parts of the Tamiya's RC211V Valencia version, I know I should use other but this is the closest kit I have
Obviously I have to test the other hole to allow the chain fit correctly (a lot of work)

Hope to post more soon!!

Fantastic progress! Can I ask what primer you are using?
/Joel

Thank you Joel!

Well the paint I'm using isn't a primer it is TS-48. This paint is thin (not as Tamiya's primer which is more thin) but with this colour I can see the areas to polish. Next step will be to find another paint to give the final coat to the pieces in order to give them a little of thickness to equal the areas and also give more smoothness.

This evening I'm planing to find mistakes on the swing arm, try to finish the hole of the rear suspension, and maybe start with the welds. On the chassis I will try to remove the welds to make them better. And if possible I will try to start the system of fixation between swing arm, chassis, and rear suspension.

I hope to post more tomorrow

Well mates, here are a couple of pictures

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton137.jpg

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton138.jpg

I have to give it a coat of paint because it is difficult to see the result, anyway I hope to put images with the coat of paint tomorrow.

Also I have to say that I will start the welds of the frame again so I think I will post the images soon.

Bye!
Roca.

PD: I have to be sure that the suspension can be fitted correctly so I'm not 100% sure if the lowest hole have to be a little more big. (Here is the problem making a thing that exists in the reality because I don't have enough images to do all the things)

Roca46

Thank you geronimo!!

Well as someone asked me for the welds, I decided to put some pictures of what I'm using for the welds.

Well I think that you can obtain the same result with putty ( in fact the blue tube is putty )

Here are the two tubes, one is transparent and is specially for this, and the blue is putty
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton139.jpg

Here is the first example with the transparent.
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton140.jpg

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton142.jpg

And the other of putty
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton141.jpg

I tested both and I prefer the blue tube because the putty is harder than the other and is more easy to get a better result.

Some tests
http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton143.jpg

And now with the KR,

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton144.jpg

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton145.jpg

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton146.jpg

I know they aren't perfect but for me are ok.

I hope you like it!

PS: Tomorrow I will post one picture (the only one I have) of the real swing arm

geronimo77
07-01-2008, 02:02 PM
nice "how to"

once i tried the following:
very thin styren or plastic stripe with a lot of model glue. the glue melts the plastic and with blade you can make the weld patter.
Unfortuantelly my camera is broken so i cannot present any photo but the result was quite good. and it dries to plastic hard.

Roca46
07-02-2008, 11:21 AM
Thank you geronimo, nice idea yours.

I think I won't be able to put more pictures in the next couple of days, now it's time to get the Pitwalk and others books and start to draw with Corel all the geometries.

I think this is one of the most important steps, because if this is wrong all the bike will not fit correctly and I will have a serious problems.

The first step will be take a photo of the swing arm and chassis (mine) at 1:1 (side view) and start to draw the lines of the rear suspension and the important points like the center of the wheel, in this step I think I will have a surprise with the hole of the rear suspension.... but anyway I have to do the things the correct way.

For the front part there isn't big problems because I didn't modified the angle of the hole of the handlebars (don't know if this is the correct word).

Well I won't post pictures but I will post some images of the work with the geometries... maybe.

Bye Bye
Roca.

Thanks for this information.

Thank you denman!

First try to see how are the things and I have been amazed of how the piece fits correctly the original.

The images aren't the model at 1:1 but I done it for a first comparison, just put the piece over the real bike. (The drawings will come later)

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton147.jpg

As you can see I have to modify the hole for the chain, and then we will see how is the hole for the rear suspension (but this is a difficult point that I have to take with a lot of attention)

Bye!

Roca46
07-03-2008, 10:47 AM
Thank you Joel!

I have imagined that there will be more work to do with the frame.

Here is the image

http://www.rocascalemotorcycles.com/Proyectos/Protonkr/proton148.jpg

Some areas must be modified I can tell that there are 3 areas
First: The long and front engine mount also with the reinforcing tube.
Second: The area which mounts the seat cowl
Third: The area where is placed the hole for the swing arm.

The most important is that the angle of the shape of the frame coincides as the one of the real bike, the main shapes are the same.

So I don't know why I didn't done this before, but anyway I suppose I had a lot of work to do only the main shape of those pieces, so now is the moment to see the differences between mine and the real bike to do this the more seemed as possible.

Bye!
Roca.

Hey ALEX GAROLI thank you for the pictures! I have seen them before.

They are from Modulo (if I'm not wrong) and it is 1/12 scale. There is a fabulous work with the body but there are some mistakes on the frame and the swing arm (for example where are the welds?).
They say that this is the late version of the bike, and if it is the end season bike, It should have some differences on the swing arm and the frame.

I read a lot about it and I know that after the Japan GP they tested some new things on the frame etc, also they used a new reinforcement bar on the chassis. But for the swing arm I think that there was at least three versions of swing arm. (Also six for the chassis if I remember correctly).
But I have to say that the body work is fantastic! I think that I should have to improve the tail cowl.

Anyway I'm making the Japan GP Test bike, which this is the one with the best modifications for K.Roberts (I think :lol2: )

I hope to put more pictures in a few hours about the chassis.

Hi Alex,

Thank you for the comments. Well I can do my own decals but the main problem is that they are difficult to cut etc, so if I launch this kit for sale, obviously I will have to contract a company to make the decals, I remember one french company that can do it but this will come later, anyway the first bike will be finished with my decals.

Hey Roca,
this is looking great. I'm waiting for the result.

When I'm making welds on a tank or other stuf I always use some stretched sprue. This I glue on the pieces with tamiya glue. Afterwards I put some Humbrol glue on the welds to make them weak and then I use the back of an scalpel to make the curves.

This works great

ALEX GAROLI
07-09-2008, 01:50 PM
That technique sound good, do you have any images of it?

ketje
07-09-2008, 02:54 PM
no but it is simple.

just heat the sprue and pull on both sides until you have the thickness that you want. Then glue this one the pieces. The rest is as explained above.
I did it to make the welds on my M1. When the pictures are taken I will post them in my thread.

I forgot to respond, sorry. No, just I used the blue tube you saw on page 6 but the secret is move the tube while you are pressing it, in different ways back and front, but with a little of angle and always pressing with the same force to make the weld the same width.

Hi denman2, I use four types of putty, Tamiya Epoxy putty (quick type), Tamiya putty (grey) Vallejo plastic putty (the one of the previous pages with the blue tube) and one which is similar to tamiya putty but more big and more hard.

The tank is very inclined, I don't know why, but I followed the scheme of the real bike.

Well... I will have serious problems with the engine and the chassis. Everything on the side view was okay but I didn't calculated correctly the interior diameter of the chassis (which I don't know because I didn't modified the main structure of the original RC211V chassis). Now the engine fits well to the chassis but there isn't enough space for the wiring of the sensors situated on the cylinder head so I will have to work with it.

Also it was really hard to make sure all the points coincide (4 points will be with screws and 2 will be photoetched or styrene but not sure about it yet, I have to study it)

Now I will add putty in some small areas but it is almost finished (but I can't be sure because there are a lot of tubes etc of the engine so I will say it is finished once all the package engine-radiator-chassis-swing arm are completed). The swing arm needs a little of putty too and the welds again, then I will finish to fit the rear suspension on the lower part of swing arm.

Bye!

I think I said it before... there has been at least two people that helped me a lot in the past, and for sure as I said they will have one for free (If I can finish some day this bike), and also maybe for someone that have followed this thread.

Here are only 3 pictures. It seems that I didn't do anything new but I have been polishing the chassis and the swing arm for 3 days and now it seems that the engine can fit on it easily also I finished the front forks (the lower part), I'm VERY tired of this build (but not bored :) ), now is time to see if all the pieces can fit easily for the people to mount it and this is more difficult than make the pieces. I have to think what system I must use in order to facilitate the construction. Another point that is killing me is what should I do next? Copy the chassis? no! not yet, there are some things that should be checked after to spend 600 or 700g of silicone and this happens to all the pieces I made at the moment.

So you can see, It is a little difficult to plan projects like this but I should concentrate in two aspects: the main structure (Chassis and swing arm) and the suspension, sounds easy but there are as always factors that will intervene on this union.

I don't know when I will update this but I'm not sure, maybe I will spend some days to see which will be my next movement.
