Brake Lights/Dash light problem

My brake lights and my dash lights won't turn on when the headlights are on. The brakes will turn on sometimes during the day. Also, when the headlights are on they will sometimes turn off for a second or two then turn back on. I assume it's a wiring problem. Is there anyway I could get a free wiring diagram or would they even have them in the books? It's a 92.

Haynes manuals sell new for about $20-. There are many sources for used copies (ebay, amazon, etc). Free info maybe available at your local public library, online from library and school websites (need a library card or student ID number). www.autozone.com has free repair guides available with some wiring diagrams.

Do the tailights work? Look for a loose or corroded plug around the steering column. Check for bad ground wires.

On a lot of the Ford style headlight switches, the connector on the back of switch will melt causing a loss of connection. I am assuming the brake lights you are talking about are the tail lights. Check what KimMG has suggested and the headlight switch and connector.

Well the tail lights yes, when I go in reverse the white tail lights in the middle will turn on but that's about it. My blinkers will also work. Thank you for the suggestions, I'll have to try them.

I'm confused. Which lights are having the problems? Back-up lights? Tail lights? Brake lights? Rear turn signals? Rear marker lights? Front marker lights? Front turn signals? Low-beam headlights? High-beam headlights? Dash lights? Dome light?

Have you checked all the fuses? Sems like there are a lot of lights out for one part being bad.
