Citroen does make a good car, cheap too. The Xsara WRC kit car, it's pretty fast, and has unbelieveable handling.

God I hate Trabants!

Turpentine and Kerosene????? Holy shit! You can keep that peice of shit! lol By the way, maybe someone can help me out here. I would like to know how to post a picture in the box beside the message box. The box I'm talking about is the one that has the member name, type of car, where you live, ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, what do you think about Pacers now? :)

The pic is called your avatar. You can change it in your profile, under preferences I think. You have to upload one, and there is a maximum size... I don't remember what it is offhand, but I had to squeeze the Cerbera in mine.

HillbilySailor

No doubt about it. If I had to pick between the two, I'd drive a Pacer with a smile on my face (although I'd HAVE to put a V-8 in it)! lol Thanks for the info on the avatar. Someone else helped me earlier. it's 100 pixels by 100 pixels. Mine barely fit too.

And let me guess, this picture was taken in a museum. I really wouldn't consider that car a piece of automotive history. Oddity maybe, but definately not history! lol Here's a question for you. If you had to pick between that toy and the Trabant, which would you pick? lol :sun:

$250 for starter is practical?

and did you say Dodge Neofff?
but then front wheel drive can't impress me.

07-28-2002, 01:04 AM
WHAAAATTTT???? $250 my ass, I can get one for NZ$50 from one of the many scrapped Mk 2 Golf's.......

So yes it is practical

Also what are the odds of Starters buggeringing up in a new VW??? ZERO for at least 6 or 7 years.

I am guessing when you say that you would never drive a Jap car or German car that you are ruling out Supra, 911 Turbo, Skyline GTR, RX7, M3, M5, MINI Cooper S, MR2 Turbo, AMG Mercs and the JC Cosmo.......Too bad you are really missing out

Come on name a domestic of recent better than any of those cars........Only the Viper and Corvette get close (But still fall short)

Cbass

Yes, but in his mind, a "chevy" is inherently better than any of those cars...

Keep in mind, an import of any kind can't compare in any way to his "chavuuh"

GPrince
07-28-2002, 09:48 AM
I guess I am gauging all front wheel drive baced on the experience I have had with Honda and Toyota. 2 transmissions, 3 water pumps, one starter. and yes the starter cost $250. but I guess if it has the name Honda stamped on it," it must be made of Gold", and even so at the time I liked the car. and oh did I mention the fact the thing would never stay in tune. the story is simalar with a front wheel drive Buick I drove for a while.
and the Toyota Pickup ran fine just a gutless wonder. but then I really tried to do real things with like tow something. and I don't figure 8 mi per gallon is worth it. but I guess within the design parameters of the thing it worked as promised. but then it was rear wheel drive.

I live in the moutainoust Northwest so it may be harder on things than what you are used to.

and Yes I do drive Chevy half ton and it has given me no more problems than the toyota. but don't lack for ability.

AND I just Guess I take Pride in the products made in the land of my birth. the Good ol US of A.
Pride is a good thing.
If your from Japan I can understand taking Pride in the Produts made there too.

people say American Cars are crap. but only after we tryed to copy every one else.
the cars we have stuck to the spirit of our automotive heritage, "are truly great cars."
I wonder why we have turned from ourself. and acknowledge everything else. do we lothe our self so much?

boingo82
07-30-2002, 01:57 PM
Apparently you don't realize this, but about half the "imports" are now made in the good 'ol US of A.

Cbass

It's the same as manufacturers. Every country makes good cars, and every country makes bad cars. You dislike the front drivers, I can agree there. I don't like front drive much at all, the only benefits it has are in bad weather, and an AWD vehicle works much better for that!

Keep in mind, that although it is good to have pride in ones country, the US has never made as good cars as the Germans, and it's not likely they ever will. Not to take anything away from American cars, but the Germans make unbelievably good cars.

So where in the NW are you from? I live in a nice coastal town in BC.

GPrince
08-05-2002, 10:37 AM
Well my close experience with German cars. is the Rabbit and Bug. the Bug is an interesting Concept. Simple in design however limited in capacity and ability, but for the time innovative. The Rabbit, a better overall designs. But still limited. Not to ruffle any feathers, this is my opinion. The Rabbit did not inspire me.
I know someone who has had Mercedes and he liked them. he was particularly impressed with the fuel injuction system. I have no first hand knowledge of them.

as far as where am I from.

Ever hear of Moscow?

Find out a little bit about the new BMW 5 and 7 series, or the MB SL500... the new SL500 is IMO the perfect car... it's got all sorts of fancy new gadgets, like self adjusting suspension, power folding hardtop, 3 different kinds of traction control... handles like a sports car, goes like a muscle car, and rides like a rolls royce...

All this data is derived from Computer Sims

Power plant supercharged .8 l (yes I said point 8 L) 2 cycle radial 3 cylinder.
making 1450 Hp at 11000 rpm and 725 FT/LB of torque at 10000 rpm and still brings in 450 FT/LB of torque at 2000 rpm with Direct cylinder Fuel injection, Fuel being H2 (if we are going to switch to hydrogen we need to capture the imagination of the people). And it has the Octane rating to handle 15 to 1 compression ratio. 2.4 inch stroke with 3 inch bore. The whole engine with supercharger is slightly larger than a coffee can, and would sit under the floorpan along with the 6 speed Lycoming Airshifted Transmission, with Auto and manual mode. some times it's just way to fun to shift. Clutch is Fluid, no disk.

The Chassis mid mounted Power plant, AWD, body, Chassis, suspension and drivetrain, are all made of Carbon Graphite.

82 inch wheelbase
Curbweight a little over 1300 lb.

Quarter mile time just under 6 seconds and toping 235 miles per hour while still in 4th gear.
Fuel economy I figure around 14 mi per gallon.

Cbass
08-07-2002, 05:15 PM
Sounds nice, but I think it would have to be a little bigger than a coffee can if it was a radial with a 2.4" stroke, especially one that has to handle 15:1 SC. That's 15:1 off boost static compression?

I want to see one of those Audi 5 cylinders out of the S cars on hydrogen! It's 2.2 liters, makes 260ftlbs at 1950rpm, and peak power of 230hp at 5800 rpm, with a redline of 7000-8000, depending on application. That's on 92 octane...

BMW recently had an older 7 series on the show car circuit, running on hydrogen. It was a really simple conversion, and it made quite a bit more power than the gas. Not only does have a higher octane rating, it also contains more energy.

There's a good page that has info on a propane swap, and table with info about various fuel types...

So has anyone seen that commercial for the Midas(?) shop, the one where the guy brings in his Yugo for a tuneup?

(yugo driver)"Wow, it's running great!"(looks over at tech in passenger sat) "Let's jump the bridge!"

(tech shrugs shoulders)"Yugo...)

focus. Both are FWD, both are commuter cars, both are reliable

WHoa !!! HAHAHAHAH .. Fuckus reliable ? There are more pages of recalls on the focus than I can shake a stick at.. ! ... sad but true ...

but we are talking about an 'SL' model with DOHC 5 spd and 222 plus hp and over 205 torque with minor mods, I have walked many v6 cameros and mustang's stock

ROFL ! uh... My Tacoma 4x4 has never lost to a V6 Mustang / Camaro either.. some were mod'd. both at the Track and Street.. have videos too... I just wouldn't get too carried away about how amazing that 'SL' is... you slap a turbo on it, and I'm all over it being badass... know what I mean !?

Slow and unreliable? Where do these come from? My mustang's fine at 35k miles, not a single prob to date...hopefully, luck will continue. And mine's fast, so...Maybe we shouldn't count mine, though, since it has too much invested.

.... ROFL ! 35k ? Is that a joke ? :apuke: ..... you need at least 150k before you can say anything about reliability... check the Consumer reviews, watch what you see on the side of the road.. talk to mechanics.. read the reviews... Ford is NOT know for being reliable or even close to it... ehhh

I'm not gonna tell you Toyota, or Honda or whatever, is perfectly reliablie or whatever... but there is a difference... hopefully you never have trouble w/ your Stang.. but judging by the numbers... it could happen...

WHoa !!! HAHAHAHAH .. Fuckus reliable ? There are more pages of recalls on the focus than I can shake a stick at.. ! ... sad but true ...

Recalls don't equate with reliability. Get this, one of the recalls was for a bad A-pillar trim clip! Another was for a Sony subwoofer defect! ALL the recalls were for the first 2 year models, with one being for the SVT Focus (that ONLY affected the first 500 cars, and was fixed before most of them had even been bought!). Recalls mean that the manufacturer found something that MIGHT be a problem and is fixing it. For free. In the old days, these problems might simply be engineered differently in the next revision of the car, and those with older versions had to either suffer or get a newer version. (or pay to update to the newer version, kind of like the chain tensioner and head stud upgrades in Porsche 911s). Many manufacturers simply refuse to admit their cars have problems and either fix them quietly if one comes in for regular service, or ignores it completely. Nissan and Honda are examples of the fpormer, while Mitsubishi and VW are examples of the latter.

I'd rather see a manufactuer that FIXES potential problems that have been identified, rather than ignore REAL poroblems that exist in actual customer cars!!!!

I'm really tired of this ignorant carping about recalls by people that simply have no clue!

Complete BS. If you believe that, I have some lovely waterfront property to sell you in Florida... I've bought a few new Fords. Completely reliable. In fact, they only saw the inside of a service bay on regularly scheduled maintenance intervals.

.... ROFL ! 35k ? Is that a joke ? :apuke: ..... you need at least 150k before you can say anything about reliability... check the Consumer reviews, watch what you see on the side of the road.. talk to mechanics.. read the reviews... Ford is NOT know for being reliable or even close to it... ehhh

Actually, you're quite wrong there. Major indicatoors of quality and reliability show Ford being pretty high (higher than VW, Audi , Subaru, and on par with Toyota. You can look it up).

And MOST people judge reliability on the under 50k mark, as most people trade every three-4 years. After that, how you maintain and drive a car has more to do with it's reliability than manufacturer. But all cars can break, regardless of where they come from. If cars didn't break, then how come auto service is such a HUGE business? And why are there shops dedicated to imports and even specific brands? Please, open your eyes.

I'm not gonna tell you Toyota, or Honda or whatever, is perfectly reliablie or whatever... but there is a difference... hopefully you never have trouble w/ your Stang.. but judging by the numbers... it could happen...

Judging by the fact that there are Honda and Toyota repair specialist shops in large numnbers, I'd say "judging by the numbers, it could happen" applies equally to YOU.

The original Viper color was red. And the original Corvette color was white, I believe. As far as muscle, I think that Japan ,while it does have virtually no high output V-8's, has some badass 6 cylinders(Supra, Skyline GTR,etc). I love domestics.
