Hi joel
First of all, congratulations for the great work you made.
About you using the fishing line, could you tell me how do you attach them in place? Could you show me a zoom pic of that part of work?
Congratulation for the good work once again.

Hi guys. Back from London (without a single kit in my backpack...terrible)
Many, many thanks for your comments, you are very kind!
Miguel: I just drill a hole in the part where the line are to be fitted (after removing the standard fitting of coarse.) I usually drill a .5 mm hole and to fit the .6 mm lines i cut them a bit in the end. On the front brake lines of this build I've added a piece of hexagonal plastic rod that I drilled a hole through and slided on to the line.
I'll try to enlarge the area from one of the origninal photos.
Dave: I just took some hex rod, drilled a hole in it and cut it on one end so that I got it flat through the whole diameter. Then I just glued them in place.

Not that I not intended to...I couldn't find anything else than bloody diecasts...
To todays progress. This kit is closing in on being finished. But I try to keep the slow pace and not rush it.
Here's a picture of the caliper, brake line fitting for you Miguel. Not too good quality but I think you can spot it although it needs some touching up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/joelwideqvist/R1%20tuner/forks_done_closest.jpg
One thing I think lacks on most street racer kits are the tank pads used to prevent the rider from scratching the tank. I made one out of CF decal.
First i made a mask and draw a pattern on free hand.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/joelwideqvist/R1%20tuner/tankpad_mask.jpg
The pattern was cut using X-acto and scissors
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/joelwideqvist/R1%20tuner/tankpad_cut.jpg
And finally applied to the tank.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/joelwideqvist/R1%20tuner/tankpad_done.jpg
I think I'm done with the seat/tank cowlings and attached them to the naked bike. Due to the mufflers the rear end frame is quite wide and it took some work getting the cowl to fit. What's not visible in these pics are the scratch built rear light that I fit underneith the cowl. Doesn't look to good anyway...:screwy:

Here's a better pic showing the seat cowl air intakes with the Studio 27 mesh installed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/joelwideqvist/R1%20tuner/seatcowl_done.jpg
I took a closer image of the right side to show the work on the foot peg and brake canister. You can also see the clutch that has been extended with a piece of solder and hex rod. Solder will be painted black.

Joel, The tank pad is a great touch!
The only part of the bike I'm not sure about is the red chain guard? I'll probably change my mind once it's finished though?
You really motivate me to get building again with these updates!
Thanks

Hi Rob! A little bird whispered in my ear that you're planning an R1 build! I would really love to see that as I think this kit is up for some heavy mods. With your lathe and skills I think you will make one mean bike.
Actually, I think you are right about the chainguard... I've given it a lot of thoughts and I think it should have gone CF... a bit late now unfortunately.
are you going to add some frame sliders??
Yes I am. They will go in the holes where the original cowls would be fitted. I just can't seem to find some 2.5 mm rod...
Now how about getting the lady rider figure for it with c/f bikini's ;-)
Nah, she's a tad bit too much porn for my taste...

Heads up for you planning your own R1 builds.
The fit between the top and lower cowls are very snug and I've fought for two days getting them in place using too much glue ending up destroying parts of the cowl coat. I think I remember having the same problem during my R1 Taira build but this is worse, probably because I've put some mesh inside the lower cowl...
What I've done now is to glue the two cowl parts together and then remove the front wheel to get them mounted. I'll see how this turns out.

I think this is where the story ends. The side cowls just won't fit into the top cowl. I can's find one single place where it touches any of the engine parts and neither the top cowl nor the side ones have got any mods that affects the parts mount. I've tryed super glue, I've tried CA but the force pulling the two appart is just to strong. I know there is no problem with the original kit as I've built the taira version AND dry fitted this build. Hate when this happens and even if I'm really stubborn regarding these sort of things I just can't seem to come up with a solution.

Sorry to hear that Joel, just put it to rest for a while and tackle it again later. Often when I get stuck things seems clearer after a while.
I'm sure you'll come up with a solution if you just give it some time and this build is to good to end up in the scrapyard if you ask me.
Build something OOTB just for fun, why not something completly different? I tend to build Academy's 1/72 planes from time to time when I feel it's time for a break.

Thanks for the support Niclas. I'l let it rest for a while to get the juices flowing again. I think you're right about the ideas popping up when you least expect it. I'll give it a go again in a few days (or tomorrow...) Worst thing though is that the area where the two parts meet are really injured. Tough to touch up metallic paint. But, but, I'll have a go and see how it turns out.

Like Niclas said, put it to rest for a while ;)
And then let us know what was the problem, because that's really weird...

I had a friend look it over and we came to draw some conclusions. It's a nuber of factors, including paint build up, the s27 mesh in the front of the lower cowl and lots of clear on the panels in the top cowl.
As you say Pjesus, I'm too crazy to put it away...I just had to have another go and with some sacrifice of complete line up between the cowls I managed to get it pretty much sorted out. I'll try and touch up the area tomorrow and perhaps give you some pics of what happened.

I appologize for the drama remarks of yesterday. Of coarse I won't quit this. I was almost crying when I saw the nice shine of the cowls slipping through my hands but that happens. It's not just plastic, but close to it.
Todays problem will be the stand. What to do with that issue? Can't use the standard race stand as I chopped one arm off. I've started a few ideas and I'll let you in on them later today to see what you think.
Thanks again for your support. By the way, what are the ideas Willimo./Joel

Yeah, and from what I saw in the pics you can't use a Ducati-like stand either as you can't fit it in the rear hub...
Did you cut the side stand mount?

Hi joel
Sorry about the problems you had.
About the stand, you could use a stand type for Honda NR 750. Of course, i don't know if you had th change anything is rear wheel, but i let here an idea.
keep going the excelent work

No the side stand is there. I'm thinking of just using that one but it is quite risky putting it on that small piece of plastic on the model shelf isn't it?
I've started scratch building a display stand that just holds the rear wheel (I think there is something similar together with the Hayabusa kit?). It's not gonna look real but for display purpose it will be fine.

Scratched built stand looks like crap so I'll go with the side stand. Will just spray the foot pegs and install some Dzuzz fastners and we could soon be off to the completed section.

I can't speak for the side stand on that kit as I have mine on the racing stand, but I do have some bikes on the side stand for years and never had one breaking... ;)

I had in mind glueing it in place with a piece of hex rod to get rid of the ugly looking out of scale screw but that actually broke. Now the screw is in place and I think you're right about the power of that one.
