Does any one here have a hyundi? I think that this would have to be the worse car ever. I mean on paper it might seem like a good car but its a car people drive to look like they have a good car but who are they fooling. Plus it looks terrible done up. Who would want to drive one of these cars? soomeone who thinks they know everything about cars thats who.

Actually, they are cars for people who really don't give a sh!t what other people think, and are getting a good value for their money. Wanna show where in JD Power or anywhere else that modern Hyundais are the worst cars ever?
I'd rather be someone who "thinks" they know about cars than someone like you who actually doesn't.
Of course, I've been buiding race cars, sports cars, and customs out of domestics and imports for 27 years, so what do I know?
How old are you, again?

Hyundai's are cheap, ugly, and cheap. Most of all they're cheap. But if I was cheap and wanted to go slow, i'd buy one cuz they come with a 10 year warranty and I haven't seen many problems with them...other than the door panels falling apart after 2 years...but hey it's cheap what you expect. It's a good value car.

CHEAP!Its funny, they said the same thing about Honda and Toyota when they first came out. Yet Hyundai has taken half the time to reach the point as opposed to those two. But I am curious, you mention cheap. Cheap in what way. Cheap in price, cheap in value, cheap in materials? Cause either way you look at it, the Hyundais come out ahead of the game in those areas when compared to other makes in the same category and values.
As for the original post and poster...Does any one here have a hyundi? I think that this would have to be the worse car ever. This is besides the countless other Hyundai websites out on the net and the millions of Hyundai owners throughout the world. I'll be the first to admit, "I have a Hyundai and I am proud to say so". It has been the most reliable, trouble free vehicle and the only one that I have owned that I can say that. I've had other makes and driven countless more and the Hyundai is by far the best and trouble free. Looks aren't everything and speed isn't either, but to downright say they are the worst car ever, is immature, incorrect and sadly unbecoming of an automotive enthusiasts. As for them looking good on paper only, you are sadly mistaken. Search around and you will see that Hyundai is a company to look out for. With constant awards and customer satisfaction that has left more noticable brands far behind. As for looking terrible done up, that is just a matter of opinion. Not every vehicle and or its style will appeal to everyone. Some like it some don't . I don't like the scions or the hummer but you don't see me knocking/bashing them like the way you just did to Hyundai. A true auto enthusiats doesn't do that. They appreciate the pros and cons of each and every vehicle. So before you go out and voice your opinion on an open forum acting like you know what you are talking about and posting questions and remarks that do not belong in said forums, do yourself the favor and get the facts straight before voicing them or you will make yourself look like a fool.
Then again with answers to questions such as "what is NOS" like this... NOS is also laughing gasand how much does it cost to refill a bottle of Nitrous" you say this...Just go down to your local hospital and ask for a bottle or two of laughing gas or mild anesteic, that would do the trick.what else can we expect from you.

1) not everyone who buys a car is a testosterone addled teenage boy that has to race from stoplight to stoplight.
2) we got an '02 Accent GS as a, yes, cheap economy car for commuting (I have a few custom projects as well as a sports car for fun driving). it's 3 years old. Want to point out where the door panels have fallen apart, or anything else? In fact it's in great shape.
Again, perfect as a second car or as a commuter.

lol, what the hell?? why are you defending yourselves?? i'm 21, not a testosterone filled teenager racing from stoplight to stoplight, i race at the track only, dont come at me like that. To fullfill your curiosity Hyundai's are cheap in value, any car under $20k when new is cheap...thats the idea behind the production of them...cheap economy car for the middle-lower class. To be completely honest I dont care what you drive or its condition, I work in a shop and i've seen quite a few '00 Hyundai's falling apart, just personal experience. Edit: So you're saying that a Hyundai holds its value better than all other makes/models in its class?? Cuz that's a flat out lie.

They are cheap in price that is true, but does that make them cheap overall. Its a matter of opinion. Actually my Hyundai was over the 20K price tag.

I believe you are directing this to Chris, not me. I can't speak for Chris. But just in case it was directed to me as well. Let me say the majority of the posts in this thread were directed to v-tec. I do not see anything wrong with that and I do not believe anyone accused you of putting down Hyundai. It was v-tec that did that.

here are a couple of screenshots for example, I selected a 2001 Santa Fe LX 4WD (fully loaded) and a 2001 Ford Escape XLT 4WD (with matched options) and here are the results...
For the Santa Fe:
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/gopack36/ScreenShot260.jpg
For the Escape:
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/gopack36/ScreenShot259.jpg
The 2001 Escpae with the matched options has slightly lower resale value across the boards and it did cost about $3000 more than the Santa Fe back in 2001. Therefore I would say anyone who bought the Santa Fe in 2001 over the Escape is ahead of the game by $3000.
Here are the resale values for a few years to compare.
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/gopack36/ScreenShot261.jpg
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/gopack36/ScreenShot262.jpg
As you can see, it would seem that the vehicle holds its value better than the leading competitor.
Since 2001 the price of the Santa Fe has gone up and the price of the Escpae has come done. Here is the price list of a 2004 LX compared to a 2005 Escape.
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/gopack36/ScreenShot266.jpg
and the Escape...
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/v124/gopack36/ScreenShot265.jpg
The Escape still costs more. Go figure. So to me it looks like it holds it value better. Mind you this is only on the Santa Fe and may or may not be true on the other Hyundai models.
As for Trade in Value. Show me a mainstream vehicle that is produced that has a "Good Trade in Value" I do not think those exist. Trade-in's typically suck, they always have and always will on anything. True some dealers are better than others but you should never expect to be happy about any trade in value on anything.
So bottom line, to me the value is holding well and in most cases better than the others in its class.

in no way are Hyuandais cheap ugly or slow, yhe thing you people dont get is that they are a sports car for cheeap, my frend drives a '03 tiburon, ive driven that thing and itsthe best car ive ever driven. it has no body roll at all the limited slip differential works like a dream. and hey even with an auto that thing moves.

That thing moves to a mid 16 second 1/4 mile, if you call that quick then thats your opinion, but thats about average for a Buick fullsize, compared to other sports cars in its class its at the bottom. The new Tibi does look sexy though i'll give it that, they just need a faster model.(rumrunner)
Well Ford is a whole different topic, they're worse than Hyundai IMO...I was thinking more along the lines of Toyota/Honda/even Chevy...which could be considered out of its class, i dont really know. But I agree with you that they're good cars, like I said reliable, affordable, best warranty...I would just never own one...other than a turbo Tibi if they ever make one.

Test gear humming, we warmed up the race-car's slick tires and laid down the quickest 0-60-mph time we've ever recorded for a front-drive car at 5.7 sec. Granted, this Tiburon weighs some 473 lb less than the production version, but even with a clutch that we weren't operating properly, this was just the first of many surprises. Next up, we ran the production Tiburon GT V6 down the strip and it, too, made an impressive pass. Glancing at our records, its 7.0-sec time falls between those of the much-admired Acura RSX Type-S (6.7) and the oh-so-popular Toyota Celica GT-S at 7.3 sec.
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0207_shark/
it beets the best of the best in 0-60.
Since we'd previously been to Buttonwillow Raceway with a group of three heavy-hitting sports cars (Aug. '01), we had baseline lap times to compare the Tiburon cars against. From "slowest" to quickest, the lap times of our 1.1-mile course for a 250-hp Porsche Boxster S, a 333-hp BMW M3 coupe and a 385-hp Chevy Corvette Z06 were 1:01.62, 1:00.50, and 0:59.50, respectively. How would the Tiburon twins do?The $19,000 Tiburon GT V6 lapped just 1.5 seconds behind a $57,000 Porsche Boxster S. The racing Tiburon's lap times shamed a mighty Corvette Z06.
http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0207_shark/index1.html
even beat a Z06 on the track. its not a drag car its a street shark.

7.0 sec 0-60 mph time is worse than a Pontiac G6, and the race Tiburon beat a stock Z06 by 1.7 seconds in the laps, not production. Okay so maybe it's not as slow as a Buick but it's still the slowest sport coupe out there (speaking of top models only). The GT-S may have a slower 0-60 but it comes back a second faster in the 1/4. I'm not trying to say it's a bad car, but it's definitely the slowest. I hope they do make a respectably fast Tiburon, it's got everything but the power.

Wow this is a really good thread...im learning alot of new stuff
Now Rumrunner88 I see motortrendsattempt in placing the Tib, but they ran the Rsx type S slow...C&D ran the Type S to 60 in 6.2 making it almost a full second faster than the tib to 60...If you want to compare it I would put it in the with Corolla Xrs which scoots to 60 in 7.1, or the Lancer Ralliart...BUT in my opinion the tib doesn't have enough to be in RSX territory...then again im partial to the rsx and defend my baby
Now, in terms of Hyundai itself I have alot of respect for the quality and effort they put into their cars, and how far they have come in stature in the car world...If I remember right they are the 7th biggest (Hyundai/Kia) car manufacturer in the world, and you dont get to be that high if your cars are terrible...and watch out for the 2006 Hyundai Sonata cause its been given amazing reviews, it looks sharp (and stolen from the Accord) and its gonna do very well in the family sedan market

"IMO" doesn't make it a "fact." THAT'S what got me going. Using opinion to be insulting is the mark of an ignorant fool, and i will continue to return that sentiment in kinds. Funny how people like you want to be able to insult things, but get all pissy if someone insults you in return, as though it's only ok for YOU to be the insulting one.

- Accent GS is far from adequetley fast for me.:2cents:
- Never said opinion was fact, in fact said it was opinion...or that personal experience was universal, but just that, personal experience.:2cents:
- Never got "pissy?", but was cracking up to how you were when I didn't insult you personally and after you said you didn't care????
- I'm far from ignorant, and the only insult I made was slow/ugly imo. Only Hyundai's that arent ugly imo are the new Tibi's and the newest Sonata, which does look much better.:2cents:
- The only ignorant insult was the one made by the guy that started the thread, and you when you started calling names for little to no reason...for someone that doesnt give a shi!t about what other people think about your car, you sure do give a lot of sh!t...odd.
To make it easier for you to understand me i put :2cents: after a personal opinion was made.
oh yeah...refrain from namecalling read the rules.
And personal experience with the one we bought and numerous ones in the SCCA and owned by friends contradicts YOUR experience. So again, your point isn't a"fact" And using it, as you did, to insult a car shows you to be a closed minded little twit.

You never SAID it, but your attitude implied it.

Riiight. Did I said ""I didnt' care?" no, I didn't. For as long as I've been on this and other automotive forms, i've cvared about retarded attitudes likeyours. Whther I'm a moderator or not an any particualr forum, when someone enters a thread being insulting and negative about a car they dont' own, then I will deal with them. You don't have to buy or own a car, but you also don't have to make statments opf opinion that are negative and insulting just to make your opinion known.
- I'm far from ignorant, and the only insult I made was slow/ugly imo. Only Hyundai's that arent ugly imo are the new Tibi's and the newest Sonata, which does look much better.:2cents:
A well rounded and knowledgeable automtive enthusaist doesn't make the stamtnes you do, or defend having the attitude you do. I've dealt with enough people like you over the last few decades of working with cars to know exactly what your attitude implies.

Again, I never said *I* don't give a shit. I explained EXACTLY what I give a shit about on automotive boards. Apparently you missed that in my responses because you're too busy defending being insulting.
To make it easier for you to understand me i put :2cents: after a personal opinion was made.
That'd be like me coming up to you on the street and saying it's my opinion your girlfriend is an ugly dog. the saying "it's just my opinion so you have no right to get mad at me."
Apparently you're too stupid to see that.
oh yeah...refrain from namecalling read the rules.
Namecalling? Sorry, that's just my "opinion" of you. Since you claim it's ok to be negative and insulting if you say it's just your opinion, then I'm in the clear.

seriously though, if hyundai keeps going in the direction its headed now, its going to get to the top5 automakers worldwide in a hurry. they seem to have it figured out and are just behind everyone else.
they are far ahead of what toyota, honda, ect. had 20 or so years after they started making cars
as far as the shittiest cars ever, my vote goes to saturn. i know of 1 (yes 1) that made it past 100k miles and it leaks oil everywhere, spits out trouble codes every other day, and basically takes a dump whenever anyone drives it. they know how to do customer service so people just keep buying them and selling them 4 years later.

uhh they're a long way from top 5, not to mention they're partially owned by daimler chyrsler so I don't think they're gonna wanna compete with themselves. And although Saturns are little plastic chick cars i've seen them last to 300k, i'd have to go w/ Kia's (a Hyundai company) as being the worst...at least the first few years they made them, idk lately.

The comment that Kia/Hyundai might be among the top 5 car makers is not that far fetched. I mean just as BMW appeals to certain individuals with certain budgets in an effective way, so too does Kia/Hyundai. If you look at what these cars a built for and keep the company's aim in mind, they are doing a fairly good job. Now, I too think that some of the cars they come out with are kinda fugly/ underpowered but they are getting better. I don't own a car from either of these brands, and probably never, will but they are good for what they do.They do have the potential to be a big seller. You also have to keep in mind that if Hyundai builds a "sports car" they do not mean for it to compete against the higher end true sports cars, its suppose to be only a cheaper alternative for those who want a cheaper alternative- just like the S2000's, 350z's, 'Stangs and so forth. People who have Porsche money, generally buy a Porsche, those that don't, generally don't. To end this post thats probably to damn long their is a fairly good, brief, article in Car and Driver mag. July 2005 issue, that sheds a little light on the goals of Kia/Hyundai.

and i thought ford owned most of kia...
but yeah i would bet that hyundai is top5 very soon regardless of who owns them. chrysler can make decisions but i doubt they would hinder the success of something they make money off of.

Kia and Hyundai are basically owned by one massive corporation...I don't think Fords in the picture...but really every car company has a portion of stock in every other car company, just not majority share

Inexpensive with a 10year/100,000 mile warranty! Not much else needs to be said. If something goes wrong in 10years or 100,000 miles then they'll lend you another while they fix it. Point was made that, that's waht was said about Toyota and Honda at first and it was true. Though I think even then Toyota had better reliability in their cars than Hyaundai. For the price though what is a better value, maybe Kia same warranty just don't know about the price difference.

Ford owns some stock in Kia, they had the option to buy controlling however and didn't. As far as I know I believe Hyaundai is owned by Daimler/Chrysler.
