Well, you got it right. Took me about an hour of silence to get it, was drunk and ended up playing around with 9 cigarettes to get it.

My mate got it in a funnier way, he was thinking about it for about 2 weeks, asking me the solution everytime he saw me. Then suddenly he woke up at 4am, and had it. :lol2:

:lol:

I'm gonna do that to everyone I know,
I just tried it on person,
Should've just let her stew on it for a while, but I showed her the solution, after a few wrong guesses and giving up
BTW, whats a goog?

Ok here's one

A guy lives on the 27th floor of his apartment building. Every morning he wakes up to go to work gets in the elevator and goes to the ground floor and goes to work.

When he comes back home he goes up to the 21st floor and then uses the stairs until he gets to the 27th floor.

Why doesn't he just go up to the 27th floor with the elevator

Because he is a midget, can't reach the 27th floor button.

Another name for a drug. Enough said :icon16:

In 1990, a person is 15 years old. In 1995 that same person is 10 years old.
How is this possible?

I find riddles are more thinking logically, like the billiard balls one, the reason most people can't get it right away because they think of the more complicated answers.

Nope, on the right track though.

and 0 can be considered a digit, but with only 2 digits, why would you want to use a zero? Think back to year 8-10 maths class when you get the answer, its one of those things like, why didn't I get that earlier?

Now thats over thinking.

Think numbers which can be shortened to 2 digits (and a decimal is considered a digit)

Two planes take off at the same exact moment. They are flying across the Atlantic. One leaves New York and is flying to Paris at 500 miles per hour. The other leaves Paris and is flying to New York at only 450 miles per hour ( because of a strong head wind ). Which one will be closer to Paris when they meet?

edit: and another:
Because cigars cannot be entirely smoked, a hobo who collects cigar butts can make a cigar to smoke out of every 5 butts that he finds. Today, he has collected 25 cigar butts. How many cigars will he be able to smoke?

I'd say the same distance.

Yeah, they would have to be when they meet (unless of course they crashed, then the one leaving paris would probably end up closer :icon16:)

Any takers on the hobo?

Edit, found another one that got me thinking:

A woman goes into a hardware store to buy something for her house. When asked the price, the clerk replies, "the price of one is twelve cents, the price of forty-four is twenty-four cents, and the price a hundred and forty-four is thirty-six cents. What does the woman want to buy?

4 and 4 fifths.

Nope. He needs 5 to make a cigar, so what I thought at first was, he could make 5 cigars with 25 buts, but then what about his left overs from the 5 cigars he just made? he can make 6 cigars :icon16:

thats why they teach you in class anything over 10 must be in numeric form.

the price of one is---------- twelve cents
the price of forty-four is--------- twenty-four cents
the price a hundred and forty-four is-------- thirty-six cents

1=12
44=24
144 = 36

12+24=36

sooooooo..........144 = house numbers or something like that from a hardware store.

RallyRaider

Ohh wait, I just gave it away :uhoh:

Nope, answer is four and four fifths (4.8), that "he be able to smoke", "because cigars cannot be entirely smoked".

First he makes 5 from the 25 butts, but he can only smoke four fifths of them, so that is four smoked. From the remainder he can make a sixth cigar but he can only smoke four fifths of that as well. So add the two together and he has smoked 4.8 with one but left over.

Now if the question was "How many cigars will he be able to make?" then yes, the answer would be six.

Jonno
05-20-2005, 04:18 AM

Well, don't really understand what you are getting at, but it means the number one is 12 cents. number forty four, which is 2 numbers is 24 cents, and like wise with one hundred and forty four.

So really what it means is each number is 12 cents each.

]

When they meet... they will be at the same exact spot! Therefore, they are both the same distance away from Paris.

From a movie I saw this weekend... had to think about it for a while to get it right.

You have 2 buckets.
Bucket 1 can hold 3 gallons.
Bucket 2 can hold 5 gallons.
You need to get exactly 4 gallons of water for some reason or another (bomb explodes, whatever) how do you come to having 4 gallons of water?

fill bucket 2 twice, you have 10 gallons, then take 2 of bucket 1 from the 10 gallons. hence for gallons. (10-6=4)

Cackster... you are close... however...

Clarification... you only have these 2 buckets... nothing else... so you can't put the 4 gallons anywhere else... they must be within the buckets

Fill the 5 gallon up then using the 5 gallon fill up the 3 gallon. You now have 2 gallons in the 5 gallon bucket.
Empty the 3 gallon bucket and pour the 2 gallons from the 5 gallon bucket into it.
Then fill the 5 gallon up and pour as much as possible(1 gallon) into the 3 gallon and now you have 4 gallons in the 5 gallon bucket

I don't remember if this is how they did it in the movie but.......

fill bucket 1
pour bucket 1 in 2

fill bucket 1 again and fill the rest of bucket 2
leaving 1 gallon in bucket 1

dump bucket 2
pour bucket 1 in the empty bucket 2 (1 gallon)

fill bucket 1 (3 gallons)
pour bucket 1 in 2

now you have 4 gallons.....:uhoh:
