All have made valid points. But IMO, religion has no place in politics. I've always considered the fact that the statement "freedom of religion" was defined as meaning an American has the right to practice or organize in any religious manner they wish (as long as no violence comes from it, of course) as well as has the right to not engage in any religous practice at all.
Oh, btw, what's the problem with the photoshopped picture of Kerry and Richard Simmons? Seems to me like there's too much homophobia lurking everywhere.
Voting is personal, so vote for whoever you damn well please...

Ok i just want to clear things up. I dont hate anyone here.Nobody is becoming each others enemies. We're just talkin about how we feel with the situation. Everyone has there opinions. But look at the facts on Bush...c'mon ppl wake up. Its not that hard to see hes messing it up. I'm giving Kerry a chance. Look what happen to moron #1 (First Bush). He lost the re-election. Moron #2 is following the same path.

I do believe that religion and politics go hand in hand, because you can't simply sway people one way or another in either.
:disappoin
you say that because the current president has the same beliefs as you. what would you say if it were true that politics went hand in hand with religion and somebody like Kerry were in office voting for pro-choice and stem-cell research. what if an atheist person was ellected? suddenly because the choice isn't a religion (your religion) based decision will you still believe that politics and religion should be hand in hand?
if this is truly a free country and everybody should have freedom of religion then there should be zero religion in politics. how can you possibly respect everybodys religion if you are driven by your own?
do i believe in abortion? i would never have one myself, never in a million years. however, i understand every stage of pregnancy from conception to birth...from emotional to physical. as a woman i 100% am pro-choice for women's rights.
do i believe in stem cell research? yes i do. my best friend broke his spine/cord. they mended it with metal mesh. thru therapy he regained some feeling/momvement in his toes but thats as far as it got. all the surgery and foriegn material never quite healed. 1 yr after the accident he passed away on thanksgiving day due to complications & infection. it all could have been avoided. do you know where some embreo's come from for scientific research? often when embreo's are taken for later use there is storage fees and what-not. after years the contract is broken for whatever reason and the embreo's are DISGUARDED. so you're telling me it's okay to thow the embreo out but it's not okay to retain them for scientific research instead of the trash? not only was life lost when the embreo was diguarded but so was my 24 yr old friend's life disguarded. another line of reasource that you don't hear about much is the donation of a miscarriage. it's no different than choosing to donate your parts after death.
i was raised christian from the day i was born. there is nothing i can't stand more is a pushy religious person. religion should be self contained. who's to say what religion is right and what religion is wrong? every person in america should have the right to believe what they want and not have the government control based on religious decisions. if you don't believe in abortion then don't get one. don't take away somebody's right because you and your religion don't believe in it. that is so 1 sided. it's borderline ignorant to only see things the way you choose to see it. and it's annoying to push your beliefs on people....ESPECIALLY through politics!

bush says if kerry is in office he'll tax those who make over $200,000 which will effect small businesses.
it's people who think like that who are causing the rich to become richer. i have lived in both metro Los Angeles and now rural Oregon. i don't know if any SMALL business that makes $200,000 profit...unless maybe you're a gucci store on rodeo.
in big cities it costs more so you make more, in small cities you make less therefore it takes less to survive. it's all relative. $+200,000/yr is no small business anywhere.
and if you think it is then you must be living in a home beyond you're means, driving a car you'll be paying on longer than you'll be driving it. at that point it's you're own fault $200,000 doesn't feel like enough. all americans should be making $200,000....shoot, at the very least all americans should be making $100,000/yr
so it's said that 2% are making $+200,000/yr. that means 2% is cosidered high income. doesn't that strike anybody wrong that only 2% of americans fall in that catagory?
i take offense to the welfare remarks. we own our home, our cars, have a child, and are trying to start a REAL small business...no help from anybody. i consider myself the average amercian struggling to maintain middle class while it still exists.
in the debate they asked bush what he says to people who are losing their jobs to computers and outsourcing. his answer is he'll put up funds for people to learn new professions. so if i'm 48 and been bookkeeping for 25 years you want me to learn a new profession to get me by until social security...which keeps getting raised. at the rate we're going it's going to be 85 to retire.

Social Security is another big issue, I believe the generations that are 18-30 and any generations after that will never see any thing back from all the social security we pay in. My mother is 63, she'll be 64 in a few months and had paid in ever sence she was 18, and is only eligable to draw $500 a month. She will never get back what she paid in, she has to work a full time job and still barly affords to scrape by.

Canadas pretty sweet. If I lived in the states and Bush won again, I'd move to Canada. I would be ashamed to call myself American in a country that re-elects a man like that. I pity you smart Americas who have to live under a wanker like that.
Personally I think Canada isn't as socialist as I'd like it to be, parts of Europe have it right forsure. The rich need to start making less and the poor need to start being payed more. I'm aware this will hurt the economy but money isn't important. Basic human rights are most important.
Heres a nice little fact, If America stopped all its millitary activity (300 BILLION A YEAR) they could feed every starving person on the planet.

Bush never said he was against stem cell research, he just said the government wasn't going to pay for it. As for abortion,I used to believe in it for certain things like rape, but since I met the love of my life, who so happens to be the product of a rape, I changed my mind. Had her mother, chosen to abort her I would not have ever met the most wonderful person in my life.

Bush never said he was against stem cell research, he just said the government wasn't going to pay for it.
No actually what he said was that they could use the stem cells they have no but once they run out they are not allowed to harvest anymore. It's not just him not paying for it. There are companies and schools that won't be using government funding that would do the research, but they won't be allowed to once the stem cells run out. So basically once they run out it will turn into an illegal activity.

Different opinions are what make this country great, to be able to debate something without the fear of being persecuted for it. I like to argue my point, and so do others obviousely, I do however appologize for the welfare comment, that slipped past me, I sometimes go too far. This is how I pass the time when I'm at work and we are slow, I don't mean anything personal by it.

 This is going to be one interesting election. There's so many mixed opinons and lies, etc.
I know that I will be voting for Kerry because I don't see what Bush is doing for this country. I am also upset at the fact that many of Americans have to be sent overseas to fight a war thats not realy a war. My brother is in the military (yes, its voluteer shit) and is about to be FUCKED over by the goverment. He's done 6yrs in the army and 2 yrs reserve. They just called him up (ets date Sept 8, 2004) to come back and go to war. Its crazy how unorganized things are getting with the military. The story is WAYYY longer and more complex for me to get into right now, but for the guy who said that his dad was in the militarty and shit, I can tell you THINGS HAVE CHANGED SINCE THEN!!! I can't begin to tell you what i have experienced within this past month. My brother was threatened to be reported AWOL (although records and shit show he was released from the army Sept. 8th) so he left this Sunday to check in with the unit in question. :nono:  I won't see him again for 545 days if he's deployed.
This war shit is messed up because, it would be different if these guys KNEW who they were fighting against. Who are they fighting against. Why?? The sad thing is that your crew could be driving down the road and get blown up by a car exploding or whatever. My thing is, if you are going to be fighting a war, KNOW WHO YOU ARE FIGHTING AND WHY. Bush's stories have changed more than ever. (they looking for Bin-Laden, they looking for WMD, trying to restore peace, they trying to get Sadaam.......it goes on and on)
I am with Ami on this stuff:

Next on that welfare comment, me and my family, who's black and did grow up poor was never on welfare. My mom worked her ass off so that we would have clothes, shoes, food, etc. My thing is that people always talking about the poor and the rich. What about those stuck dead in the middle. My experiences have been like this:
**In k-9th grade: mom made too much so we had to pay for lunch in school, but actually my mom didn't make enough to pay for 3 kids lunch everyday so we suffered. Later on down the roaad my mom stopped being so "honest" and lied on the paper work, then we got FREE lunch.
**Time for me to go off to college, I can't get any assistance for school because my mom made too much but yet I was the one paying for all of my schooling. NO BREAKS AT ALL unless it was a loan that I/we still couldn't get.
I could keep going on and on but the point is either you have to be dead broke or damn rich to get any breaks in this country. Also my thing is why is the rich complaing about paying more taxes. I worked for the IRS for a year and I saw some taxes from people that made $600,000 only paying like $1000-3000 in taxes. I saw some people that made 960K pay $10,000. And then there was Alot of $50,000-100,000 paying just as much. I just don't get it at all. Also I know that some of you may say this doesn't count for everyone, but hell I use to process 1000-2000 forms a day. I saw what alot of these people made and paid. The rich need to stop crying.
I got alot more to say, but I am sleepy, from working 2.5 jobs 7 days a week to be able to maintain and keep from falling under. Then being labeled as a lowlife because I tried and couldn't keep up. I live in Atlanta,Ga. Business was blowing up around here when I came out of school. So I just knew that when I got out of college, jobs would be lined up like CRAZY. While going to college, I could go to a job, QUIT the bitch, and have another one the NEXT day. All of that has changed now. Now its all about who you know. You have to Know someone to get a job now a days. So meanwhile I just work my ass off until I can get that big break out of the "middle-class" title.
Anyways, HOLLA. I will be voting for Kerry, whether you all think he's an idiot, I'm an idiot or whatever. I just want to see a change from Bush. Plus, any boards or discussions that I come across, the supporters of Bush only/mainly talk about this war shit and what he's supposedly doing right by it. I think NOT. Is there anything else?? Or is this whole election going to be about that??
I know that I will be voting for Kerry because I don't see what Bush is doing for this country.

Bush will be getting my vote because; socialized medicine doesn't work, taxes are already to high, minimum wage laws don't work, social security needs to be changed and Kerry is a tool of the highest order.
My issues with Bush include immigration and spending. The first is to difficult for those who wish to come here legally and the second because he hasn't found a spending measure yet to veto. Kerry offers nothing better and in most cases his policies will damage the ability of businesses to put people on the payroll.

If i could vote i would vote for Bush. I dont understand why you would want John Kerry in office with all the lying and flip flopping he does. Also if his plan with other countries doesnt work, what then. He has no other plan to fight terrorism.

socialized medicine can work. i live in oregon. probably the last state that has socialized medicine. up until recent forced budget cuts it worked really good.
kerry is not a flip flopper. he agreed to the plan then BUSH flip flopped the plan. i saw Bush this morning out on the campaing trail saying "i didn't forget. i remember the people on ground-zero telling me 'whatever it takes' and i'm sticking to it"....well shoot, that would be great if we were still after BIN LADEN. i made remarks about this whole war being over an oil pipeline that sadam didn't want. i'll take it a step further. bush supporters say it was good to take sadam down because he killed so many of his people. riddle me this: where did sadam get the weapons to kill his people? go ask daddy Bush. it's an ugly circle, isn't it?
if kerry is a flip-flop, then i too am a flip-flop. i was all for taking bin laden down. sept. 11 was a huge tradegy. when bush did the magic trick and changed it from bin laden to sadam right before our eyes, and innocent people, both american/british & iraqi's started to die. bush is trading blood for oil and making money while doing so.
T-MO, sorry to hear about your bro :( my bro just got out of the service in march. he had been in south korea for who knows how long. like you & your bro, my eyes are now open. thank the stars above he will not get called back. he suffered a knee injury. matter of fact he was being put under for knee surgery as planes were crashing into the world trade centers. he was stationed at fort bragg. he said a war might as well have started and they were the front line. he wasn't sure what to expect when we woke back up from surgery. due to his knee, he is now disabled in the army's eyes.
for every time i say thank goodness he's here, i will also send well wishes to your family!!! keep us updated!!!

Hahaha...read this: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041027/ap_on_re_us/harris_assault
For those of you who don't know who this lady is; she's a Republican who was Secretary of State in Florida during the Bush/Gore elections. She was the one who kept taking the recounters to court to try and get them to stop the recount and declare Bush the winner. Pretty interesting that a Secretary of State was allowed to work on the Presidential campaign and not stay unbiased, but I guess that's what happens when Jed Bush is governor. She was also the one that told an independant group (who was in charge of voting registration) to use vague data when deciding who was and was not allowed to vote in the elections. So basically if there was a convicted felon with the same first and/or last name as you and you were black, you weren't able to vote. They were told to be vague so they weren't even required to check the birth dates or social security numbers, or even a middle initial. And since the majority of african american voters have always voted for a democrat, they misteriously were not allowed to vote. Any one who wants to claim that I'm making this up, just do some research and you can try to prove me wrong. Too bad the guy wussed out and swerved before he hit her, there'd be one less ignorant corrupt jackass in the world.

If there's one thing I hate about bush, it's the war, but truth is, it's here, we have to deal with it so Bush is the winner on my part. Kerry just says he's gonna pull troops out and abandon the thing and get other countrys involved. I say that's bullshit and kerry has no real plan to end the war or run it out on it's course.

Unfortunately it's not bullshit at all, and if you took the time to look into it you'd know I'm right. They're all proven facts. The independant company who did the voter registration admitted that it was asked to look thru the lists and be vague. And there were many people who were turned away from the voting places because of the mistakes made.

You're misinformed. "...the war, but truth is, it's here, we have to deal with it so Bush is the winner on my part." So Bush is a winner for starting a war and invading a country for no good reason, and a war that you don't agree with at that? You hate him for starting it, but he's a winner for doing it? That sure doesn't make since to me.
And Bush's plan is to teach the Iraqi people to run the country themselves so the troops can get out of there. Kerry is using the same idea only he's going to have more people to do the training so it will get done faster and we can get out of there sooner. And Kerry is going to try and plead with other countries to help us with the training and whatever else we need to do. Unlike Bush whom isn't willing to ask for help or even allow help from other countries who wouldn't help with the Invasion. Bush sees that as a sign of weakness, but I'm sure other countries would see it as "stepping down a notch" instead of our country thinking we're bad asses and the best country in the world.

All government officials "flip-flop", that's their job (especially near election time). They say one thing, someone talks to them and tells them otherwise, and they change their minds; or deny it.

I was wrong in the way I explained it. He did say both of those things, but even before that he said he knew of a meeting when 2 members Al-Qaeda went to Suddam's palace. He even stated the exact month when this took place. I wish I remembered more specific info of what he said but it was months ago when I saw the press conference where he stated that. I'll try to look tomorrow for what he said exactly, it's too damn late for me to do some searching.

Nah man its kool bro trust me. Like i said i'm very sensitive about Iraq right now. The Americans should pull out now. Iraq is capable of handling things themselves. The only reason they're not pulling out is because they're affraid of the Baathist return. IMO i think they will return. Thats not the point right now. Exactly! It's called rhetoric... simply defined as "the art of persuasion" which I've studied extensively. You may be able to throw various facts out onto the table presenting/defending your case but then somebody else can use the same facts with the words rearranged to syllogistically explain them with the opposite meaning. I could get really into all the theories dating back to Aristotle but I don't have time...
Humanity is in serious need of revision.
Mellowboy, all I can say is I'm sorry. Not knowing whether your family is even okay just sounds horrible, especially in an age of communication where people from all over the world can communicate with each other... talk about stifling a society. Keep your chin up bro...

See the thing with my brothers situation is that he has done his contractual obligation of 8 yrs with the army (He's 27 now). He was released from the military on Sept. 8th this year. Last week we got lots of threatening calls from a group that said he was involuntarily re-Enlisted to their unit and for him to report to them or they was going to let the MP's come and get him. He was at work at the time. Anyways to make a long story short, he is up there right now battling against them sending him because what they are doing is illegal.
So trust me, I understand that when ppl sign up for the military, theres a possibility of going to war, just don't do it illegally like they are doing my brother AND ALOT OF OTHERS, that are in the reserve now getting ready to get out.
