I raced a prelude with a Volvo T5
we got to the lights ahead of the traffic so i Revved at him
It took ages before the light went green but i got a marginally better start launching at 2000rpm. His tires Squealled and we were off..
I was beating him before i got up to 3600rpm when he started gaining on me but then...... :flash:
..... the Turbo kicked in at 4000rpm :angryfire :hehehe: and i was off he might aswell have walked but nothing was going to make a difference o and i had an Extra passenger and a Trunk full of stuff :smoker: all in all i had a smile on my face

What a great sales pitch for Volvo if you would've lost. The turbo-charged (larger-engined) T5 couldn't even beat a stock prelude.

Hehe, good kill. I have never raced a volvo before.
Just curious, but what trim of prelude was it. If it was an S model then I take back the "good" part :licker:

you think i can't beat a prelude ? I'm not sure if i quite understand RiceRocketeer ?
The T5 is a five cylinder turbo with 236hp mines has factory sport springs and bridgestone S02's on it ...... I know it can beat a prelude cuz i just done that .... I know it can beat a Celica GTS ..... I know i can beat V6 Camaros and i also beat an Impala (the ones with 212hp) that put up a better fight for all the seconds that the turbo hadn't spooled up
.... I beat 4 maximas including the new one..... and a Merc C320
and i played around with a Supra TT on a rolling start from about 35 at which point 75mph he handed me my ass

have i raced a 01 prelude i have no clue i think i have then again i'm not entirely sure ok well that means i have to go find one.
But i test drove a Prelude 00 and a 98 it wasn't nearly as fast
they made lots of noise (one had a cheap exhaust) the other had an engine problem oh did i mention the Engine warning light on my car was on and i can't hear the dump valve EEK i thought it was the aircon .... Now i'm fucked

yea well i want to race a new 2001/2002 model prelude that would be more fun ...
I know a Mustang and a 300ZX driver who won't race me . .... its wierd but the Volvo fits right in the middle of V8 and V6 if you look at Camaros it'll keep up with the V8 and trounce the V6 but it'll never beat the V8 stock so it sits in limbo thats why i need a new car

What are you talking about that the new 2000 and 2001's are faster than say a 97. 98? They both have the same horsepower, same curb weights. Get your facts straight man, there is really no difference. Oh and I forgot anyway that Volvos were cool or something? I mean what do old men drive those or do grandmas? Well I'm sayin' I don't care what you say, bring your Volvo drivin' ass over here to Atlanta and let me see what you got.

I'd make sure if i bought one it can at least out run Volvo's T5 - o yea the English police use Volvos for a reason ... they're fast they have the 250hp versions tho and then they upgrade the internals and if you want to race a modified Volvo go to Sweden and kiss my ass .....

i think a t5 will whoop a lightly modded prelude, any year. preludes arent exactly fast cars stock  . maybe compared to other hondas. as for volvos not being "cool", im sure hes sorry his cars not "trendy". i guess people should buy whatever car is "in" rather than whatever is faster or better overall. personally id take a t5 anyday over a prelude. nsx u got a cool car in my opinion is it modified?
i think we should race, nsx. battle of the un-trendy imports that can whoop most trendy imports. i think it would be a close race by what u say here.

I think you all are missing the fact that the T5 is turbo charged. Honda has yet to manufacture a turbocharged car and i wouldn't put a T5 up against any honda other than the S2000 cause to face reality, thats the only car that stands a chance. A better race would be a T5 vs a WRX. I would be more interested in hearing about that race....
....im not a big fan of 4 door cars simply cause it has "familly" writen all over it. Maybe when i have kids and a wife i will look at them with interest. But i just think if your gonna make a sports car, 2 doors seem more sporty than 4.
But again, thats just my opinion.:bandit:

I can pull out races with them pretty consistantly now but I am about 100LBS lighter than the 95 prelude is from 2885 to my 2760 as the car sits. I get this one who finds me a few times a month going west after work at night, I live in lawyerville south Florida. He does not hit gears hard either but pulls so good a fraction of a second before second cam kicks in on mine. We play around light to light on the way home and really has never beaten me right unless he got a good jump at the light.
I know the tweener feeling being able to beat the 4.6L mustang GTs but can't yet get close enough to the older and newer version of those models. The volvo could take those with a stick and an agressive shifter, I think.:frog:

So lets say you raced a WRX and got ya ass handed to ya, does that make your T5 slow? No. Last friday at the track this dude in a WRX raced a GSR with a JR SuperCharger. The GSR toar him a new ass hole. I never said the WRX was slow, its just the sometimes the tables turn around when you both are using force induction.
I guess what im trying to say is that the T5 is gonna have the advantage over many cars that arent turbo charged. But put it with a group of WRX's, RX-7s or GS-Ts and things just might be different!

You guys must really like to argue or something, cause this sure isn't worth arguing over. The guy says he beat a prelude, why is that so hard to believe. Your "almight" preludes aren't the fastest cars on the block, get over it. A 15.5 sec pass in the quarter is peppy for a 4- cylinder, but that ain't exactly fast.

I dont think im the "All-mighty Prelude", there are plenty of cars that could spank my ass. But i just dont see why people make big deals when they beat a car they are expected to beat. Thats like me saying "Hell yeah! I beat a Metro!!" Im not taking anything away from NSX, hell more power to ya. But dont you think its more exciting to hear the guy driving the Prelude say "I beat a WRX today."?
Oh, with better lauches i could problably run 15.2.;)

Eclipse GST's are slower i know for a fact I can beat them and as for the WRX it weights more than 500lbs less than a volvo and still has 224hp he also has better traction.
RX7's have 280hp but it also has rotary's it is also more than 500lbs less in weight .. Now if i took the engine out and put it into the S40 then i'd be able to take out that WRX.
i could beat an older RX7 i dunno about a newer one .... I prolly could beat a mustang if i was an aggressive shifter ..
The only problem with racing a WRX is that the greatest Acceleration only occurs when the turbo spools up since the turbo is bigger it would take longer .
Rolling start i might take him :flash:
only problem is that the gearing is to tall and the car weights too much ...
I've raced a Supra TT before and kept up to around 75 where his car kept accelerating at a constant rate whilst mine just died off

yeah, eclipse gsts arent all that fast.
funny how u wanna race people from a rolling start. im the exact opposite, i gotta race from a standstill. if im racing from a roll i gott be racing something really slow like an accord or non turbo eclipse.

The Prelude needs VTEC otherwise it is not that fast. Some Preludes They never should have made in the first place (Prelude S....for Slackin). I wonder what the Prelude S with VTEC would be like? Once I rode in a 92 Prelude Non-VTEC with an intake........man that was fast......and Non Vtec......I declared it another one of a kind DOHC. If you have a Non Vtec Prelude you need to seriously about going H22a before you pour any money into a NON VTEC engine.....
The fastest Prelude is a VTEC one from the fourth generation. Fourth Generation Preludes are Lighter than the Fifth Gen Ones, that's why they dip even though the new ones have a couple extra hp. Once you put an intake on a fourth generation prelude with vtec it bring the beast out of the Prelude

I'm sorry to let it dawn upon everyone who has an Eclipse......but they're incredibly ugly and incredibly slow and incredibly unreliable.
RS Oh so slow
GS Very very slow
GST Very very slow GS + Turbo.....Ever wonder why GST's are always in the shop? Because the little puny slow engine can't handle Turbo. Also, the fact that it's Mitibishi... too
It's funny how someone with an eclipse gs thought they would beat my 94 Civic EX stock with intake and exaust resonater removed with 2.25 piping to stock muffler............Each of us raced with a passenger....They raced on my right side, the side the intake points. They heard the intake :bloated: Then kept asking what was in my car  He kept swearing that my engine must be Jap-Spec... I was
like O.K. I told him it was just an intake and custom exaust. And this Eclipse had a bunch of mods imaginable including a lot of stickers that add horsepower. It just made a bunch of noiseThe only reason I would want to race an Eclipse is if they are acting like an ass thinking their car is fast....Then you gotta rub it in. As for Turbo...Give me another car with turbo or major speed and the GST is dead. Civic EX with Turbo kills any Eclipse you can come up with. And the Eclipse from Fast and furios is fake. A real GST is not loud even with an RS Racing Style Exaust. For some reason the turbo quiets the exaust, I seen it on a GST

Putting on an intake will hardly bring out the beast in anything. And what do you mean I wonder what a Prelude type S would be like with VTEC? Honda did make 4th Gen VTEC Preludes you know so that's what a "Prelude type S with VTEC" would be like.

yeah, I agree. Wouldn't the Prelude VTEC be like a Prelude S with VTEC?
Prelude S with VTEC probably wouldn't be as powerful as the VTEC model, but why would you rather experience something that's not as good? Why not just feel the VTEC version of it? Its like being able to buy a Ferarri F355, but instead you would rather want a Porche Boxter.

Oh, I always though a GST was a GS + turbo, that would explain why it's so slow......But the GST is still a small and slow engine.....
PRELUDE VTEC IS NOT PRELUDE S + VTEC
In the Fourth Generation the Prelude S is SOHC while Prelude VTEC is DOHC......So A Prelude S Vtec would be much slower still than a Prelude VTEC H22a

i could beat an older RX7 i dunno about a newer one ....
I've raced a Supra TT before and kept up to around 75 where his car kept accelerating at a constant rate whilst mine just died off
You kept up with a Supra TT and can beat an older RX-7?!? Dang, what the crap do those Volvo's run in the quarter now-a-days? I know a supra TT runs like a 13.7 or something close to that.
Oh and about the turbo on the WRX... I don't think that the size of the turbo(compressor), in itself, has a whole lot to do with turbo lag. It depends on the size and angle of the turbine blades. And the maintenance and compression have something to do with it also. I am not really sure on this, but I just think it makes sense... so feel free to make fun of me if you know better than I.

yea it would have a good quater if it was a six speed manual but its not and its a five speed auto five speeds are faster than manuals (apparently well thats what its like with the 300ZX TT) the thing with the Supra was that i hit 75 and it died like it skipped a gear it pissed me off so i dunno but the gearing gets really long from then on cuz the gearing is set for 155mph.
anyway enough of this thread .....

cuz i like my car to be practical in everyday life, through crowded parking lots and over less then perfect roads, i like getting reasonable gas milage, i like a motor that lasts more than 100,000 miles without having to be rebuilt, i like taking corners (i beat a camaro ss around an autocross course when my car was stock) i like carrying 4 people comfortably (another one against the camaro, u call that a back seat? hell the front seats arent even comfortable) i like to be able to see the road right in front of my car not 30 feet ahead, visibility isnt on any camaros list of options. and if a muclecar EVER tried to race me on a wet, icy, gravelly, or any other way traction limited road, they would have their ass handed to them like no tomorrow.
show me a domestic car thats won 1st place manufacturers title in 4 of the last 6 wrc tournaments and ill consider buying it. but u cant, so ill stick with my impreza thank you. :D youre the one whos "gotta learn to run with the big dogs" sure domestics might be on top of the drag racing world, but thats the ONLY type of racing theyre on top of. all of the series that keep the cars pretty similar to stock are ruled by imports.
and in case u didnt realize id like to mention the fastest stock car in the world is an import, the mclaren f1
oh btw if i put the money into my car that a stock ss costs, i would smoke it in the straightaway as well as everywhere else.
and before i get flamed for hating domestics, i dont hate domestics, i know how to appreciate ALL types of cars, unlike some people here

Camaro SS's can do 32 miles to the gallon i picked up the brochure last week
Nothing else impressed me it hasn't even got 100hp per litre

i dont hate imports, i just hate slow ones, when u break into the 11's with ur car, ill give u some respect. the best thing about camaro's is that they are a great platform for modifications. the fact that they dont have even 100 hp per litre is what makes them great. that means the engine is no where near its limit, so u can squeeze more power out of it easily, and best of all, cheaply. think of it this way, u can get 500 horses out of a sbc for less than 5 grand, even less then that if u do the work yourself. sure, u can get 500 horses out of a vtec, but it requires changing everything, including the block. and after that, u cant get much more power out of it. that small block will keep making more power as long as u keep modding it.
i dont hate imports, i actually think they are better looking cars than most domestics, and in many cases better engineered as well. so if u have a 10 or 11 second import, thats great, and u could kick a camaro's ass, but if ur car has a cold air intake and plug wires, has all kinds of ground effects and wings, and is covered in stickers (i hear those japanese writing stickers add 2 tenths in the 1/4) and runs 13's, im gonna make fun of u. if your car isnt fast, it shouldnt look the part.

altho having you say that still doesn't mean anything since a Camaro SS costs $35000 and you can pick up an EG6 for &3500 you have 31500 to spend on all those other goodies like Engine work 15000 bodykit 5000
then you have a spare 15000 to spend on other things + the bit you woulda spent making the SS go fast and even if its 20000 for a camaro the Civic can catch up
FREAK IT

ok, ill give u that, i take back some of the things i said. but everything i said goes for older camaro's as well. a friend of mine pickced up a 92 Z28 with 60k miles for $650. (although it is a fairly old car, and a 92 civic would be rediculously cheap as well). Im not trying to trash imports, i just dont like poser cars. ive seen guys with prostreet 60's chevelles with wheelie bars, 20 inch wide tires, and full cages that run 13's, and i hve the same attitute toward them as i do toward poser imports, if ur car isnt fast, dont make people think it is.

hey no offense man i love domestics just as much as i love imports, but coming in here and trashing them for being slow from the start is no way to make people see your point. The big picture is that most of the people that post on this forum could not afford a camaro SS to mod out in the first place, and that is why they work with what they have.
and by the way those late 80s early 90s camaros arent that fast. Most of them are 17 second stones, so they would be about the same starting point, although ill bet theyd be able to open up power a little easier. My friend has a 2000 Civic Si that is running deep into the 12s. he has a modified motor, a turbo kit and a 100 shot of nitrous, and i seriously doubt that he has caught up to the 30k price of a new camaro ss.< i know z28s can be had for less>
by the way what year is your car? what mods have you done? i grew up in a chevy family, Im the only honda in the group of one suburban, and 3 camaros. My brother has a 2001 camaro SS and i love that car. I could have bought a camaro but i liked the honda
