A few days ago, I decided to build all the Belgian 2003 Le Mans entries as 1/43 models. I'm gonna build all 6 of them at the same time, that should save me some building time and most of all I can keep on working without having to wait for stuff to dry.

Which cars am I talking of ?

In LMP :

4 - Riley & Scott MK IIIC : (with Marc Goossens)

This should be good... I'll be keeping an eye on this thread! BTW - if you want a better set of wheels for the Panoz, Renaissannce do a set that are way better than the PM ones. I did last the 2002 car and they made a big difference.

:iagree: I've used them for years, and always had great service from them They also publish Four Small Wheels 10 times a year which is well worth checking out if your into non-mainstream kits.

What a great undertaking.
There's a lot of 1/43 builds showing up lately. It's great to see a nice variety starting to appear.

Awesome to see all those being built at once Guy, the bodyshells look great together like that.
OMG I see a Texaco Marlboro McLaren M23 in that pic, you are a lucky man! You wouldn't happen to have my other "Holy Grail" kit, the Protar 1/12 McLaren MP4/2C would you?

Unfortunately not, but I do have the Texaco Marlboro McLaren twice, does that count? Lol.

Now comes the hardest part (to me anyway) :

leaving the half-dry models alone at least another 24 hours before handling them. I think I'll start putting decals on the Pagani tomorrow evening... The Panoz still needs to be masked off in order to spraypaint the black parts on the car... The other car livery's come as decals.

Change of plans : since the Pagani needed at least 2 extra layers of gloss varnish (metallic paint does need that) and the Porsches were ready to start with, I decided to put decals on the nr 75 Porsche...

So I did, and I also constructed the wheels. Pretty slow-going, after 2 days this is where I'm standing :

Love the wheels, are they the PM ones from the kit? I usually find their wheels not so good but those look real nice.

My mistake... I corrected it now.

That are the wheels that come with the kit yes... They look pretty realistic I think.

Nice going, you are building at a great rate!
Are those wheel spokes PE? I agree lotus_man they look amazing. Will you clear coat over the decals or is that not possible given the scale?

Sennake

I will polish them. I don't ever clear coat any racecar. That is my policy. The real cars also have a clear paintjob with less clear sponsorstickers over it. I try to stay as close to reality as possible. I must admit that this policy comes in handy when I'm too chicken to clearcoat decals I don't know or how they will react...

But this issue has been discussed in the past on other occasions, so I'll stop argumenting now.

Sennake
05-18-2004, 05:07 PM
Also don't forget that you are watching pics of a 1/43 scale model : the actual model is less than half the size of the picture, so mistakes are a lot less visuable in reality...

I'm well aware of that Guy, as I said on lotus_man's MP4/8 thread, makes the results even more amazing.

IMPRESSIVE job on the less-than-stellar way PM do their wheels.

I noticed that it appears they are still not giving brake calipers and also have the usual treaded tires...I thought they had stopped doing both...

Bill

Sennake

The brake calipsers are there, but I didn't put the wheels in their correct position (it's just a dry fit). If you look closely you will see the disks and calipsers. I'll post an enlargement of a wheel pic someday.

Man, your decal technique is great!!! Please share your technique, please!!! The seat belts look very nice, what material did you made them out of???

I am building the same kit, but I mess up on the decals for the following areas:
1) CF bumper, :banghead:
2) Three silver line at the back of the car, :banghead: :banghead: and
3) Left Long narrow piece from window to the back. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I end up stripped the paint job and order a set of decal replacement!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
