Yea Chris, you need to polish the hell out of it then spray it with semi-dullcoat? Because I notice a lot of orange peal.

looks worse than it is, a good thick clear coat then a good cutting back followed by some polish will have it smooth as hell. My main problem is i use automotive paints that are two stage.
but they always look great after a good polish.

Chris..come to think of it, that looks like my cars paint after its been washed, waxed, and clayed. How about some info on the paint?
chrismcgee
04-19-2004, 04:54 PM
well the paint is a ford colour, called paris blue.
bought in spray can form from halfords.
it is a tricky paint to spray as it leaves uneven pools of "pearl" if sprayed incorrectly.
but produces stunning looks

halfords paint is good, their primer is shit tho, lol.
to get a good primer finish you have to do lots of mist coats, and i do mean mist! takes 4 coats before you cant see the old colour. otherwise you risk the primer "pooling" and running into detail areas

Tamiya has the same problem, I use so much primer to cover up my putty work.

Halfords Primer..Shit......No way, loads of use swear by it. do you pre heat the can and shake for 2-3 mins first?

must say i have a number of problems firstly the plastic Primer doesnt cover filler and can come out pitty or grainy. this is with prewarming then shaking the can for 2 mins.
the worse problem i have is the bloody staff!!! they have little or no product Knowledge and dont even get me started on the paint mixing service.
"can you mix me some of this peral paint"
"do you have the paint code"
"nope do you have a catalogue i can look though?"
"no" slopes off and gets someone else
same thing happens again its like attack of the brain snatchers and goes on 4 longer then i can be arse to type

Same here - I find the white good for undercoating red. and use the grey for most other shades. Their Satin Black is also excellent for underside/suspension stuff.
As for top coat, I find the metallics go on better, thinner and smoother than their solid colours. I'm just spraying a VIP Gloria GT-SV in Vauxhall Midnight Black and it looks phenomenal so far.
Oh, incidentally my local Halfords currently has a 3 for 2 deal on all standard 300ml aerosols (not sure if it's a country-wide promotion)

Halford's paint is ok for the simple colours like matt black, aluminium, and some of the metallics, not the primer though. But I would recommend the Holt's mixing colours they have. I got a can of Rosso Corsa mixed for my 360 CS, and it sprays real good on a few sample pieces. The mixing system which they do, has some flip flop colours too.. and they have a catologue of quite a lot actual colours, which they can mix. The guys at Halford's Greenwich seem friendly in helping with your colour needs.

my local one in dartford is a ripspeed outlet and has all sorts of new stuff, but staff are still the same!
primer is good in the summer tho, just spraying it in the winter leaves all sorts of probs when spraying in the cold.
looks like chicken skin. untill you sand it back.
have the car on another skyline chassis now, as a test. looking good. will put pics on tonight.
also just recieved my Vertex RX7 today, will post pics of that too
