OK! That's the one I want!! NSX JGTC V6 equipped metalic red S2000 fastback! Those white wheels go nicely, but I reckon it should be available with gold or black with chrome lip!!

Will,
Just beautiful. Really nice color. The rear quarter windows have grown on me now!
So will the underside be too "simplified" to include a true dual exhaust :naughty:
You can count on my vote if this creation goes to a contest bro

Polished. Paint rubbers soon, so this may be the last time anyone sees it alive. So I decided to share.

I love the paint. I wish I could paint a ton of cars that color, but it would be too obvious....

You must have put a lot of effort into it with body mods + engine + interior details.
Go ahead and paint every model of yours that color! Its so bright.

So, disaster struck the WilliMotorsport miniature shop floor today.
The S2k, almost done. So close. Needs: side windows, exhaust system, some engine wiring, and metal transfers. That's it. Nothing else.
Except for a new paint job.
Seriously.
I was attaching an antenna to the roof, in the middle right in front of the break like for the trunk. I decided I didn't like it. I took it off. I wanted to remove the glue residue. So. I went at it with nail polish remover.
What kind of messed up crack was I on? I know better than that. I mean, duh, nailpolish remover is made to remove... nailpolish... a lacquer. My car was painted in what? Automotive lacquer. Duh. I knew better. I knew better!!! What was I thinking?? Any where, here's the damage.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/75086S2000Fastback29_Disaster_copy-med.jpg
So.
I am hoping, hope upon hope, that I will be able to mask off the rest of the car, spray the mistake, clear it, and polish it all out. It should work, right? 'Cause I can't repaint the whole thing. This is it....
It was one of those days that I was glad I don't have any kids in the house: my apartment was overflowing with scores of expletives at impressive volume.
Cry.

AHHHHH, that seems like something I'd do. Make a mistake, even though I know better. I think you can mask it though, it's only a little spot.

Throw another coat or two on the whole car and you probably won't be able to see it!

04-29-2004, 11:50 PM
i'm sorry to hear that. it looks beautiful still! from the looks of it, you can probably get away with first polishing out that area then respraying the affected area only with color then clear. i wouldn't mask the area as metallics would build up at the masked edges and you would definitely be able to see where the masked area was after you're done painting. you'd want to feather and blend the new color with the area just barely outside the affected region and clear over the fresh paint only. follow up with colorsand and polish and no one would be the wiser. i've been able to save a few finishes that way and i hope it works for you as well.

Sorry to hear 'bout this.. I was looking forward to seeing this one done soon.
That's gonna be a tough respray.
If you can use the panel lines as a masking point you might save yourself the headache of a strip and repaint. That way there's no heavy paint line to sand and try to polish out.

Using the panel lines as markers could ruin the project. I have seen people repaint sections like that and the paint is different shades.
I say just repaint the whole thing, sadly.:banghead:

Use Krystal Klear or other type water based glues to glue things like side mirrors, antennas and clear parts to the body. This will eliminate disasters like this from happening.
willimo
04-30-2004, 11:29 AM
Veyron - I know! It was just a temporary and insane lapse in judgement. Well, mirrors and windows I use epoxy, but headlamps, tallamps, antennas, I use white glue. Usually.
It's too late to repaint the whole car, so I am going to repaint just a the roof panel. At least, I'll do that first and if it doesn't work I'll repaint the whole thing. The way I see it is if the patch doesn't work, I'll end up doing the same amount of work in the end, but if it does, I can save a lot of time. I'm going to mask it along the leading edge of the roof, over the top of the windows, around the trunk, and use the fold betwen the side windows and the trunk line to hide the break there. However, that's just for overspray, I'm also going to mist it and blend it like appleseed suggested.
Yecchh! I am so stupid.

Are you airbrushing? If you are try to "fade" it into the line of masking tape. Meaning, to actually paint up to the masking tape start to fade into the old paint about an inch away. Just a thought. :2cents:

That sucks... sorry to hear that something like that happened... My friend dropped his newly paintedbody yesterday ruinınf the whole paint job as well. Hard decison to make... He removed the paint and done it again over night...
But that area looks like one color and it can be done like the real cars, just paint that area, sand polish. I think you should give it a try, because if you mess up you will repaint anyways. at least if you succeed to fix it you will save the time and the hassle of repainting.
Sorry to hear about the mishap again. Best of luck to you. I hope you can fix it because just like everyone I am anxiously waiting the finish of this build

I repainted this roof this afternoon, and shot some clear over it this eventing. The paint all went on fine, but at the moment, the repainted roof is slightly darker than the surrounding car. However, the clear is still tacky and none of it has been polished yet. I think after it sets up and gets polished, it will all look the same. The paint was actually lighter than the surrounding paint until the clear, so I think that is the culprit. I think, after it's all said and done, I was able to save it. The only problem is there surface is not perfectly smooth. Hopefully the heavy coats of clear will allow that to be smoothed out after polishing. No pics, as you can't see the difference in them so they'd be pointless and wasting my AF hosting space. It looks like it all may turn out roses, after all!

You could have went with a vinyl top too..;-)>
Yup, screwing up when you're 90% done sucks! I've got a Tamiya Porsche GT1 that has had 5 coats of paint (4 of them stripped and/or sanded away)!
While I'm not a fan of the design (or the wheel choice) the execution of the design and creation has been a pleasure to watch.
Many thanks,
Bill
