Did some considerable work on my S2000 over the past few days. Wish I hadn't. I am not happy with the progress a single bit. I'm trying to do something similar to the new front end the S2000 has, with a splitter and vents along the bottom edge like the concept the car was originally derived from. Right now It looks really fat and ungraceful. This car will not have the smooth, sleek, light look that I love the S2000 for. I hope it works out. The sideskirts will just be an extension of what the S2000 already had, I wish I done some careful sectioning throught the doors so the bottom edge wouldn't look so fat. The back is supposed to be a subtle diffuser like the NSX has and have the new exhaust tips peeking out. It's ok, but seems pretty heavy handed in my opinion, and doesn't really make and sense. It doesn't tie into the car at all. I should have just left the car like it was, with just the fastback. I feel like I've ruined it, but I'm just going to stick with it. I wish I could cast my fastback and resin and transfer it to a new body. And I think the wheels are too big. Anyway, see for yourself:

Front:

Back:

Poo. Better luck next time. I might just cut the bumpers off and use an untouched part from a spare body I have. That might save it.

Your s2k is good enough Will! Don't demand too much from it (joke)! Your works look among the best all the time. :iceslolan

I really like the back bumper, the front does look a little "overweight" for some reason. the rest is looking good though, and i agree go with some 17s or something not so big for wheels! good work keep it up!

03-30-2004, 02:18 AM
looking nice... but i agre about the rims... they are a bit to big.. but the rest of the car looks sweet!
I think if you makes the fenders wider the front bumper looks better then it does right now... but i do't say that it looks bad.
good luck!

Looking good! Maybe a bit fat looking from certain angles but I would stick it out as I'm sure that once it's completed it'll look way better.

Maybe that rear spoiler is too small for the rest of the car. I PS this up maybe it'll work? I dunno.

that is not a spoiler... is it? i thoght that was a line of the roof... i mean on the pictures of the real car it looks like it is the roof that ends down there...

I think it looks great..its not a heavy look, its a muscular look, the wheels set it off nicely, i think anything smaller would make it look too big

Thanks for the kind words, everyone, but if you saw the car in life you'd see how undeserved they are. All the mods below the belt are shoddy and not even very sensible. I will stick to these mods at least until they are ready for primer. They may grow on me, they may not. But I've taken it this far, I might as well see how far I can go... I may be able to salvage it after all. Probably won't be many updates for a bit, spring break is coming and I am going.

Thanks for lookin'.

It's been a while without any updates on this project, but I've been out of town and there isn't much progress to report. That May 12 deadline is coming on pretty hard, so I made myself have it ready for paint this weekend. If I can find some white primer, it will be. And thanks to the guys that chill on the front page, that looks like a safe bet.

Here are the colors I chose for the interior. No seats yet since I'm for some reason having trouble getting the paint to stick to the primer; the same stuff that I used elsewhere on the interior. Seats just aren't cooperating. Probably for the best, I ought to make the interior black with red seats, keeping the the R theme, but I really wanted to something that wasn't a black interior. With red seats.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/75086S2000Fastback15-med.jpg

Here is the body in the final check coat of gray primer. Hit 'er with some white, and she'll be ready to turn a pretty red. I'm mostly impressed with the body work I did, and it was certainly the most intensive aspect of this kit and the most body work I've done on any kit. I'm still pretty inexperienced here, so it took me a long time and a few retries here and there. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the result.

Constructive feedback requested. Zoomzoom? p9o1r1sche? CADguy? Ya'll got some good style and construction sense.... but I mean, ya'll ain't the only ones by any means.

Edit: Quick mock up with wheels. Keep in mind, it will be a beautiful red with an orangy, burnt tint.

RB26DETT-GTR (for a Honda guy like me your name is hard to type out....) the interior colors are Testors Dark Tan for the interior tub, like the carpet and all, and the details are called out with a shot of Testors Sand Beige, for all the vinyl and plastic parts. It turned out good since the tan was flat and the beige semi-gloss, so I didn't have to shoot anything over it to get it to look right.

jay - S3200 would be awesome! Wish I had thought of it. But then, I am not able to change the nice metal scripts Tamiya provides. I mean, erm, Honda didn't want to alienate the S2000 customer base, so they decided to keep the name the same....

I'm looking forward to finishing so I'll also be able to create Honda's development history for the car... like why and how they did it.

DJPaul... go for it? Just... the Eclipse is already a fastback, I'd make it topless if I wanted to change it up?

Just beautiful...if I could vote for a "best model of the year" so far this would be it! Great job on the panel line on the hatch. It just looks "right"
One thing got my attention...the cutout for the quarter windows are shorter than the door frame height(I'm not articulating this well),I'm trying to imagine making the cutout "flow" into the door frame. Nevermind, it's gorgeous :)

One thing got my attention...the cutout for the quarter windows are shorter than the door frame height(I'm not articulating this well),I'm trying to imagine making the cutout "flow" into the door frame.

I know exactly what you mean, when cutting the windows out I couldn't decide which way to go about it. But after considerable thought, and plenty of pencil drawings on the side of the car, I decided lining the glass up with the existing glass looked more appropriate than lining it up with the top of the door frame. If you look at the car directly from the side all the window glass (windsheild, rear window included) extend to about the same verticle height. If I made the window flow into the door, it would be quite taller and would've looked awkward in my opinion.

Thanks for the kind words, all. I realize naming names on the my post wasn't a good idea, there are too many people here who's opinions I all hold to great esteem!

I love you this place

What was that?

Go for it, S2000 is where it's at. You ought to come down to an autocross sometime and you'll see how balanced and unupsettable S2000s are. We've got one this weekend in fact, but I don't think I can afford entry fee... Broke willimo....

Quick update:

Engine bay mock up. She's ready to paint this weekend. Huzzah! Extra engine parts are from a 300Z... two kits goin' in the bin after this sucker.

I only got enough for a downpayment! I got about 12 or so grand in a locked CD account. Guess when Im ready, we'll see if the Honda H83R (aka ME) gets an S2k, or the GTO.

The engine bay looks awesome dude. Id like to see the battery in the back however, but, it is factory, so, whatever.

Paint! Hooray!!! The paint is Volvo touch-up paint, I've already forgotten the name of it. It's a tad lighter in life, and it glows in the sun. I would've just waited to post until after the clear was layed down and it was polished, but I had been fretting over possible paint reaction issues and... well I couldn't wait to mock it up and see the colors together. Clear will be sprayed later tonight, Toss up between TS13 and the clear Volvo provided... TS13 'cause I hate cleaning my airbrush or Volvo to do it right and avoid reaction. Anyways, have a look-see:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/75086S2000Fastback21-med.jpg

Edit: The Tamiya Spray Work Stand thing is absolutely great for using an airbrush. Spray can, not really, airbrush, yes really.

Nice color Will. I cant wait to see this thing polished up and real glossy. May I make a suggestion though? Silver, or Gunmetal rims would look sweet, if you want white rims why not pearl white?

this will be the best s2000 ive ever seen in my life. forget those roadsters, look at this fine fastback?? its even better with v6 engine. teehee. great job, dude. keep updating. cant wait to see it finished.

btw, u shud make a how-2 guide of how to scratch build something out of styrene sheet, ie: that fastback hood.

willimo
04-22-2004, 06:40 PM
It's gettin' there. Most construction is done. All that's left now are things that can't be done until the paint is polished and rubbers are painted. That will be taken care of this weekend. Oh yeah, and various details will make their way onto the car between now and then, like some underhood wiring, the A/C reservior, a little more detail painting under the hood, fuse boxes, and the exhaust system (though the underside is rather simplified; this is a "pretty from the top" model). The interior is done, too, though you can't see it in the pics. The front and rear sway bars have badging on them, I point this out because I used the ubiquitous "floor mat emblems"... anyone who has the Sakatsu S2000 photoetch would appreciate that. Excuse the crummy pics.
