I have a question, has anyone here ever raced a v6 mustang. If so did you win because i know someone that is always talking about his 2000 v6 mustang and how it will blow away my v6 2000 grand am SE. I dont know what the outcome would be so im just curious because i think i would be able to beat him. I just want to know if anyone has actually beat a mustang because i want to know before i go out there so i can blow the doors off him and shut him up for good. Also i have another question about motors and horsepower. Is it better to have most of your horsepower at lower rpm or higher rpm. And what are the advantages and disadvantages of this. Thanks

If he has a Manual Trans Mustang I think he will beat you. However it would be a close race.
To your HP ? : It is good to have a steady increase in HP along with engine RPM, Maxing HP out at the Shift point.

I believe that the v6 grand am is a little less as far as HP goes, so it's hard to say. If I had to pick someone to win, I would give the mustang a slight edge.

Dude youll smoke him. the v6 mustang is slow. i know alot of people that eat V6 mustangs for lunch in their grand am. I have a 97 grand am with the 2.4TC in it and your GA is faster and i can take a V6. So you should beat him unless he has alot of mods or something along those lines.

Its totally stock and is automatic. I think its time to put him in his place.

Go for it then! Should be interesting.

hp/ weight ratio is what matters. Nevertheless, laugh at him, cuz his mustang is missing 2 cylinders!

LoL indeed it is missing 2 Cylinders

the mustang will put out more horse, but you are lighter then he is and you will get him becaue i have a 95 and i got a v6 with my 3100...so good luck

its not always about weight, its about gear ratio weight drive and so on. but did you race this kid yet?

No I cant race him right now. Im not old enough yet. few more days, but i will let you all know the outcome. I think I'll win because ill have new SLP cat-back and possible new intake by the end of the week.

I raced a 5.0 mustang with my stock V6 Grand am and killed him 4 times in a row. I had 4 people in my car and the 5.0 had 2. Why did i keep winning , the guy was pretty peeved. Now i have it modded and i have beaten newer GT's as well. Interesting any ideas other than the mustang drivers werent good drivers? Cus i raced quite a few of'em and havent lost a 0-60 race yet.

urweak
02-05-2004, 10:42 PM
they probably didnt think they were racing. unless you have some heavy modds your couldnt take a new v8, they run somewhere in the 13s, and your GA sure has hell isnt running anywhere close to that maybe a mid to high 14 maybe. now the older stands werent that great so i could say maybe you won, but probably b.c the driver sucked, was it an auto?

Igovert500
02-07-2004, 09:09 PM
honestly, I don't think that the v8s are anywhere close to 13s. I have a 3000gt vr-4 twin turbo. That runs 13.5 stock. My friends 98 gt runs high 14s if lucky and mostly 15s. I would do a little more research. Because I don't think either of these cars would touch 13 or 14s without some/moderate mods.

Ok new mustangs have run close to a 14flat. Since you friend has a 98 should run a 15 flat like you said.

I raced him yesterday and beat him 2 out of the 3 times. Since my car is front wheel drive i was able to pull at the beginning. He was catching up to me around 3rd gear but it wasnt enough at the time. The time i lost, he cheated and got off the line early. Thanks for all the input and now he cant talk about how great his car is.

If your asking me Urweak , ive ported my intakes(throttle body , upper and lower intake manifolds) port polished my exhaust and put some headman headers on removed all exhaust pipe , cat , resonator and muffler put 2 1/2 pipe in with blue bottles (Single outlet), i also use the delco performance chip which proved only a 3hp gain at higher rpms but gained higher rev limits. I also use a Jet PCM to create an artifical stall in the transmission increases the air fuel mixture and I lightened the car by 50lbs. I use a home made ram air kit that allows twice as much air to ram the intakes as a gt and use only 91-92 octane fuel and once a month use penzoil octane booster and go for a long hard drive. My plugs are stock and wires are stock , fuel filter stock , stock rims , stock body , found LED after market spoiler (north american make , not euro) looks simular to a 96 mustang spoiler. I do frequent tune ups(once or twice a year) I have 138,000 miles on the motor and it runs way better than the day i bought it.
The only thing i HATE about my car is , the flipping AC pump is one loud and whinney lil bugger , been like that since i bought it at 20,000 miles.
The ac works good , is there a way to quiet it down URWEAK? If so let me know. Thanks.

The 2000 - up model mustang GT ' s run a qurter mile in mid 14's , but the car does have a high top end , its not even close to hitting 100mph in the qurter mile , consistently. How do I know? I work for ford lol and i drive a pontiac. Then again my car was weighed in at 2978lbs with a full tank of gas so i have a advantage there , i do have an auto but shift it manualy to get it to force shift changes at higher rpms , goes 50mph 1st 86mph second then 118mph theres a drastic stop it lacks in power after 105mph. i never tried a real hard core 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile race , just a freindly 0-60mph.
I kicked lots of gts asses once a 5.0 2guys in it they wanted to race and i had 3 passengers in mine and i still won. So your right , weight doesnt always mean anything. Sorry for such a long reply i did alot of simple work on this car and im really impressed with the results.

Personally i think this is bullcrap because i have a 94 V6 232ci 5 speed mustang and stock i ran in the high 15's on a stock motor with light weight reductions. And now i have a cold air intake with double silicone wires and platinum +2 racing plugs with a limited slip differential and a 9:0:1 compression ratio and with that alone i run in the mid 12's with drag radials and the before mentioned light weight reductions (stage 1) and soon ill have 150-shot NOS with a modified Greddy Dual exhaust system and thats when the hell breaks loose and i havent even mentioned the future turbo (16psi boost) So either way i can practically guarentee that if he knows how to drive and his car is in good condition your going down.

GTA_Mustang

Remember a 98 stock gt comes with way to restricted headers all he would need is a 5 speed and less restricted headers and your scared

well if you think your grand am is so big and bad gimme a holar and we can take this to the homestead motor speedway and ill show you a real race... And i forgot to mention that i also have a high flow fuel pump with high flow fuel injectors thanks to the guys at Greddy. And i use 93 octane fuel and when im feeling good ill use that good old penzoil octane booster for that 88mm throttle body compliments of the folks at edelbrook.

Meh, I'll just setup a race between you and one of the 12 second Old-school N/A Quad powered GA's.
You don't run 12s with simple bolt ons, geeze, Bosch Platinum 2's are hardly race plugs and even if they were they would get you 1 hp at the most, You double silicone implants....I mean wires are maybe a 1 hp upgrade if they are bigger than the stock wires. High flow injectors and fuel pump eh? well I hope you had a custom computer reflash or they're worth jack-Sh!t. Did you port match the intake manifold for the 88 mm TB? and did you port the heads so they could use the increased airflow? if you didn't, then the TB is also worth jack.

Final point is
Auto V6 Mustangs are slow and easily beat by a stock GA
5-speed V6 Mustang would result in a drivers race.

GTA_Mustang
02-24-2004, 08:33 PM
Ok for your information i think porting the heads and matching the manifold would go without saying and if u dont believe in simple bolt ons doing the job well prove it... o and by the way if u wanna get technical on plugs how bout i just drop in the old +3 splitfire plugs bcuz for you info i did the +2 platinum cuz i get a better daily driver.

Maybe we should direct him to Fbod or Killerquad's car, which one put the GA in the 12s for around $1000?

Anyway, I don't wanna waste anymore time on this troll, he can take his Splitfire +3's and pleasure himself with them (do Splitfire +3's even exist? I beleive Bosch makes the +3)

I think of the V6 mustangs as I think of the V6 Camaros, and Firbird. They are all worthless. heh. Unless you have done some serious stuff to them. Did You happen to Change the Fuel Press Regulater?? If not the High Flow Pump/injectors are doing NO GOOD. Waste of money!! You could have put an adjustable regulator on and probably go the Same results, if not BETTER.

achievasc92
02-24-2004, 09:00 PM
Yes I've heard of Splitfire and their gimicky products. The Platinum 3 (not +3) is not going to make any more horsepower than a stock replacement AC DELCO or Champion or Autolite plug. Actually no plug will make more HP unless you are running high boost or high shots of nitrous (which you aren't as of right now according to your post)

What else would you like to know?

GTA_Mustang
02-24-2004, 09:06 PM
O and by the way u dont need boost of Nitrous for an affect by the plugs since this type of plug is generating a straight clean spark avoiding spark bounce with a quicker detonation time now if u know about cars you know im rite... and im not talking about ne1's car just what the plug does so u know im telling the truth

GTA_Mustang
02-24-2004, 09:08 PM
yea i know what u mean... well im not sure how bout a 98 gsr instead?

Markgase2000
02-24-2004, 09:12 PM
i tried dual and 4 splits and i found no difference so i use single , although if you got agressive mods and nitro and an amped up fuel system then youll need a better plug , wire and fuel filter setup. just my 2 cents and my contrabution to off topics , lol.

achievasc92
02-24-2004, 09:13 PM
All plugs give a straight spark, take a physics class, the spark will always take the easiest route. How old are you 16?
Even with Nitrous or FI you don't need to run a different designed gimmickly plug just a colder ranged everyday plug. You do know that the spark from a copper cored plug is more powerful than the spark from a platinum plug right? In an everyday car the difference if negligible but its there if you wan to be technical.
I don't know anything about the GSR but if I were to guess then its most likely a mid 15 second car stock.

Man, we had that race on our little quarter strip, a 99' Grand Prix vs. a 2001 v6 stick mustang. The mustang was winning by a car length each time. Should be close though.

Markgase2000
02-24-2004, 09:32 PM
ok achieva , it makes sense because if even one split burns out and becomes shorter it will spark lower than the other one or two and it wouldnt matter if there was more still un burnt. cant believe i forgot that. any ways the more affective ones are the ones that can withstand the higher temperatures , right? i still only use the original speck plugs , wires and fuel filter from ac delco cus i tried the gimmick shit and it was "shit"

urweak , such hostillity from such a nice young man , lmao

Igovert500
02-25-2004, 10:15 AM
First of, achieva is correct, copper plugs are one step colder then stock plugs and they keep a stronger spark going(especially if gapped closer). If you are running any kind of high boost, you can have spark blowout with platinums or iridiums.

2nd, not to be annoying, but I'd just like to point out to urweak that neither mustangs or grand prixs are foreign. Grand prixs are made by pontiac...the same guys who made your grandam...maybe a different derogotory name(other then ricer) should have been used?

achievasc92
02-25-2004, 11:17 AM
Ricer really isn't used as a derogatory word pertaining to race or car origin anymore. Its used to describe ignorant, uneducated people that lie and degrade others cars without any fact to back it up. They also believe that simple stupid mods can net them insanely high hp gains when in fact the gains are neglegible.
Anyway the 99 Grand Prix was avaiable with the 3100 v6 in the base model so yes a v6 Mustang could take a 3100 GP but would have trouble with the 3800 powered GP and would be totally embarassed by the 3800 S/C GTP

no one ever said stock GA's are amazingly fast, I mean why else would they even bother racing a V6 stang LMAO. Seems to me you're the one wasting your time registering just to make one post.
Again, a 3400 GA will beat and auto v6 mustang, it will be a driver's race if the stang is manual.

Markgase2000

Stang guy , my 2000 grand am SE damn near keeps up with mustang GT's stock , Im sorry to burst your bubble. The V6 mustang manual or automatic does'nt touch me. You can say a manual mustang or automatic , but ford is finiky on there rev limiters for those damn cars and only allow a 4 grand max reving rpm for take off. I work for ford , i have driven the v6 , v8 , the 3.9 v8 thunder bird has bout 20 less hp than a gt and moves much much quicker than a stang v8 all through the gears and is auto. As for the V6 mustang beating the grand am gt , I dont have a clue I drive a SE sedan and know i have not ever lost to one. Come to Bud Park near the edmonton international airport in June and have a freindly race and find out. The ford focus Zx3 is almost as quick as the v6 if not quicker , and you can rev its rpms high at the start , I also am aware that the focus svt will beat a mustang gt stick to stick if you use the rpms wisely. I know alot about ford cars , i work on them every day. Dont get me wrong , the V6 looks better than the gt (scoopless) and has potential for power at the purchase of a chip to remove the limiters. But when its stock , its limited.

with all due respect...193 HP at the engine isn't exactly muscle. At the wheels, a mustang's 164 vs a GA's 149 (figuring 15% drivetrain loss...)isn't that much of a difference....

Come to think of it, a GT's 260 HP at the engine isn't exactly muscle either...go figure.
