It does sound like one heck of a project. I hope it really turns out well for you. I have always loved the Porsche 911 makes and models. When I was a young boy I had a 911 Matchbox car. It quickly became my favorite car to play with. Since then the Porsche 911 has been my dream vehicle. I have as yet to earn enough money to actually purchase one let alone afford to remodel one. Maybe one day. Until then I will have to settle for painting and building models of the car. I love the photos of the racing models by the way.

Yep, porsche are definitely cool. I love to note how such shape nearly never deeply changed too much since the 356´s.Had the lucky to drive some street ones, my fav. remains the old 993, also cause was the last one really small in size.newer modern are a little too big for my tastes.
it is the real and only, german sportscar.
And they can easy turn into very powerful racing cars. I love those versions, even more when they come from the past... ;)

Little update about this project in progress:
The car body will be casted and meant as a easy transkit based on porsche 934 tamiya kit.
The 934 has identical wheels and rims, and is also the last and imho best quality historical porsche on the market.
My transkit will be very easy: just the entire bodyshell I made here and the main rear wing, so special and quite hard to make from scratch.
To complete it u can probably use parts also from 935,even if the 934 is much nicer, today comes at a cheaper price online and has better wheels.I mention the 935 cause maybe probably of u already build it in the past and/or have it scrapped somewhere.
The final look of the bodyshell will be this one:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Bl3Zs2TodX4/VCRPE0rh8VI/AAAAAAAAjRk/w7KaINzU4qo/w690-h534-no/%5BUNSET%5D
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Z3Z5h9ob1ME/VCRQrbOLWXI/AAAAAAAAjSc/pZw1HTOv4PM/w1044-h511-no/%5BUNSET%5D
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-p-AOdy-jCBg/VCRRKgcHrHI/AAAAAAAAjSs/uEXncJx-Wuw/w900-h534-no/%5BUNSET%5D
of course many others historic racers 911's can be used. I dont mention the old fujimi enthusiast kits cause they are all OOP since long time and usually comes quite pricey online.
The rear wing aileron will be moulded apart and can be used also for other projects as modern replicas or rwb ispired street cars.
I plan to have a small first quantity for the end of this month, and the final price will be available only when I will have parts in my hands. My target is to have great quality at a decent price.
If somebody is interested in collect this special 3.0 RSR please PM me here or at my [email protected] webmail.
Decals can be even taker with minor modifications from 934 jagermeister car, or from the spare decals available from arena models. I took one in a recent expo for a bargain price of 10 euros.

Very good work Paolo!
Looks very smooth and clean.
Did the rear wheels from the 934 really fits under the massive fenders?
Any changes need?
regards
Christian

Hi Chris,
yep, the fenders have been reshaped in size from original giant dimensions from 935. asap will have the first testshots in my hands will show some pics. Did it on the master and was ok and realistic.
I am very optimist on the final quality of those resin copies. The first parts I've seen are impressive and very well done. Now want to see finally what arrives in my hands and how it will look after cleaning.
As said I mean this as a base for 934/935 and some adjustments can be done (there is a thicker resin part inside wheel arch).there are different models with different rims...Fuchs, bbs..the ones from 917's, so some adjustments can be easy done.
Note the production of this small transkit must be considered as a "garage model kit", so I think production numbers will be not so big.I will personally save soem copies for me. I like too much this brutal porsche of the 70s.
I am happy and surprised of the many messages I already got to pre order this car.The delivery to me must be around 20 oct, as from yesterday agreements

Dear Lovegt40,
Have seen the result of your P-body-work... Many hours gone with the swedish wind I think. Three points I have to remark on the first view...
1. The bottom line of the rear side window must be more twisting. The window seal you've glued on there is to straight and has the wrong shape.
2. Engraving of the front bumper should go to the end... The wheel house.
3. Rear wheelhouse on the right at the air-intake... The bodylines at the wheelhouse opening seems to be not parallel....
So, I think 3 points to do, to achieve a better model. Good luck.

its already in mouldings and a resin copy is already this one showed above.
All modellers can fix those issues easy by themself. its just a traskit.
Thank u for pointing it out.

some good news and some bad news.
The body finaally arrived. All what said before is confirmed. I am very satisfied with the quality of the cast.
Of course always remember we are talking of a garage kit (transkit),meant for experienced modellers. The resin quality is the same as plastic. It is nearly impossible to see differneces from the original body I used as master. Also rear wing is exactly as shown. I just got home and those for me are rushing days, cause soon I will return home to sweden for a long period.
SO everything I said before, including the fact of couse some minor gap filling and/or some little bubbles, must be filled in (very) few parts. Imho is anyway absolutely nothing hard to do, considering the unique car we are talking about. See those rsr bodyes all together is impressive . believe me.
The negative part:
Of course being our first attempt to make a bodycast there are some mistakes. Me at first: I didnt project the body to be casted, so the guy had a hell to make it all an in ENTIRE unique part. It was amazing to see how he did.
However of course the rubber didnt last so much, and the result is I have less than 20 cars available for sale.
I dont plan to recast it.
Tomorrow will post pics of some cleaned body with the tamiya original 934 wheels. They are (correctly) perfect for the issue.935 wheels result too big.
Price is confirmed as I said.It was already a miracle to keep it in this "dimentions".Who casts knows what I mean.

and here it is.
Resin is very soft and easy to cut/sand. It seems a plastic model more than a resin one. As said before I let some more material under wheels arch. Maybe someone wants to use different tyres or wheels so, of course and as all we know, some adjustment may be required.

How much is the kit alone?
the car behind is a Ferrari Dino 206 SP. I made a thread in the forum about her:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1011876
A real little cute wonderful car by Piero Drogo and Mauro Forghieri.I love such little beast done for hillclimbs,Targa Florio and the Ring.
Maybe yes, In the future I can cast it , but master still needs some adjustments, mostly at the rear.Winter will be long in sweden, and north sea bwind is my special fuel for all those porpouses.. :)
The RSR expedition price to USA is for 15 euros.I can mail theme only until next 30/10 from here.

made some other test with spare wheels I have around. Cause many project in progress, and many of theme are racing porsches, it was cool to fit different wheels under this rsr body.
It gives a cool idea of the "what if" car, even if historically they are all wrong,as you all wellknow.
I started with reneissance's bbs:

and then the modern BBS wheels from Mike. They are imho the nicest on her (remember anyway I placed Christian's 1/12 bbs on my vacum cleaner ,loving so much those kinda spocket wheels..) even also those last ones are historically mistaken, too big and wide for my body (but in fantasy model works..who careeeeeeees :naughty::naughty:)

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-x1JfD0nAo1I/VElyvZV_bYI/AAAAAAAAkEE/Yj-2JS5zHSU/w951-h534-no/WP_20141018_008.jpg
It gives a cool idea of the "what if" car, even if historically they are all wrong,as you all wellknow.
I started with reneissance's bbs:

Hello,
It's pumpkins'color's day today but my favorit, for the moment, is the Toblerone 3.0 RSR:naughty:

Pics of mine, seen in Spa Classic 2012
And for the 934, it's a red Georg Loos racing.
Any idea if Studio 27 released decals for the Toblerone one? Or may be other 3.0 RSR or deco scheme close to 934..?
Have a good Jaeger..!

time to test also my wheels inserts. For now I need some to complete (in the future of another life..of course:shakehead ) some bodies I have running around me. Those are BBS spocket 19 rims:

västkuststugan is a company making lovely pure swedish style houses in wood. I love too much those kinda houses.

It is a little challenge for me search proper documentation about their racing porsches. Just found online RSC website, and seems in 70s they raced 3.0 rsr, 935 and bmw 3,0 csl in this nice livery.

And this 3.5CSL, poooh!:runaround::grinyes: yes, I am in love!!
About that, is there a nice kit of the Bat-BMW?!
Tomorrow, it is Renaissance open doors, I will dream in live:lol2:

Lolo, yep, taht is the company making the decals. I suggest anyway to buy theme from the german guy selling theme in ebay (abc-shop.de) . he is much faster in delivery, even if a little more expensive.
Ps: bat bmw?, only an old arii kit with terrible wheels, or a much nicer and much rare batmobile done by marui :)

In the production of my bodies, some testshot were failed.
I will anyway not trash theme. we call theme "the cadavers" but u know..even if holed, unmoulded or destroyed, there is always a way to save part of theme.
So happens I kept with me one of the most damaged ones, not suitable for sale, and decided to try save it and make some cool experiments on the body.
The main problems seems were around the lower part of the mould, so had to rebuild in plasticard a big part in the rear lower bumper (double curved area, not so easy..)
So first of all I open completely the holes created by air bubbles, giving theme a squared shape and refilled with huge plasticard..

Now btw I have to stop for a while, cause my initial idea to use the 935 basic toy-ish chassis for this car cant go on.
I cutted all the car with the (foolish?..) idea to make , maybe, a full detail Jagermeister RSR, but the interior provided in tamiya 935 is too basic and mistaken in too many parts.
The cockpit for example has a great space for the 1.5 battery..that completely changes the real space in the car..ok maybe for a closed curbside, but no way to use it in a full detail model.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-SVlfRKbSCkY/VGC0nAEp4rI/AAAAAAAAmRU/VkW7Vj8XufA/w1216-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
as well as all the front and rear area are just plastics to close the lower part of the model, while I probably will take the engine, or part of it, from a fujimi enthusiast model 911s I already ordered time ago.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4TfAjhMeUTM/VGC0w1rkV7I/AAAAAAAAmR0/fh7jRPS3DWM/w852-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
probably I can also use part of some old esci 934 modelkit to detail the front part, cause in the italian kit it was anyway much better than the nothing provided in tamiya 935. The usage of the lower part of tamiya kit allows me to save the bodyshell for esci´s lower kit leftovers...
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LpZachVnxXg/VGC0uq8nfDI/AAAAAAAAmSY/g94S_qIZd2A/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
so, really all the main internal parts must be taken only from the newer 934, and all the measures fits even better. I am nowadays waiting another tamiya jag 934, but think it will need some weeks before arrive to Sweden, so for now the "vivisectioned" car can sleep well in her box..
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--ZogyT0pSio/VGC070LNgdI/AAAAAAAAmSM/bXUkF1ZhTu4/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
all this internal parts from the original 935 kit can be used only for a curbside model then, but this isnt a problem cause I already plan to make several versions using my "cadavers"..

eh eh, tahnk you my friends :)
I must study careful the pics, as I already asked to master modeller LucaC74 , about the detailing of this car.
Also the rollcages are different in some pics, even if I suspect some of theme must be replicars or modern clones of the 70s rsr.

Any idea if the green RSR raced in the passed days? Looks like a psyche Martini color scheme.
And nice cutting for the doors and other parts. It looks so easy!

I really have no idea Lolo.
Think yes, it can be a psychedelic porsche, but nearly surely she is a modern/historic racing ones (from the rims) like many others nowadays reusing marjuana scheme of the 70s :D

from her rear 935 biplane wing I think she should be also an IMSA or american racer. They made several copies of the psyche schema also in Cayman interserie cup, even if this RSR is imho a lot nicer and aggressive than caymans..

finally all the parts I was waiting to go on with this (of my many others..) rsr , are arrived from japan.
The base kit, tamiya 934 rsr, and the fujimi 911s enthusiast model. As I said before fujimi kits, are really nice, even imho never at tamiya level, and all the 911s body looks undersized to the 934, taking the windshield as referring part, usually identical on all 911 from 901 to 993.
the fitting of the rsr chassis needs of course some adjustments. I simply cutted away front pins and made a little round all the front end part. You can also cut and shape the inner resin part of the lower front bomper brakes air intakes.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1BxoPZ-YfTE/VJinSjqsIOI/AAAAAAAAouc/mj5ACB1TlOc/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
my idea, at this stage, is to fix temporally all the suspension area to make a general fit testing for overall setup. It is a crucial part in those knda models.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-sDEKypkITXE/VJinVg-r_AI/AAAAAAAAouk/b2lbBJ4U5f4/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4JuQaaN910A/VJinnqNGhHI/AAAAAAAAovM/OkBWymrowT4/w1125-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
the video I posted before about jägermeister engine shows that car has also 3 vents open in the rear bumper between exhausts. It is a part still to come..
SO, final setup remains a little higher on the rear, nearly as the setup provided in older tamiya 935. The problem can be easy solved simply sanding away some resin inside body in the area of the rear lights. There is a lot of material to work with, so no fear with minidrill...
actual setup:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-TTVDyi7CsWI/VJinpyluB3I/AAAAAAAAovU/rh-pKxwWS5w/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
and after..

then is time to cut away the engine part provided in tamiya chassis and start make it from fujimi block..
So strange also here nobody simply casted in resin this simple and beautiful part from models becomed so rare and so common in nearly all porsches..

little update with my sliced rsr :grinno:
Some fitments for the open parts between carrosserie and interior cockpit area, the same for the area around door lockers.
still dunno (any tip is wellcome) if place engine inside the back open of the car, or place it over a trailer. the one provided by fujimi for their rs is quite nice for the pourpose.

misteriously it seems tamiya provided a mistaken inner part for the side of the doors. They moulded on the black side of the cockpit something similar to the street door handles.. :sly: while correct one in 934 should be racers type lightweight..

misteriously it seems tamiya provided a mistaken inner part for the side of the doors. They moulded on the black side of the cockpit something similar to the street door handles.. :sly: while correct one in 934 should be racers type lightweight..

Actually, Paolo, the inner doorpanels in the Tamiyakit are quite accurate (they could have been a bit more "3D" though).
The 934's 3 litre turbo engine qualified equally to a 4-4.5 litre normally aspirated car in the Group 4 rules at the time, which in turn meant a minimum weight of 1120 kg. So Porsche didn't spend much energy weightsaving on the 934, they even left the electrically operated windows in! Look at interior pictures of the 934, you can see the buttons on the forward, upper part of the doorpanels.

Hello Paolo,
Nice job on the door window but be careful, it is too vertical (between the door and the rear window)(compare with the 934 door. Or with this one (sorry, I can not explain what I mean.)

understood what u mean lolo. will see if still possible change it a little bit. all area is fragile like hell.
Karl, dont u know if those rsr had a lightweight main front bonnet? I am going to make the nerves inside it, but seen many ones (probably modern racers) have the ultra lightweight one, that is basically, just a sheet of fiberglass, or carbon fiber.
I just found pics of the refurbished ones around.

The 934 RSR had a normally reinforced metal front bonnet.
The Carrera 3.0 RSR your building here had it in fiberglass, but I believe it was somewhat reinforced, they still used the hinges at the back, and hoodpins only at the front of the bonnet.
Keep up the great work!

New year eve is always a nice event.
and after 2 days I was able to go on a little with my jäg rsr
I choosed to change teh seat with an ordinary recaro (white metal spare), as well as the steering wheel I use is smaller Momo one coming from alfa 155 v6 ti from tamiya
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-YMIz-6daS-4/VKkvqcbG6aI/AAAAAAAApd8/3XK_Tp1fNqI/w1153-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-X1R6A77ITDk/VKkwMlG2mRI/AAAAAAAApfE/enXmSeSfKEY/w1168-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
for the type of complex assembly I need at this step to paint the parts, and detail the engine with some wiring
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-G0IRX2_0NNM/VKkvxjB_bOI/AAAAAAAApeM/tlIiyDbwwNE/w1016-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ZNlvH-YPxqE/VKkwEpvEtmI/AAAAAAAApe0/D8MPuRnEbH4/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
separate doors are also painted and polished. tamiya compounds are magical for this porpouses..
All model, inside and outside , has been painted with a preshading of dark/metallic grey, then painted with 2 layer of gunze light orange and then with the final Gunze acrylic H14. gunze colors are very nice to use imho.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NvzOnz_8hkU/VKnOpIBsM0I/AAAAAAAApo0/wRZQUbIzkKw/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
as well as I polished a little the main body before decal applying
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-yro-5oRHqhc/VKlgyrdAzhI/AAAAAAAApj8/WyVso0YzqAY/w1248-h701-no/%5BUNSET%5D
really dunno if start now the decalizing of the car. probably not, cause I dont have the complete set I need to use (tamiya 934 can be used at all, but some decals were different from 3.0 rsr..so need to check better what I have in italy)
..as well as I noted only now, I dont have here the rear wing of this car..LOL. need to fix it..
So I went on with the detail of the front bonnet. This car didnt had the hole on it,many other ones have such, but not this, so I closed that part and detailed the inner part. As karl said, in 934 turbo they didnt went so much lightweight, instead in those smaller ones surely they did...and the front bonnet was nearly surely reinforced fiberglass one.

This is an amazing thread. I somehow linked here while I was looking for an RSR kit, but am not satisfied with the body of the ones I am seeing... same as you. :-) Your modifications and skill are way out of my league and are quite impressive. Anyway, I joined the forum today to offer my compliments on your work (and the others that have contributed here). Really beautiful stuff.
I have not and may not ever take on this project and you're almost finished with yours... but I'd like to share some pictures that are out there (that I saw on a bicycling forum of all places) from a man (company) who specializes in period correct replicas of these ~70's RSR race cars. Hopefully these images will help with your project or others that go down this path... at the very least, they'll serve as some eye candy.
