This will be a quite long project.
My idea is to make a deeply surgeon to some different bodies and obtain the racing 911 3.0 rsr carrera from 1976. Imho one of the nicest bodyshape of the 911 of the past.
I will not consider the Arena model already in commerce.Wanna see if I can be able to finish something more convincing to my eyes, and maybe cast some resin copies of it,probably for the nicer 934 recently done by tamiya.
Will start convert it from tamiya 935 body.
This is my first model in a different working location than mine usual one (sweden). all is new here, starting from my usual tools.Seems easy but is always a challenge when u are not with your usual stuff.
pics coming soon (mobile ones). hope u like the project.

thats ecaxtly my idea ! :D
I just dont have the front end aircope and spoiler from fujimi rs. The revell ones is straight and completely mistaken in lines, shape and dimension, so there´s no use for it (nearly no use for all the kit imho...being also 1/25..).
Probably will leave the engine bay open, this to suit the many rear spoilers this car had and have also in modern replicas.
Have a fine ducktail here also, will see if there is/has been any use of it over those rsr, or if it is just an rwb crazy look (too cool) idea.
The bodyshape I will keep is also taken from study of esci rsr turbo, completely poor in details, bud bodyshape not so bad at all.Surely the next upcoming project.
I just noted how dramatically changes immediately the line of the 935 when I replace on her the original high frontlights from the classic 911 shape. Dunno really why in 80s they dare to porpouse the flatnose cars. It is definitely missing the soul of this car...

Hallo lovegt40,
Looks were working on the same again!
I'm also working on a body the same like Marmotte made. It's his idea I copied. ( to make some decals for)
I haven't posted any pics from it yet , because I don't want to steel someone's idea.
If it's fine for Marmotte I'll post some pics soon, but modelling is very poor at the moment.
My plan is to make the Toblerone car like driven LeMans .
The body is already red, waiting for it's second colour.
Michael from ScaleProduction has the RS front bumper in his shop.
Great project.

Hello guys,
Joka, no problem .. post pictures ... it's just an idea ... all passionate about the same thing you are so it's normal to have the same projects.
Like I said, I have other projects in progress ...
And then see your work can motivate me and will be 3 people on the same kit that can be useful ..

thank u all guys.
Right now I am getting mad with my new windows phone. file transfer is not so easy as before with my dead iphone.Ok will try fix it, even if I deeply prefer work on my models than fix pc/mobile issues.
Positive point is this nokia should make good pictures, even if I am working in my under roof dungeon corner pointed directly to north sea... :)
Before ask Mike for the front RS front spoiler will try make one using the nose of the 935.Tamiya made a quite bad model of her (suspect the roof is way too large compared to other models around. this should be the part identical to all other 911 around). I compared it to Esci rsr and gionc attept/fujimi clone. the windshield is definitely too wide, and suspect there is no way to make it perfect starting from the 935.
Positive is 935 has a real thick hard plastic. is a pleasure sand cut and refill it to correct shapes.
About rear wing I still did not decide. will be cool leave it open.I think Marmotte made it starting from the 935 wing (thats a too nice wing used by many other porsches) and tamiya made it in a very nice shape.
Think can be easier for me make the rsr rear wing startin from an esci/heller 934. have 2 of theme, and after tamiya model there is less way to love theme any longer as kit...
another issue will be about rims. From nearly all pictures I have it seems they use porsche 917 rims. Have some spare and I mean to clone theme.Looks much ore fitting than original 935 tamiya wheel.

My rear wing is the fujimi 3.0l, and the "black plastic" (don't remember the origine) is enlarged.

About rims: 15' and wide: rear 14' and front 10.5'
I use Renaissance BBS 15' 936 for the moment, but i find front wheel too small.
Can you measure 917 rims please?

consider everytime I will be frustrated by not coming results I will return at the first picture place. sailor here. the seeing of the north sea is a needing...no tibet, no religion. just sea.
some surgeon also over tamiya body:

this is what is left of gionc body. also i took away the detail of the engine bay.will reuse theme for rsr

the very useful razor blade is spare from this incredibly nice plane from hasegawa. My first love is planes. I never post theme here cause is automotive. who is interested can find me in britmodeller forum with all my works. Thank u hasegawa btw .. ;)

The blue SBD had a full PE set for the ailerons airbrakes. It was the nicest box in 48th scale on the market at the time. Then the american Accurate Miniature (now Italeri moulds) SBD come (it is the yellow wing model).I like too much this Us navy plane...

looking the different body I have here I noted anyay tamiya roof is a little bit oversized. This is another mistake I found after the build of my 935/76 squared tail.At the time I just noted the front flatnose flares were too little compared to pics and to their model in 1/12.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-XZeP2CeLm20/UNTgXfJ8HcI/AAAAAAAADz4/l3N3XcZGkus/s800/SDC19385%2520copy.jpg
model here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1082245&highlight=935
so now I also found roof is a little out of measure:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Xl9qfnf9sdY/UpXdBix8zBI/AAAAAAAATbM/o0GwrJ7GA0c/w1174-h659-no/WP_20131126_003.jpg

picture is not clear, but is oversized of at least 3/4 mm on the top upper part. Fujimi/Gionc and esci rsr turbo are much more in shape.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iHwLZ_HAGZA/UpXdG5LouXI/AAAAAAAATcY/T-PAKK-BLkA/w1174-h659-no/WP_20131126_012.jpg
here u can see the high front lights already in postion. also they come from the surgeon of the resin blob
time also to consider the rear wide of tamiya body. I just noted they took the size..
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lc9Ue9K6UEE/UpXdHbKlRRI/AAAAAAAATcU/shA5Q-IPWYo/w1174-h659-no/WP_20131126_013.jpg
but as u can see what is not correct for rsr 76 is the external side of the rear wheel fenders. In the 935 they cover part of the tyre.shall be cutted away such part:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4ER_JNTPqjM/UpXdHffa5QI/AAAAAAAATcg/rHLjX8e6bIo/w1174-h659-no/WP_20131126_014.jpg
now I need to return at picture 1 and see a little more of my northsea again (windstorm and a lot of post from UK arriving soon..:)). brb later guys... ;)

coming back to the RSR, does anybody know if those cars (originals) had the 11 vents on the rear windshield? From the pics I found many have and many dont have. suspect some can be replicas, as the wonderful one I´ve seen racing in historical races in monza last summer. If anybody knows better than me any tip will be appreciated. think I still can fix theme on this body:

@ Jesus : thank u my friend. will try to make my best ;)
@ Lars : Yes my friend. I am here, and I am also a victim of Glogg and Xmas BIG preparation. In other words, also I am changing all house stuff and fixing nice light stars in the windows.Too nice the waiting of adventum here.:)
coming back to the RSR, does anybody know if those cars (originals) had the 11 vents on the rear windshield? From the pics I found many have and many dont have. suspect some can be replicas, as the wonderful one I´ve seen racing in historical races in monza last summer. If anybody knows better than me any tip will be appreciated. think I still can fix theme on this body:

Another Porsche project to follow - excellent!
Regarding the rear window top vents, I'd have to say they're definitely a period feature. I've got a single photo here of the Peter Gregg / Brumos RSR in 1975 and they're clearly visible. They're also on various 934's, the original 1976-spec 935's, and both 935-78 shells also have them.
Maybe the top vents were changed on later 911 shells (sometime in the 80's, perhaps?) which might explain why some of the 'replica' cars don't have them now?
Either way, looking forward to seeing this one continue.
All the best,
SB

I got a similar idea speaking of RSR surgery... than I took the shortcut offered by Arena :D, I'm not sure Arena shape is 100% accurate BTW, mainly in the front fenders area: RSR front fenders are really ugly and rough, anyone would smooth em down to do the pair with the awesome back fenders: so the goal in this project is to do orrible front fenders...
Airfix RSR (those with the "box" styled back) has orrible fenders enough :D
For my shelf I'll live with a great designed smooth front fenders :D
Don't remind me the Gr4... worst business in my life.... water gone...

Hello Lovegt40,
I have to correct you about the Loos RSR, the vents are there!
The picture you posted is taken at Rennsport Reunion, a friend of me was there and took pictures for me.
It's a picture taken from the back of the car.
I even think the Wally's Jeans RSR has them.
They are not clearly visible because the mesh inside is sprayed body-colour?
Regards,
Joka-1

I have two Arena kits, the kits are quite good, but the bodys are toooooo wide with
~87mm in the rear, I think the base kit for the Arena was the Heller 934 ?
I started to build my RSR 4-5 months ago, but with another body, as transkit for the Tamiya Turbo or 934RSR

would love to see also your models guys, as marmotte did. Nice to see this subject gets u too.It is a nice car, definitely.
About arena model:
I dont wanna blaime or talk bad in any way of theme.I never had in my hands, for real, the rsr in 24th scale. Just seen her already build in pictures and had the opportunity to see and admire their RSR in 1/43 scale. Those little ones are gorgeous.
But from the pics of the bigger sister I´ve seen online (ebay mostly) it seems to me the angle between the flared wheel arches and the rest of the body is a little bit too sharp and evident, mostly at the rear:
http://www.arenamodelli.com/2011/ARE-577-24.jpg
as well as I am not so sure those rsr used so often the BBS RS wheels as displayed in nearly all arena models. Those are just my personal considerations. The models probably will look anyway good and the price they sell it is absolutely good and competitive, being a complete model, and even more if compared to some other TK models on the market...
They are also very very kindly people to modellers. This thing is quite rare today both in virtual and in real....
This said,it is absolutely the best (and only way) at today to have the RSR 3.0 in collection.Maybe not in Jägermeister livery, being too similar to many others already seen.
Plz. correct me if I said something wrong.....

Thank u my friend.
As well as from SB magic hands tip, I will listen and modify the 935 bodyin such detail. It is definitely a part visible in nearly all historical and in many modern replica ones.
Now also I have another question:
what do u think about the rear air intakes showed in the lower part of rear bumpers? In many pics I see theme (as in many pics I posted here before). For sure the little rear one on the upper metal fenders is always present, the other ones on the plastic around exhausts I dunno really. They look pretty cool detail too, and I like to saw saw saw... (cit. Sascha :D).
I still dont have in mind any precise livery version of this RSR, have only the idea (maybe, depending from my time and price) to make it as a Tk body and wheels only for the nicers model on the market, mostly tamiya 934, without considering the old rare and extremely expensive RS - EM from fujimi.

For the rear air intakes, it's like you want.... If you love to saw and saw and saw...
In my case, I prefer without.
Look at this page: http://www.pbase.com/slidevalve911rsr/911rsr_factory_cars_1974
It only remains for you to choose the chassis number

so, lets update with some pics of the actual work in progress:
The rear fenders have been shortened, so i cutted 2 mm each side of theme and add some milliput to create structure inside. I deeply love the british milliput. It is coming from the old school tools. It is an old, incredible performing putty.Think its origin was to fix home radiators element.

correct rear RSR fender.Esci body (and body only..) was not so bad at all..

the same needs to be done to fix front fenders.

then I had to cut the 935 front spoiler and save the fw air intake. shape is correct.Wanted also to save the 2 holes cause inner shape was real nice. No way for the RSR front end (what I call the "classic RSR"). will anyway save theme 2 coming from the 935 cause is a detail mistaken in the easi 934. If u have such kit u´d probably noted they have been moulded squared inside, while in tamiya more recent 934 it is correctly rounded.
So, after some Glogg, some very good Scottish whisky, some italian Cadolini honey grappa from deep up in the Alps, a LOT of suppa (inte suppatorsk !...),liters and liters of swedish beer AND kilo-liters of italian vino rosso di puglia...here we are...

Brrrrrr..!!

Ok, sorry, I did not realize that you were in the 2 to work.
... And also sorry for my bad english (I'm help me with the Google translator)
In fact, the second body made from Love Gt already seems better but if use the rear fenders of the 935 is not correct (the 935 was equipped with the much larger diameter wheels).
The wing is made from Marmotte sees eye is wrong.
Look well to this surface between the large and the small grills and you'll understand.

I have two Arena kits,..... but the bodys are toooooo wide with
~87mm in the rear, I think the base kit for the Arena was the Heller 934 ?
Mike
remembering this phrase I measured mine. Right now my size is 83mm at rear. Hope it can match little better..

So, lets see what happened with the wing:
marmotte hope to help me , so he sent here from France the rear plastic wing (think cutted from the heller 934).
The french post did the job in time and in 3 days I got it as promised. Unfortunately it arrived smashed. I took a closer look at the part, but something, as pointed out from my arena friend was not marching.I decided to save the SC rear wing anyway AND reshape it starting from the larger 935 rear wing.
the 935 has indeed a cool rear wing I plan to use maybe on other models. The high wing is always nice, and as redwine nearly mtches to everything...

so during my sawing session I will be careful in destroy the part not to be used if I wanna save part of it.

You are an artist Paolo... Love your bodywork.
For the chassis, which kit you plan to use? A fujimi's enthusiast?
p.s. Merry Christmas

eheh, really thank u George. Artists here inside are others. I am still planning 4ex how to stole that british hands making stuff in 1/8 :D.
Really happy u appreciate my efforts :)
My idea is to use this body over the nicest and most recent model available of the racing porsches, the tamiya 934.
It is also the cheapest around (we living in south europa CARE a lot about prices right now..).The interior shall be similar racing one, as well as wheels are probably perfectly suitable too, even if I cant still test it....and the decals too. Also this RSR was very famous in orange Jagermeister livery, even if now I am in love with toblerone car...:D
btw for whom wanting to use another base, I let the rear engine bay opened for now, using also there another part coming from the surgeon of the SC in resin used at the beginning.
Just basic detail probably never to be used (there is the needing to build the special 3.0 engine with all its carubarators...maybe only from fujimi very rare EM model kits.)
A lot will depend anyway from the 2words I have to share with my italian caster when I will be back there.I pretend a decent quality at a resonable price, after all the terrible stuff I bought around at stellar prices..:(

Hello,
finally some pictures from the model I'm working on.
Last week I managed to get the second colour on the model.
( I'm not very happy with the result, a lot of dust in it, let's hope it will be OK after sanding )
I'm working on the decals now, and I'm rebuilding the rear wing, it was to small.
Still a lot of work to come on it.
Regards,
Joka-1
