I was coming home from Hot Import Nights in Philly on the turnpike and my friends wanted to see how fast my car could go. I usually dont drive crazy with passengers, but they all wanted me to. I hit 135 with a full car. I slowed down cuz it was gettin a little too nuts for me...

I ran my mustang up to 150 before I ran out of gear (3.55's with a C6, 7K redline) but with my new 4L80E it has enough gear to do 200, but I don't think i'm ever going to go that fast :tongue:

In my civic I still have the stock LS tranny so the gears are pretty wide, but winding out to the top of third I took it to about 115. Might swap my quaiffe into a GSR tranny to help keep the turbo spooled on the highway though.

My 1990 Honda CRX Maxed out at 168 MPH last week, but i just took off my JR Supercharger, and installed a stage 4 turbo, so it should do better this time :) Anyone wanna race 1/4 and top speed? :D

I have a question regarding gearing and top speed. ok, if the gearing just multiplies the revolution of the engine to the wheels, in 5th gear, at 0rpm, the car would go 0 mph. and at 7500, my fuel cut, Id be topped. so at 3750 in 5th gear if im going 90, does that meand I got enough gear to go 180?

some cars have long enough gears to go very fast without hitting the rev limitter but will not have enough power to reach that speed....they simply cannot outpower the air friction

oh, i know my car dont have enough power to get there, doesnt even have enough to pass 114, well, maybe like gaining 1 mph every 10 miles after 114. but someone questioned that the gearing would even let 168 come. so I was wondering if I was wrong in thinking that if i had the power, 180 would be my top speed?

What RPM are you at when you are at 114 MPH?

well, I gotta go do it again cuz I dont remember, but I know I had lots of gear left.

I get my license reinstated as soon as my check for the fine that I payed to the island county collections agency or whatever its called clears. they recieved it this monday so pretty soon ill have it, and then ill go out and try it, Id imagine somewhere around 4500-5000.

Thats wierd, because 5K would be right at your peak torque level and thats where it should pull that hardest. I guess your engine just doesn't have enough power to push against the wind.

Yeah, same thing happens to me. I'm somewhere around 6 grand at 130 but that's just all shes got.

yeah but were talking about the peak torque level of a 13 year old 1.6 liter flowing through a homemade plastic intake, stock manifold and like 1.5" exhaust (whatever a CX comes with stock).

I still plan on semi rebuilding it and slapping on my turbo, then I am gonna go out and hit 180:lol:

yeah right, I still wouldnt have the power, or the aerodynamics, but hopefully 140 will come that will be faster than ive ever gone before(138 is my old record)
