I got an auto and it revs to the 1/2 mark before redline and shifts, only when I floor it though, I haven't got it past 90-95 mph I ran out of room to keep going, I feel like it go to 110 maybe 120...maybe....

no offense, but if you got a 2000 civic EX auto, I dont think you are hitting 11-120 anytime soon.

I had a 94 RS, so I had no weight of moonroof/AC/CC which probably doesnt save too much weight, but had intake, DC 4-2-1, and exhaust and had a whole freeway and once I got to about 110, it slowed way down and i hit 117 but tookreal long, couldve gotten 120 with lots of room, but didnt.

and I know autos gears are longer but a 5 speed has more of them, so maybe your OD and a 5 speed civics 5ths are the same, but I think yours might be even higher and thats nmot good trying to accelerate from 100+ and dont quote me but I heard that an automatic steals like 5-10% more power at the wheels.

It's mostly the torque converter that make an auto trans top out early. The TC slips about 1000+ RPM more than a manual trans. So if you are doing for example 80 in a 5 speed and it's doing 3000 RPM, in an auto it's doing probably 4000 RPM, gearing assumed the same of course. But the overdrive on a 5 speed is higher geared, but the main difference is the TC.

holy runon sentence batman
You're comparing a 94 to a 2000, of course it's going to be slower. I could hit 125 in my 97 DX coupe, and about the same in my current 00 DX hatch (with its original D16). They are both 5 speeds, but still they have less power than an EX.

120+ in a 1991 Accord Ex auto on the way to lunch during school last year. I had a picture of the speedometer but I can't find it right now. I also have a picture of the whole car about a foot off the ground going of a sort of 'jump' in the road.

Gradyman25

the reason i said i didnt have the balls was cause the place i was doing it was right before some major road construction, and i was topping a hill where cops usually sit, so i decided to shut it down before i hit the limit

i hit 128 why though i dont understand my car should be fast than that well i thought i think its because i need a intake tube to the air box.

00accord44
07-16-2003, 02:57 PM
This is before or after your b18 swap???

Intake would help. Basically anything to help the engine breathe better in the top end as well as your gearing.

YOUNGSTER
07-16-2003, 03:12 PM
after , it picks up to 120 quick than it hesitates

00accord44
07-16-2003, 03:22 PM
That's gotta be a breathing problem. Even if you change your high end gearing, but if you ain't breathin right, you won't go anywhere.

This is where the fun of tuning comes in. not a lot of people really concentrate on their top speed as much as their 0-60 and 1320. I guess cuz figuring out how to raise your ceiling is a bit harder than figuring out how to jump higher off the floor.

156 in a 97 Grand Prix stock hitting the rev/speed limiter burried the analog guage and was only reading on the HUD.

115 in a 84 VW rabbit convertible with the 1.8 GTI motor scariest 115 mph of my life!!!! It would of kept going but i did not trust the suspension setup or tires or motor ect... lol

131 in my current 96 Teg but it would've kept going but the roads in texas where I was at suck and did not trust my tires to hold up to those potholes at 131 mph.

gti1689
07-20-2003, 10:56 AM
before i took away my gti's limiter i could only get up to 130 (ovbiously b/c thats when it kicked in). now that i've taken it off i've done 140, b ut i stopped b/c of traffic and the engine seemed to be closing in on its top speed (had 2 shift from 4th into 5th at around 135). damn good for a stock 174hp vr6 with a chip (add bout 10 crank hp for the chip, so we'll call it 184hp. there)

YOUNGSTER
07-22-2003, 12:59 AM
it is a breathing problem i have the stock air box but not the intake tube so the throttle body is sitting there unprotected but prolly tomorrow im gonna go to a wrecking yard to pick up a stock gsr intake pipe

00accord44
07-22-2003, 10:07 AM
Sounds like a good idea. If your pocket allows, you might as well get a little more room to breathe and pick up a full intake system from AEM or somebody.

My Jeeps speedo only goes to 85 but I got it back to 0, so ~115-120 maybe? It felt like it could have kept going but the suspension started getting squirlly. That was with my long ass ratios with the 3speed w/ OD AW4.

I got to 120 on the highway once being real late trying to get back to a paintball tourney my team was playing in. :D being teh leader typically means you have to SHOW UP.

while cruising 120 my friend yelled cop. sure nuff he was sitting on the side of the road i though for sure that was it... jail time. I slow down, he pulls out and i thought he was going to chase me down. Instead he went across all 4 lanes on the highway and kept going. I shit a brick. Never went over 85 for at least the next 8 months.
