Talking My Little Rally Car Collection

Just to prove that I'm not just going to bother you guys with questions only, here's some input...

The models (from left to right) are:

1. Tamiya 2000 Peugeot 206 WRC (24226)

2. Tamiya 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 (24054)

3. Tamiya 1998 Subaru Imprezza WRC Safari (25205)

4. Tamiya 1998 Toyota Corolla WRC (24209)

I like to model (mostly) current Rally and GT cars, but I have some F1 and road cars in my stash to build.

The Corolla was a bit of a hash, so I decied to use it to practice weathering. I overdid the mud a bit, but also used it to practice masking active windscreen wipers, which I feel turned out okay.

If anyone's interested, I'll redo the steps and post pictures...

Regards
Mark

Err, just the Tamiya Ferrari F1 2000 (20048) :o

Bought it before the clearview version came out.

Had a bazzin' idea of buying the clearview model and painting one side, but not the other. Kinda wished they'd made it in clear rather than red though.

Still contemplating buying it, but that idea has put me off building the normal one I have in my cupboard.

Wanted to buy some Studio27 Marlboro decals to finish it off too, but all these things put together mean that (probably) this model won't even get started

HA! That's a joke! We are more than interested! We DEMAND info and pics!!!

I like the od rally car too, and Steve Gibbins, who also uses the baord and is just up the road from me, is a massive rally fan, with a good collection!

Is the Toyota the Monte version? If so, the weathering is spot on! If it's the Catalunya rally version, then perhaps you did over do it a bit!

We are always interested in views on the builds and any hints/problems overcome!

In that case, it's way overdone. (Catalunya).

At this early stage - 12 months modeling - I tend to focus more on getting the models to look good and on the finish (particularly the bodywork) rather than on their authenticity.

When I feel they look good, I'll move onto making them authentic.

(I even got the driver and co-drivers names onto the wrong seats on the Peugeot 206, *and I call myself a rally fan*)

I follow the posts in rec.model.scale on a regular basis, and the flame-wars that start on there when someone posts incorrect information astounds me.

That's what I appreciate so much about this forum, even flaming is done in a friendly manner!

We are not bothered about technical aspects here, we just appreaciate each others work! Especailly the guys that manage to finish a model! (As you know, so many things can stop that!)

It's a shame your not being happy with the outside of the model didn't coincide with it being the Monte version, where the snow and slush can make a car really mucky!
From what I can see of the Corolla, it does look very authentic in that respect! Damn that Spanish sunshine!!!

Flaming on a model site? Crazy!

Thats a nice collection of models you have there.

As Dan said we never have flame wars here as we all seem to get along by asking question and by learning from each other.

Keep the pics and info coming

Usenet blows!

Your rally cars look great, man. Good job!!!

As for the Corolla, call it "modeler's license!" You can get away with a lot by saying that!

And I'd like to hear (see) more about your GT cars, since that's what I'm focused on at the moment.

...Like I said, I made a hash of it, and decided to use it for practice. I practiced "weathering" it, and learned that a little at a time is the best method for applying weathering, and I also practiced "windscreen wiper-blade masking" which I am quite proud of...

Currently, I have yet to build:

Tamiya Toyota Sard Supra (24167)
Not yet started, only painted inner wheel-rims in metallic blue (again, for practice - in masking circular objects).

Tamiya Loctite Zexel GT-R R34 (24225)
In need of stripping and restart of bodywork (see post re: Castrol Super Clean).

Revell Corvette C5-R (07221)
...Just lost momentum on that one...

Revell Dodge Viper GTS (07375)
Not Started

Tamiya Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM 2000 Team D2 (24234)
Not Started - Not strictly a GT, A DTM, but close enough - Now I want the newer release with the exploded bonnet/hood design.

Other cars yet to be started/finished are mainly Rally models with a few road cars thown in to add a little spice...

Regards
Mark

I did the Monte Impreza of McRae's after spectating the Network Q rally a few years ago!
great fun and really enjoyed it! I also have the Corolla on the go at the moment, just needing detail touches to finish it!

Wow!

I bought my digi-cam because I wanted to do things like this.

(Apart from the odd photo of my growing daughter, but that was just the *excuse* I needed to buy the camera)

I can see where I need to focus now (no pun intended).

Trick-Perspective really makes a good model excel...

Apart from the models listed previously, I have another 2 Rally Imprezas - Tamiya Toshi Arai & Hasegawa 1984 McRae, (3 if you include the 2001 STi WRX road version), 2 more Tamiya Peugeot 206 WRCs (1999 & 2001), a Tamiya Rally Mini and a Hasegwa Colin McRae Ford Focus to either start or in various stages of completion.

I might finish another one soon. (might)

You'll need a Macro button to get as close as that! Go for an aperture of around 11+ if you can too!
Look through the gallery to see my other close ups!
I am slowly getting the hang of it now!

I like to model (mostly) current Rally and GT cars

How do you like this? It's a resin kit (which I suppose very expensive)
but Hasegawa also have it in plastic
