R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
Hi All,
Here are photos of my fantasy R34 GT-R Skyline. My idea was - what if Nissan/Nismo did a factory backed tarmac rallying campaign? I thought an obvious sponsor would be Sony, with a Gran Turismo tie in. Basic colour scheme is based on the works Nissans of the mid to late 80's. Overall I am very happy with the build and result. I used one of the Aoshima R34 Nismo kits as the base. Stripped the interior and added a roll cage. Used the wheels from a Tamiya 307 WRC and added Crazy Modeller seatbelts. All decals were home printed, other than the white "Nissan" and windscreen strip. The door numbers and number plates are close to what the cars used in Targa Tasmania of 2008. Other than that it is pretty much out of the box - my first experience with Aoshima and quite impressed. I have another Targa car in the works - this time a WRX. Also thinking of adding a 350Z to the Nissan "works" team. Or perhaps something a bit older, like a 240Z? Grant. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With my other Skyline builds of the same time: ![]() Amongst my display shelf: ![]() |

Re: R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
I like it, the decals came out sweet. I think different wheels would suit it a little better. That reminds me, gran turismo should be out for ps3 soon. Can't wait, that game motivates me even more to build models, but takes up all my model time.

You mean this wasn't a real car? Looks convincing enough to me.

Re: R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
I think it looks really good. The red bonnet is very striking and overall the decals and colours work well together. I would've thought there was a real version too as it looks fab!

Re: R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I have to admit this is one of my favourite models now, simply because my original idea eventually came to life almost exactly as I envisaged. A few minor quibbles, e.g. should have added black surround to the headlights, but overall happy.
Wheel choice was restricted by what I had that was "rally" in look, tarmac spec, and would fit Aoshima hubs. I picked the red/white/blue colour scheme before realising the GT logo was a perfect match. I managed to find the correct sponsor logos for the door number plate on the Targa Tasmania website, so that helps it look genuine, and the front/rear number plates are close as well. Cheers, Grant. |

Re: R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
Very nice! The colors remind me of the BRE racing Datsun 510's. How about a BRE liveried Skyline?

Re: R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
Hey Rennsport,
Thanks for the comment. The colour scheme was directly "inspired" by the liveries of the works R31 and R32 Skylines that ran in the Australian Touring Car Championship in the 80's and early 90's - the era that I watched growing up. Come to think of it the earlier Bluebird of George Fury also had the white body / red bonnet / blue boot scheme I think. I guess a lot of factory backed Nissan and Datsun racers hsd this basic scheme in the 70's and 80's (like the 240RS rally car) so I suppose you could say I indirectly inspired by the BRE 510's! Grant. |

Re: R34 Skyline GT-R Targa Tasmania
Very interesting idea! Though I feel the back looks a bit bare? Maybe put a fuel cell in there? Hope to see more models like this!
