VW Golf V 4x4

Finished this a while ago but now decided to show this here. Base is Fujimi Golf V GTI but I modified it to some kind of SUV. Model was made for theme class in our annual "FCMA Open" model car contest. Last years theme class was "AWD vehicles".

First I painted body with Tamiya Olive Drab and fitted a bullbar.

Thought that idea might work and continued. Started to search suitable 4x4 chassis that would not need much work to fit Golf body. Eventually I got hold of Tamiya Isuzu Vehicross kit. Only needed to add 1cm piece and lenght was good. Gas tank was moved forward, exhaust, struts and axels also needed some work.

Interior is almost box stock, only added floormats. Painted with Olive Drab and semi-gloss black.

Rims I also took from Isuzu kit, tyres found from scrap-box. Bullbar was originally 4-light set for Scania truck which I modified to narrower 3-light. Head- and taillights painted to "black-look".

Finally some pics of completed model:

There is many flaws on paint (especially in interior), and those metal axles in chassis, that bothers me. But didn't have enough time or patience to fix them all.

It looks a little bit strange for the 1st sight, but the idea is cool and the execution is well done! Congrats!

Well... that's definitely a less eye-hurting shell you put on that ISUZU chassis

The idea is great and definitely my cup of tea. Execution is OK, but you could have done more to add to the 4WD look, for example by adding fender skirts, meatier rubber and a flat black bumpers. Thinking outside the box often creates stunning models. Give it some dirt and it should look convincing.
