96 Civic HX o2 Sensor Replacement....
Just trying to inquire if there is anything I should know. Car has check engine light and the code it's spitting is for the o2 Sensors. I bought 2 universal ones and am just going to replace them both. Just wanting to know if there is anything I should know. This is merely my "beater" car and really don't put much time or work into it and am not that familiar with everything on it.....not as much as my other cars anyway. Thanks for any help.

Re: 96 Civic HX o2 Sensor Replacement....
The primary O2 sensor is not a typical 4-wire O2 sensor. It's a 7-wire Wideband O2 sensor. The secondary O2 sensor however is a typical 4-wire O2 sensor.
Other than that, make sure to spray some penetration stuff (like PB Blaster) on there first, to make it a little easier to get them off. |

Actually.....the primary on mine is a 5-wire. Is that common or no?

Re: 96 Civic HX o2 Sensor Replacement....
I just replaced the manifold converter on my 97 3 door DX. I can't remember how many plugs either sensor has. I do remember that you will need a special 22mm oxygen sensor tool to remove the sensors. You might be able to unbolt the top heat shield and wiggle it around to get a wrench on the sensor. The bottom sensor is another story. I could not find any wiggle room on that one. I left it in when I took the manifold off and removed the heat shield so I could get a wrench on it.
After you replace your sensors remove the BACK UP fuse from the fuse box next to the battery to clear the code stored in your computer. |
