Part-2 of my P1870 adventure....

So I posted here a few weeks ago asking opinions and advice on my 99 blazer that has a P1870 code. Transmission slippage. So I take my truck into a transmission shop. he has it for a day and a half

Now initially I thought I was going to need my valve body replaced and or my clutch converter. So thats what I was expecting

Well after the mechanic looks at it he tells me that it is an internal transmission problem and that he will need to take it out and open it.

He quoted me between 1600-2600 dollars. He said if just the "soft parts" are damaged then it will be in the 1600 range. he said if the "hard parts" are damaged it could be in the 2600 range. He said that he would charge me 600 to take it out and open it and then would apply that 600 to my other costs. So it would either be 1100 or 2100.

Does this make sense?

Only reason Im a little confused is because cant I get a rebuilt transmission (new to me) put in my blazer for less then 2000? Why is he quoting me 2600? I dont know, I plan on taking it to another few shops. he said the oil was contamnated(sp?)

btw

4x4 6cylinder w/ 164,000miles

I may be wrong, but I don't think so. How much does a tranny like the one I need go for? With and without labor?

If a new tranny goes for under 2000 (w/ labor) why would I get mine rebuilt for more when I could get a new (to me) one put in....

enlightment please!

Re: Part-2 of my P1870 adventure....

What year? I had the tranny rebuilt on my wifes 92 last year for $1600. I looked into the GM rebuilt trannies. They did have a better warranty but the price and warranty didn't cover r&r labor so a rebuild by a local shop was a better deal.

Check around for a second opinion, ask your mechanic or the auto parts counter guys for a referal to a reputable shop.

Its a `99......I dont really have a regular mechanic. Im not from around here or else I probably would have by now. However the auto parts guy isn't a bad idea. Need to go in there anyways.
