Ducati 999 Special

Hi there, this is my new proyect, a New-Ray 1/12 Ducati 999:

I found this picture in internet and I inmediatelly wanted to tune my bike.

But later I tought I can do better, changin the regular swing arm to a single sided one, and more agressive paint:

Im going to use a part of the fairing from a Ducati Supersport 1000, because the 999 fairing is too flat:

I allready made the sketches of the single sided arm and the necesary modifications, because the rear brake and traction, I havent decide if use a tubular swing arm or monocoque tipe, I have to bend the rim spokes to fit the new swing arm:

This is the frame anf fork:

These are the parts to modify:

I saw a sketch from when ducati was planning to release the sport classic concepts, like paul smart replica:

And Im thinking in paint the bike like that, I dont know yet.
Here is my sketch:

I allready made the main arm:

It came from a broken sunglasses, I liked the oval shape:

Next step is to cut the swing arm:

The technique for bending the rim consit in use a lighter, make circular movement under the rim, and then press it against an objet that has the distance I need to bend:

There it is, a rim for single sided arm:

And a quick check out:
Next step is to complete the swinr arm structure, it is similar to the ducati mh900e and monster st4:

Here in mexico is hard to fin materials, so I have to use anything, to get a thin tubing, I got it from a candy:

Here is the rear view:

I added primer to find imperfections, I havent decided if paint it yellow or the paul smart version:

Next, I cutted of the bottom of the fairing, now I have to make the parts fit:

To paste really hard two pieces, I use krazy and sodium bicarbonate, it makes a really strong union ans is sandable:

Here is the two parts glued and with primer, the union was perfect:

And here is with the ducati yellow:

Icutted off 3mm to the forks to maka the front end lower:

Here are the basic paint pattern:

The bike getting togheter again:

I added a anti heat cover made with thin aluminum sheet:

Here are the parts with grille inserts:

Really close to the sketch:

More pictures:

Desmosedici type exhaust pipes:

Radiator grille:

The monoarm:

With her original sister:

And more pictures:

Another unique model for my shelves!

Re: Ducati 999 Special

Really ingenious work you've done... With some more cleaning before painting, I believe you'll have a handsome model.

Too bad Tamiya is not producing more Ducati kits.

Re: Ducati 999 Special

Thanks, yes tamiya hasnt released new models, I really wish to build the mh900e or the multistrada, we will have to wait.
But thats something good in some way, if I get a tamiya kit I try to build it as close as I can to the real model, instead If I saw a New-ray model in a store I inmediatelly purchase it and in my head I start to thin what modifications to do.
