Question Brake Pressure Switch and Cruise Control

The sticky about this doesn't mention RUST. My Brake Pressure Switch is fulled rusted around the top rim. I do not see or feel any fluid leakage, but there is significant rust there. Cruise Control has never worked although many things like the vent buttons for the rear window vent motors do not work either. I always thought this was due to old or corroded or no longer conducting switches or possibly humidity seeping in the van cause it seems damp in there often. Anyway since my switch is all rusty think I should replace it? I talked to Ford today about this after reading about it here on the site and they say the switch is on national back order.

Re: Brake Pressure Switch and Cruise Control

Yea was going to replace mine on my 2001 and it was on back order. Just to see if it would stop ABS and brake light from lighting up ever now and then..

Re: Brake Pressure Switch and Cruise Control

have you seen whether it's actually possible to screw in/out the switch? mine had a lot of surface rust but actually went on/off pretty cleanly.

i got my switch from rockauto (or was it fordparts.com) in about three days. have you tried them?

I once bought 4 remanned calipers from RockAuto cause on the surface it looked cheaper and easy to deal with them. At the end of it all I realized I'd paid nearly exactly what I would've at Autozone or Advance auto and my only reason for going with RockAuto was cause I thought I was getting A DEAL. Rockauto is rock SOLID and good seller, but I won't do it again. I ended up paying a lil more with the shipping involved and also waiting a lot longer for my parts than I needed to.

I didn't try to remove my switch. I don't want to until I'd be sure I was replacing it. Perhaps all that rust is just from dew over the years and our switches are oK? I can't see brake fluid rusting it out.... although my cruise control still doesn't work either.
