WIP:Greg Anderson's Vegas General NHRA Pro Stock
This is the 2003 car Greg Anderson ran in the NHRA Pro Stock class. I'll be using a Summit Revell kit as a base, and a Comp Resins Pontiac Grand Am body along with lots of other parts from Pro Tech, MCG, and MAS. I've got the Slixx decals, and the HoK paint, and I'm ready to go!
Here's a shot of the real thing to give you an idea of what I'm after. Slixx calls out for some pretty cool colors for this car, and I'm also planning on re-doing the side graphic fades myself. Hopefully I didn't bite off too much. First thing to tackle was the chassis. Not much was left of the stock Pontiac chassis. I cut off the front frame from the firewall forward and remade it. As well as an all new roll cage with drivers area funny car cage. The wheel tubs were modified to fit inside the resin body, and all new bars were added up front. Here's the progression of the chassis work. Primered..... Painted and decaled. I used Tamiya Light Gunmetal, and Scale Motorsport CF film for the tubs and panels. And finally cleared with three coats of Omni. With the chassis taken care of, I've also been working on the engine. I used the kit block and heads, and replaced the valve covers with a set of Scale Repros Plus cast metal ones. These were polished up and installed. The kit intake was carbon fibered, cleared, and then I added the "Wilson" decals to match the ref. pics I had. The rear suspension has been totally reworked. I used the kit center section, and then added all new 4 link brackets, wheelie bar mounts, and new 4 link mounts to the chassis. New wheelie bars were also added.

Re: WIP:Greg Anderson's Vegas General NHRA Pro Stock
A bit more progress.....
The body was opened up, and test fitted to the new chassis. I already had the entire rear suspension done as one unit, so I centered it up in the chassis, and tacked it into place. Then I proceeded to add the two lower 4 link bars with a set of 1504 rod ends and tubing from RB Motion. These were mounted to the chassis brackets with some Scale Hardware brass bolt pins. Once the two lower links were on, I made up the top two links and installed those the same way. I was so stoked with how the rear suspension went in, I decided to push my luck and give the front suspension a shot. Since I had totally re-made the front of the chassis, I was on my own for the lower control arms and lower strut mounts. Using the kit frame as a guide, I made up four new lower arms with more 1504 RB Motion rod ends and tubing. I then drilled out a piece of aluminum tuning to serve as a lower strut mount/control arm mount. Once theses were all lined up, I pinned them to the chassis with more Scale Hardware brass bolts and a few RB bolts. Next the kit rack had it's tie rods cut off. I brush painted the silver and black, and mounted the rack into the chassis. More RB rods were used for the rack eyelets, and I made up a set of tie rods using some 1503 RB rod ends and tubing. These were then mounted to a set of Sprint Car PE steering blocks using more Scale Hardware bolts.

Re: WIP:Greg Anderson's Vegas General NHRA Pro Stock
Next step on the rear suspension was a new set or rear coil overs. Using the kit ones as a guide, I turned two new bodies on the lathe, topped with RB rod ends. The coils are craft wire wrapped around a brass rod, and then painted with some Tamiya blue. Once assembled the pair was installed.
Up front, I turned two front strut bodies like the rears, and wound two new coils as well. These were then mounted and I added an axle pin to each side and then glued on the front rotors. The Slixx sheet calls out for two colors of HoK paint on this car. A Razeberry red metallic, and a Silver/white pearl white. I had originally planned on doing all the fades myself, but after starting to decal it was pretty clear Slixx did a great job on this sheet and all I needed to do was use what they gave me. All the separate body panels were shot with the Razeberry Red, and then once dry I taped the puzzle back together for a few mock-ups. Once I was ready to start decaling the main graphics I determined where my paint lines needed to be and masked off the rear deck lid and shot the back end with the silver/white. It is an exact match to the decal! Once the side graphics were on, you can't see where the paint stops and the decal begins. The rear wing was also shot at the same time. These panels are all ready to be cleared now. A few more....... I also decided to turn a new oil tank to replace the kit one. ClayK

Re: WIP:Greg Anderson's Vegas General NHRA Pro Stock
Beautiful work, it is a piece of art. I just wanted to know if all the braces for the rear end are scratch built?

Re: WIP:Greg Anderson's Vegas General NHRA Pro Stock
That's the most detailed summit chassis I've ever seen. Paint and decals are spot on. I used the same chassis for my HKS 180 dragster.

Clay, it's great to see you here, and it's great to see this masterpiece-in-the-making again. I still don't know how you do it. Amazing work.
