Does anyone know how the camshaft on 91 accord operates ?
ok , heres the situation I had a previous post about my 91 accord with no spark . I replaced a few things in the distributer , ignitor , coil , with still no spark . I had a friend who works on muscle cars come over and trouble shoot for me . We found that the rotor was not turning , so we thought it was the distibuter . So we took it a step further. We opened the engine valve cover and I went into the car to start it . We found only a quarter of the cam shaft turning and the other section stationary . He told me that the cam seems to have broken . My question is . Is the cam one piece or is it split into sections . I think he is right , but now I need to know what to do as this seems like an expensive fix there for I will scrap this . Any feed back would be great .

I gather it is a SOHC. If so it is all one piece and both ends should turn in sync. Unsual that a cam would break but maybe the distrbutor froze and took the camshaft with it.

Are you the one that said it made a screeching sound when it quit?
Sounds like it spun a cam bearing, seized and snapped the cam in two... A head from a junkyard wouldn't cost too much...maybe your friend could help you? |

If the cam did break you might also check for bent valves or damaged piston heads.

I agree with post number three.Low oil pressure causes this(lack of oil or not being changed).I would look for an engine.
