1999 Honda Accord/EGR VALVE
My check engine soon light came on. I took it to Auto Zone to have the codes check. They said it was the egr valve. The code was something like PO4071. My brother-in-law is a mechanic and he said it was the egr also. I bought one and put it on, but it did not fix the problem. Can someone help me with this? My engine is a V-6. I did have the codes erased, but it only lasted a few miles before the light came back on.
Thanks, James |

Re: 1999 Honda Accord/EGR VALVE
I recall that Honda had a TSB on the V6 because of plugged EGR ports. It was a cleaning procedure as I recall..
I don't know where to find it exactly, but the number is 99-085. You might search for it on-line....hope this helps..Glen |

Re: 1999 Honda Accord/EGR VALVE
The EGR code comes on because the ECU is telling the EGR to open, but is not getting a signal back from the EGR that it is opening. So, if not the EGR valve, it could be a vacuum hose, the EGR solenoid or the constant air regulator or the plug that connects to the EGR. There is a sequence of tests to follow to narrow the problem . Clogged ports would cause you to fail the NOX test.

Re: 1999 Honda Accord/EGR VALVE
I just replaced the EGR valve last night on my 2K accord 4cyl.
Very simple to do. Just make sure you erase the stored CEL code before you start the car.

Re: 1999 Honda Accord/EGR VALVE
Thanks guys for all your help. It was clogged up with carbon. I took it to the Honda place and they took the egr off and cleaned out the port hole. I think they may have done some kind of upgrade also. Seems to be working fine. The cost was $146.00. Thanks again,
