Brakes
I took my 98 Sierra 1500 4x4 ext cab in for its 185000 km service and they are telling me that there is rubber in the brake fluid. They say it is from the master cylinder, so i will need a new one. Or can it be from something else?
They are also saying I need new rear brake shoes. I got a quote for 3 different manufacturers for the parts and was wondering which one would be the best for a tight budget. They are GM parts, AC Delco and Jobber parts. I'm probably going to go with the GM brake shoes, but I have no clue if the performance of the master cylinder will be acceptable with the cheaper parts. Any input? |

Re: Brakes
Usually AC and GM are the same thing, but most of the time you can pick up the AC a lot cheaper, I like Raybestos pads and shoes myself have had a lot of luck with them. No matter the brand of brake shoes they will work with the gm master cyl. You could also look at a new aftermarket, just stay away from the remans. You have ruber in different parts of the brake system, most of the time you see rubber in the system it is usually from the brake hoses, now that depends on where you have found the rubber.

Re: Brakes
They never told me where they found the rubber, but I have a friend of mine who works there going to have a look at the service report and let me know exactly what it is.

Re: Brakes
Just an update here, I had my friend look at teh brakes and it turned out that my brake shoes were still at 50% and the wheel cylinder was leaking.
