Re: ECM Motor Fuse

I can tell you what not to do!! My ’95 was blowing the ECM 20 amp fuse while I was on the road. I kept replacing it trying to get back home. I ran out of 20 amp fuses, so I put a 30 amp in. It didn’t blow the 30 amp, but the engine shut down as it did when blowing the 20 amp and I had to be towed back in. It’s not showing any codes, so all I can do is troubleshot with the GM shop manual. I replaced the crankshaft sensor with a new one, replaced the VCM with a used one and it’s still a no start situation, with no spark. I’m still looking for the problem. If and when I find it I will post it.

Re: ECM Motor Fuse

Oxygen sensor might be shorted. Will cause very rough idle to the point it will cut off. check all of your engine grounds including the ground for your trans.

Re: ECM Motor Fuse

wiring short, also,

IT IS COMPLETELY RETARDED TO REPLACE A 20 AMP FUSE WITH A 30 AMP TO STOP IT BLOWING.

All you will start is a fire.

Welcome on your first post on AF.
What engine code and what PCM and also what ecm fuse?
If TBI with 2 Injectors in it check for a pinched wire under air filter adapter on TBI.

Is a bad ground/no ground going to cause a fuse to blow??

I think I can see why you're no longer a moderator.

That's a little rude. He said that he knew that it was a mistake. Let's try to be a little more respectiful.

That's a low blow and competely uncalled for.

Re: ECM Motor Fuse

Ground or some of the wiring has worn through somewhere.

Re: ECM Motor Fuse

a year ago my 97 would run like crap and shut off also. Im not sure if its the same system but. I would get an o2 post cat code. SO i replaced it and nothing happen. Turns out where all the wires come up to the big harness in the back of the engine bay. The wires wore though the Loom and were slowly one by one being cut on the back on the engine as the motor moves slighty. I used a zip tie concoction to hold the wires away from everything. If u cant find anything i would start by looking around that area. around the back of the motor and the fire wall.

Re: ECM Motor Fuse

HINT: On a '95, the ECM fuse may also power the fuel pump.
