Now this should be exciting - McLaren versus Enzo on 5th Gear...

Next week on 5th Gear:

Quote:
Mac vs Enzo
Tiff Needell tests the McLaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo. They're the two supercars he's enjoyed most over the past decade, and now for the first time he's brought them together to try and choose a favourite. In a unique test, he takes these ultra-rare supercars, worth in excess of £2million, to the public roads. You'll get an exclusive insight into what it's like to actually use these cars in real life and we even see them at a petrol station - how does £100 to fill the tank sound?
http://fifthgear.five.tv/jsp/5gmain.jsp?lnk=410

I wonder which F1 he'll be using? I do hope they get them out onto the track as well.

Re: Now this is exciting - McLaren versus Enzo on 5th Gear...

A friend seems to think he saw at the end of the last fifth gear it showed preview of the next one and it showed a HDF car that was Orange. He says F1 LM but I dont know how sure he can be? (his F1 knowledge is limited) We will have to wait and see, but I sure hope its an LM because I will be watching!!!

Not to my knowledge, the only original Papaya Orange road car remains in it's unmolested form.

What there are, and what this could be, are no fewer than 5 short tailed F1 GTRs that have been resprayed in Papaya Orange giving them the look of an F1 LM. All of them seem to have been converted for road use as well. As soon as photos come out it should be very clear which car it is.

#16R seems a good possibility. It would be incredible if McLaren actually loaned them the LM.

Well no sense letting it sit around and collect dust forever. I just can't imagine Ron Dennis putting the LM up against an Enzo like that. I'm sure he's tired of being beaten by red cars all the time. I think it's hard to be certain of the outcome on such a comparison - it really comes down to the focus of the test. I obviously have a favorite, but I respect the abilities and the advancements then Enzo has benefitted from having come along a decade later. I wouldn't be surprised or terribly disappointed if the outcome is not as we would want.

I actually think that a road converted GTR or LM makes much more sense against the Enzo. Afterall the Enzo is barely a road car itself. The suspension settings of an LM/GTR are much more suited for a numbers comparison against the Enzo too.

yep sorry, i mean because i would pick the LM over the Enzo anyday, no matter what the outcome is. Its an all time fave car, nothing comes close! (ok, maybe almost an F50 GT!)

In no way will i predict the results of them 2 cars up against each other, its clear that the enzo uses a lot of more modern technology, but i wont comment as im not too clued up on enzo's, to tell the truth i do think they look quite ugly though

Would put good money on the cars being both nick masons, he's got a enzo and a converted gtr, he also let top gear mess about with his enzo.

Three reports have come in that the car shown in the teaser at the end of the last program was orange though, which would rule out Mason's red GTR.

so all the signs are pointing towards an LM going up against the Enzo? I guess if McLaren were ever going to let the LM out, this would be the occasion...

I say 99% it's 16R with those descriptions. I think Ron is done letting his F1s being used by magazines and tv shows since promotion isn't needed anymore.
