1977 Porsche 924 Martini Championship Edition
Finally finished the Martini I've been sippin' for the past 2 months
I still want to make a better exhaust pipe; I'll do that tomorrow. These are some of the first custom laser printed decals that I designed; they came out great. I had intended to build a silver 924 like a local car, but when I saw pics of this Champion Edition (made in a brief run in '77) and realized I could make the decals, I decided to give this version a go. I've been waiting to build this car for the past 10 years or so and just finally got around to it. The Monogram 924 is a dead simple kit, it paint details nicely. A few fit/warp issues were the main challenges to this kit which has fewer than 40 pieces. This is a model you almost never see built, and I doubt anyone has attempted this version so it's a 1 of 1.

Cool. You seem to enjoy filling your stable with rare cars. Nice work as usual. That rear glass must weigh a ton.

Very cool!! I love when car companies do something cool enough to warrant special edition cars. Like, you know... Race and then showboat about it.
Looks spot on to the pics I've seen. (Except maybe you need a rear wiper?) |

Great job Bob!! The decals look perfect. Are those the kit wheels? Perfect execution!

Well done model. Very clean. From a former 924 owner, yes the rear hatch glass did weigh a lot. 84lbs. IIRC |

Re: 1977 Porsche 924 Martini Championship Edition
Thanks for the comments!
Frank, the wheels came with the kit. I merely bathed them in Easy Off for about a minute to vaporize the plating and then painted them to match. I had to use Zinsser B-I-N sealer (a white shellac-based primer) between coats of Tamiya white primer; this old red plastic bleeds and the white primer was sort of pink, and the four spots of filler were a completely different color after the primer No bleeding problem after that, and the top color is Tamiya pure white.

Very nice work as usual i would even say and as so many others, i havenīt seen this model before either.
Did the American version really had such awful big lights at the sides?

This is the photo I traced the contours of my decal art from, also using a scan of the body to get the overall size correct. Of course now you can see how my decals were mounted a bit too high and too forward (I should have looked at this photo again w/o just going by memory ) and aren't 100% perfect; but I'm not worried, it's just a simple shelf model that gets the point across, isn't intended for contests, and it's not like Tamiya's going to do one better than this I do wish I had shaved off the black side moldings though. At least I have some thin decal stripes to use instead of masking/painting them.
