2000 Blazer starts and dies

We have a 2000 Blazer with 140k on it. We have owned for 1 year. We have had a problem that has happened 3 times in a year. The blazer will start but only run for maybe 3 seconds and then it dies. 15 minutes later you can start it and it will run fine. HELP!

Re: 2000 Blazer starts and dies

Do a tune up and replace the battery. This will solve your problem.

What engine trans and mileage?
Check eng/body computer codes.
Right after it does it.
And post back codes.
Does it have a anti theft light that comes on when you turn key on and then go out after system and bulb check?
If so does it go out or stay on when it does it?

Re: Re: 2000 Blazer starts and dies

I think I may know the problem, My security light comes on sometimes and I was sent a service bulletin by somebody on this forum. One of the symptoms is my starting problem. I hoping that following the steps on the bulletin will solve it!

Make sure that you come back and let us know.

Here's the bulletin for anyone else that wants it. My bandwidth was reset so the link should be good for a while:

Re: 2000 Blazer starts and dies

This has just recently started happening with my 98 blazer. I tried starting fluid to no avail, other than using up a bottle of starting fluid; then just waited about 20 minutes and it ran like normal.

The 'service engine soon' light came on and I had it checked at autozone.

The codes P0101 (mass air flow problem) and P0108 (MAP sensor and barometric sensor) registered. Unfortunately 2 seperate diagnostics couldn't tell me which to replace. Someone here recommended replacing the fuel filter which I plan on doing tomorrow; but I wonder if that is the problem since the blazer will eventually start and run just fine.

Re: 2000 Blazer starts and dies

Jhharris22.
A 98 is a couple of years away from a 2000.
And if you keep on using starting fluid you may blow it sky high.
Never ever use starting fluid on a plastic intake.
If it blows the shrapnel from the explosion can kill you.
This is a different vechicle and may be a different problem.
Two different problems and two different vechicles on one post will get two or more confusing answers.
Start a new post or thread and some one will help you.
Or if you want the repair flow charts for the two codes here is a good link to All data DIY that will led you right threw them.

Re: 2000 Blazer starts and dies. How many have this problem?

Many thanks to Blazee for the Security Bulletin on this issue. I have been having this problem since my first year of ownership, when I first called GM Roadside Protection. Since then, I have been to my dealer three times and have not had this issue successfully corrected (in fact, after my last visit when two wires were replaced to attempt to correct the problem, my lights have unexplainedly gone out while driving!).

Today, I successfully contacted Chevrolet, who interceded on my behalf with the dealer (whom I like/respect...just having trouble getting the problem fixed) and is thankfully agreeing to conduct a "manager's review" to hopefully rightly fix these problems at their expense (started this process when I had warranty in good faith, but it continued past warranty period). I plan to send both Chevrolet and my dealer any information I can find on this problem including suggestions found on boards like this one.

The "Security Light" coming on while driving (intermittent, for me) and then successive shut-down of engine (have to wait 10-15 minutes to re-start) has been remarkably mentioned often on this board and others. I would really appreciate anyone having this problem responding to this thread so I can show both dealer and the Customer Relationship Manager Chevy just how common the problem is (along with the Service Bulletin). Some other boards have suggested that the ignition switch replacement is the solution - any comments on that? Has anyone done that or had it done to solve this problem, or any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your time.
