Kit Reviews Section?

There has been a suggestion that we revamp the kit reviews section. Currently they are in one thread and have not been updated in a very long time. The suggestion (that I like too) is to give each kit it's own thread so multiple mambers can comment and maybe even argue various merits. All review threads can then be indexed in the how-to/review sticky thread. Perhaps further down the track if the numbers of reviews demand it we could ask for another forum. Don't think that will be necessary for a long time if at all.

So please feel free to vote and comment. Especially the guys who wrote reviews in the past.

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

I would make a Review forum, not kit review

Don't want to have this discussion again in few month when it will have other kind of review (tools, transkit etc..)

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

I think it's easy for everybody to post some comments about the last kit they've built or the last decals they've used. Separate threads would be nice, a sub - forum would be perfect.

I would colaborate as much as I can

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

i think there might be need for a different type of image storage space for members to upload some pics of the kits.

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

Definately a good idea.

Definately also include detail kits, decals, Airbrushes and other materials.

Image question is a good one. If the images "dissappear", then the functionality of the review would be somewhat reduced. ALthough images could be restricted to the original "lead" review?

I think "uniformity" of review structure is also important. The whole thing would benefit immensely if all reviews are in same or VERY similar format.

Maybe it would be a good idea to include a "submission to moderator" stage for approval i.e. reviews are checked before they are posted?

my 2cents

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

If any images disappear, I could have a backup copy on ScaleWiki. I don't want to become the image host of the forum, but if a review lack picture after a while, a mod could take them from my server and update the review here. I can still give 2gb of web space to the Wiki, and more if needed.

Not a good idea imo. See the FAQ.. It is updated basically only by Jay, which sadly have no time now. That make the FAQ over 1 year old without update (Most of the link are dead etc..) so a submission wouldn't be a good idea. But a bit like Wiki, we could have some Moderator (only for this section" that could edit the review of others. We already have good Moderator here anyway.

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

Pretty strong positive result so far! We should get a lot of reviews written.

I've indexed all the reviews in the old review thread. It's in the old How-to thread for the time being.

Re: Re: Kit Reviews Section?

Hmmmm this may be a good idea here.

Index by car make rather than by model manufacturer. Most will come in looking for a specific car and may not have a clue that the same model is offered by several different manufacturers.

So for example, have a category for let's say Lamborghini, then a sub category for Countach, Miura and such with the kit manufacturer noted in the subject line. . .

I also like the idea of a review forum . I got same view like lambo003 about the Index by car make rather than by model manufacturer.
But i personaly love kit reviews with some good pics becouse sometimes one pic tells more than tousand words.

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

I'll leave it as is for now, was just easier for me to do it that like that. There are a lot of different ways the index could be organised, will depend on how many reviews we get. Besides, anybody with a shred of computer savy will know how to search the page to find what interests them.

Only if demand is huge can I see the need for another sub-forum.

Re: Kit Reviews Section?

Okay we've had plenty of votes in the affirmative. So who is going to post the first new review?
