new stuff

Laying out my rough pencil to transfer and ink.

Got hired to draw all the VW models for my local dealer.

Passat:

This will be traced again and it'll be fixed up. Inking comes tonight then scan and render in Photoshop.

Re: new stuff

Mostly freehand...I used an elipse set to go over my sketched wheel lines. (The rear actually needs to be tweaked.) You can see how many times I go over something till it has the attitude I'm after. I used a few straight edges to shore up the body lines and the rest is just stylized shapes.

Oh...I used a light table! lolol

I guess that means this won't make a super summer blockbuster but it'll do great on DVD.

Just heard from the customer and I may have to do another one of the 06...no problem.

Nice and clean!

I have a date with the light table tonight too - the Studebaker Avanti and Ray Loewy, designer.

Re: new stuff

Yeah it's the old version. The new version has a much better design.

I like your work, i's very clean and has a great perspective... headlights are weired...

So you will draw a Golf / Jetta / Touareg too?

What about Fox, New Beetle Touran and Pheaton? would be a lot work... have fun!!

You know what's an absolutely awesome VW? The TDI Touareg. I had one for a week - V10, twin turbos, 553 lb. ft. of tq... unbelievable. And beautiful in a clean, understated sort of way.

it is much rougher than usual but once I start tracing it in Illy I can modify whatever.

Customer loved it we'll see how it comes out.

In Illy when I layout my lines I can compensate for size easily. The overall height of the front tire is small too so after I get it traced I'll scale it up a notch then make sure all my outlines are the right size.

This wasn't intended as a WIP so I'll just throw up the major stuff.

If I was gonna hand ink this I would transfer to my inking paper and leave notes all over so when I came at it with my tools I'd know what I was thinking. The computer gives me the ability to think on the fly and know that nothing is permanent.

It would normally take about 2 hours to ink. I'm thinkin I can knock this out in Illy in about 45 minutes...lol....we'll see.

One more on that wheel.

In case you're wondering how I got the VW logo so perfect...well...I sweated over it! I drew on my inner resources and channeled the Illy Gods of old. I reached deep into my illustrative soul and I went to

http://www.brandsoftheworld.com

big time logos!! all vector! amazing!!! great site...the pros I know go there.
