The ultimate project: 1/12 Tamiya McLaren MP 4/6
I bought this kit in december '03 from e-bay.de for about 60€ (A really good deal, if you ask me ). And after I opened the box, I knew I had to detail it. The kit has already so many details, it's perfect for a super-detailed build. I searched through the web and found a detailset for this kit from Perfect Parts. With the cost of 140$, It's not cheap but from the opinion of many model builder's worth every cent. But the disappointment came quick. These sets are all sold out and out of production...(they pop up on ebay from time to time but for hundreds of dollars). There was no way to build it without the set so I waited and then in summer '04 I got the message about the re-release of the Perfect Parts sets. I quickly pre-ordered a set and after a long wait the sets arrived this week.
And today I started to build the kit. I haven't done much, only some fitting tests and I removed all the mold lines and injection marks from the engine parts. I will take some pics in the next few days after I sprayed some layers of primer. But of course, every thread is useless without pics , so I took some pics of all kit parts and of course from some of the aftermarket parts. and now the important detail parts This is a set of vacuformed windshields for 1/12 Tamiyas McLaren MP 4/6, Williams FW-14B, Ferrari 641/2 from Chevron (out of production). This will replace the out of scale windshield from the kit. (maybe the only bad thing about the kit) and of course some Marlboro Decals and Tire + Temperature Decals Finisher's 3 Step MP 4 Red, maybe the best color for the "old" McLarens. guess what this is....sunglasses... No, Perfect Parts 1/12 Brake set and Let me tell you, this is worth the money (60$). These sets are simply amazing! I only put these parts together and look at this... Perfect Parts 1/12 McLaren MP 4/6 full detail set This is very important, Formula Perfect Manual, got it from E-bay in perfect conditions I have 30+ more pics of all the detail parts that I will use for this kit but I think it would be better to post them with the progress pics after I used them. Ok, one more thing, This will be a really long build !!! And I still have to finish my S2000... Last edited by Decs0105; 04-06-2014 at 05:58 AM. |

Outstanding, should be awesome. I love the vacuform windshields, never knew they existed.

Hi,
Will be watching this build closely. I've got the same kit and the Perfect Parts Brakes & Detail set arrived a couple of weeks ago. Where did you get the Finisher's Paints from ? Good Luck Craig |

Holy cow! Those Perfect Parts sets are awesome! The boxes make me think there's jewellery inside... just as expensive I suppose, but they do look worth the money.
You're certainly going all out with the detail for this kit - but isn't it fun to buy virtually ALL the detail kits available on the planet, knowing the high standard of finished product you'll have in the end. Looking forward to this build TS111, and don't forget to put up lots and lots and lots and lots of pics for us all! Good luck! |

Looks like you've got everything! Will be looking forward to seeing it progress.
I wonder if PP will ever do a set for the Williams FW14B. |

Hey, I was wondering if you could do me a favor of making a resin copy of some parts because I have the same kit and some parts got messed up, if you could give an estimate so I know how much it would cost would be cool to. Looks like another great build

HEHE.. Yes, I saw this build before and it is really a inpiration. I wrote Bil some e-mails and asked him some questions, he's a really nice guy. I am happy if my McLaren turns out as half as good Maybe he writes some comments when he sees my thread, would be awesome |
