Why did Ford change from Nissan Patrol to Mazda Tribute for Maverick?

This is one question I would never understand. Why the hell did Ford change its Maverick being based on the Mazda Tribute from Nissan Patrol. Nissan Patrol (even the older one) is much bigger, more powerful and stronger than the Tribute any day. Can any of u guyz plz explain.

Here is my guess....The Mazda Tribute is made at the Ford St. Louis plant on the Escape assembly line...so maybe corporate profits and bottom line are involved here.

Possibly. Maybe Nissan was doing too well itself and didn't want its car to meddle with another brand as to destroy its rep.

hey, I saw that old Nissan....on the web....
I guess out here in the States, the soccer moms aren't going to like that much. The Tribute and Escape here in the US are more like the Acura and Lexus RX3xx SUVs that are most popular.

Real 4x4s here are Jeeps and Hummers and 4x4 PU trucks.
