its a few years ago but does anyone remember this...

in the late 90s on watchdog (crime programe in england) i saw a piece about a guy in the u.k. that had made a lot of money by selling companies illegaly or something like that, and the footage showed him with a number of exotic cars including an f1 and an f1lm, just wanted to know if anyone knows the guy and which f1's they were????

It's the same guy who sold LM03 to Frank Selldorff, who again sold it to Ralph Lauren.

Chap named Morrison or something. Committed accounting fraud, if I remember right.

He had approached our company to do some land banking, only there was a slight problem--we were not in the land banking business!

Actually it's not the same person who owned LM3 prior to Mr Selldorff. That was David Morrison and he was an economist who reportedly had some legal difficulties of his own, but nothing relating to any bogus companies.

I believe the person behind this story was named James Munroe. He didn't own an LM, but instead owned a longtail GTR that was painted Paypaya Orange and raced in the British GT series. The GTR was #27R but I don't know the chassis number of his road car. I think I may have it at home, but I will have to check. Last I heard, David Clark is in possession of GTR #27R, but that was a few years back now.

You'll find a bit more detail on James Munroe in this old thread:

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I was referring to the Munroe chap, not the economist.

Yeah, it died alright. Along with someone's spelling and grammar.

That I did.... but I'm having trouble today remembering how I came to that conclusion.

It seems you need to document why you come to certain conclusions

" It would be kind of hard to explain how I put it all together, and of course it's a bit of speculation as well, but maybe someday we'll know more."

I'm sure you are right though, i know how you are with making assumptions. You have to be pretty sure to say a car belongs to someone.

Well it was in the UK and it was around that time so i wouldent bet against it. There was somee footage of an F1 roadcar in the documentry but it was green i strongly susspect archive footage of XP5. Wish i had it on tape. Wonder what happend to the car presumibly it went through T&C.

That's a bit of a coincidence! I recorded the documentary featuring James Munroe when it was on a few years ago - it was a British programme called "The Car's The Star", and it was a 15 minute documentary all about the development of the F1.

I suddenly remembered this the other weekend, and decided I ought to find the tape and rescue the recording (as I'm about to get rid of my VCR). I've transferred it to my PC as an MPEG - the quality is pretty good, but I'm going to have a go at tweaking it slightly - it came from a long-play VHS cassette, and I'd like to see if I can up the quality a bit.

Once I've done that, I'm happy to make it available if anyone has the space to host it - the current version is about 1GB, but I'll probably compress it a bit more once I'm happy with the video grab.

Don't know when I'll get around to finishing it off, but it should be within the next week or so. If you're interested in the F1, it's well worth seeing.
