ABS recall ? reimbursement ?

HI,

I had a ABS light on, and ABS was not working. Took it to dealer.

Had not heard about the ABS recall, and I WANT TO KNOW IF WHAT THEY DID SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE RECALL.

On the receipt it says:
CONCERN: customer states ABS light is on
CORRECTION: Diagnose and replace rear ABS wire harness
part number 8-97233-422-0
decription: Harness Kit
price: $43.55, labor = $210, tax = $3.59, total = $257

Was this repair suppoed to be covered by the ABS recall????

If so, how do I beg/demand for a refund?

Thanks, I'd love to get to know my 257 washingtons again!!!

I'm original owner, and the repair was done 3/20/04

Re: ABS recall ? reimbursement ?

I think the ABS recall all they did was reflash the the ABS computer with a new ABS program. No parts.

Sounds like amigo-2k says the repair was different than the recall, anyone care to say differently, I'd be happy to get money back.

I'm also conceerned they may have figures a way to charge me for the repair when it "may" have been the recall. What were te symptoms the recall was repairing, and is it possible, they charged me for a repair that might have "actually" been the recall problem???

thanks a bunch!

Re: ABS recall ? reimbursement ?

The recall was only for the algorithm in the ABS computer. They could do this by flashing the eprom in the system or replace the module. Nothing to do with the wiring.

Didn't they also have an ABS recall for the 1998-? that had the *continuously* running ABS motor issue ?

Re: ABS recall ? reimbursement ?

nope they never did. If the ones that had the running abs motor were lucky when it happend during their warranty, Isuzu then replaced it. If not, to bad, so sad ...

Wow! $210 for labor seems like an awful lot for hanging a wiring harness. My ABS light has been on for the last 18K miles, Solster. The brakes work fine -- just no ABS. I've been driving 28 years without ABS; I reckon I can continue that way.

I suspect I probably have a wiring harness issue too. There was a posting on this forum a month or so ago about how to get the CEL to flash out the ABS error code. It's just been too dang cold in MI to get out there and check mine. Supposed to be warm in KY this weekend but I've got three PC's to repair plus a 6 hour drive each way so I don't know if I will get time to do it this weekend. Rest assured that when I find out what's wrong with my ABS, I will post the info here.

Re: ABS recall ? reimbursement ?

the only abs recall for rodeos was to replacce the abs module
$43.55 is the exact price for a fuel sending unit and $210 labor sounds about right for that job call th edealer parts dept ask fo rthe part # for your fuel sending unit see if it matches the part # you listed in your post

Where did the reference to a fuel sending unit come from???

2eyefishclaw, among others, is spot on about the ABS recall. It was supposedly an EEPROM update in the ABS computer although I have seen some mentions on this and other forums about some folks getting a whole new computer.

At any rate, the harness never had a recall to my knowledge.

And I still think $210 is pricey for hanging a wiring harness. I don't know what the going rate for shop labor is in CA but in KY that would be about 3 hours. Can't believe it would take more than 45 minutes to an hour to replace a wiring harness.

That's just my opinion.

2eye mentioned fuel sending twice in his post, but maybe that was a slip and he meant wiring harness, who knows...hopefully we'll hear from him!

As for $210 for labor, again, this was before my knowing of the Rodeo Forum, so NOW I'd ask before paying without knowing what's up. That's the value of the forum, before the forum I had to ake the word of the dealer, now I have a forum to consult with!

Thanks everyone! And keep the posts coming!

What is a wiring harness anyways????
