Re: Oil level
how many miles on it? If you are over 100,000 miles, it may be your valve stems or piston rings are worn from time and leaking a bit...if this is the case, you will be getting a bit of blue smoke out of the exhaust.
Oil burning produces blue smoke...not black.

Re: Oil level
close i have 93,000 miles. All of my friends say they have to add oil about once a month or so... i have to add like 4-5 times probably... usually half a quart but i also drive at least 50 miles average per day... lotta freeway and they dont come close to that. i havnt noticed blue smoke comin from the back, ill have someone drive behind me tho and check it out. i just hoped it wasnt abnormal...

Re: Oil level
Are you the original owner? If not how many miles were on the car when you got it? Also do you drive the car hard? If so how often? What kind of oil are you using, mineral based or synthetic? Like Igovert500 said it is probably the valve seals or piston rings. I would say valve seals if the car is not driven hard a lot. But if you race it or drive it hard a lot then it could be your piston rings. I would go and have a compression test and leak down test done to see if there are any problems with either the piston rings or the valves themselves. The valve seals however cannot be diagnosed as the problem without tearing the motor apart.

im also eat n up quite a bit of oil in my LS. i drive my car hard so i burn up alot of oil. no white smoke come n outta the exhaust so i know/think my seals and rings are good. but im gonna be rebuild n the block with some PR3 pistons in a month or two. just need to get me arp head studs, rod bearings and headgasket.
if i dont drive my car hard i dont burn as much oil.

Re: Oil level
Nah i dont drive it too hard. i race it OCCASIONALLY, and that is a big occasionally. ive been babying it, especially lately, since im due for timing belt which im doin next week. i got the car at 61K from the dealer. There are curb marks on the wheels, a bit of bumper damage, and there was also the original CD player which leads me to believe a female owned it previously. Also looked as if a cat had slept a lot on the back behind the back seats... so i think it was a grandma or something LOL. the car has definitely not been abused, so its hard to imagine rings would wear out so much quicker than others....
