PASSAT - No Turbo till 3000rpm then.... look out!
Hi all
I just bought a 2000 Passt 1.9 TDI, it a nice car but there a problem with the turbo. The engine is dead very flat no power at all, you can put your foot to the floor and watch the children walk by. Its like this until you get to 3000 rpm then it takes off. any suggestions, do I need a new turbo? I would have thought not because it obviously works only above 3000. In the last 10,000 miles its had a new turbo fitted, air flow sensor, and a boost pressure cylinder (whatever that is). I'm at a loss as what to do, how big a problem is it likely to be, I can't afford to spend to much on it. all suggestions welcome Thanks Billy |

Has anyone investigated the mass air flow sensor, a well known failure item that can cause your symptoms. You can disconnect the electrical connector & see if the situation improves. Note, this will set a check engine code.

As I'm not totally familiar with UK cars I will have to say it's usually at the outlet of the air filter housing. Right where the plastic air pipe to the throttle body starts. It's a five pin in-line connector.
