Urgent help needed with injector problem
Okay, I've got a 89 4.0L Cherokee... Lately, I noticed that one of the injectors was leaking gas by the block. So, I pulled out all of the injectors, cleaned them up as best I could, put them back in, and the injector was having the same problem. So, I pulled it out again, and flipped the o-ring over and it worked fine.
Today, another injector started having the same problem, so I pulled it out and tried the same method (flipping the o-ring over and cleaning it up), and it the leak just seemed to get worse. So after fucking with it for a few hours, I pulled it out and noticed that the plastic o-ring where it connects to the fuel rail has a chip out of it... My question is wether this seal can be replaced, or wether I have to get a whole new injector... If I have to replace the injector, does that mean that I'll have to get a whole set of them? I'm so broke my cash bounces, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know, I need to get the jeep running! Thanks in advance! Mike

Re: Urgent help needed with injector problem
Fuel injector seal kit can be had on-line for about $10.
Try http://www.autopartstreet.com/jeep/ I happen to know they carry it for your 89 4.0L Good luck! |

Thanks for the reply... I was freaked out because the auto parts store wanted $115 for a new injector. They didn't have the seal kits in stock and would take 3 days to get one (same with several other shops that I called)...
So, I went to the junkyard and got an injector for $3. Appears that I got the wrong one though... although it looked identical (from an identical engine), it doesn't fit into the fuel rail properly... too loose, plus I noticed that not all the numbers on the new injector matched the numbers on the others. So, I'm going to go back the the junkyard in the morning to return the one I got and get the right one. Gotta love the junkyard...

AAAAAAH!
I'm starting to get mad! So, I thought I'd gotten the right injector from the junkyard, but it fit kinda loose in the fuel rail. So, I went back to the junkyard and got another one. I couldn't find an exact match to the ones that are currently in my jeep, but they all looked identical (except for one of the marking numbers on the injectors). I went back to the junkyard and checked the fitment of the injectors on some of the fuel rails in the junkers, and they fit loose there too (even when I put them in the jeep that I originally took them from), so I figured maybe it was okay. Came home and put one in and I'm still gushing gas really bad. It's just getting worse... The only thing I can think of to do is put some sort of rubber washer on top of the fuel injector so it gets a better seal when the fuel rail is bolted back down... Any other ideas? I'm screwed if I don't get this thing running, and like I said I'm so broke, I don't even think I could afford another $3 injector from the junkyard.

UPDATE:
Okay, so I finally got it to stop leaking gas. I was able to find a universal seal kit that had multiple different sizes/shapes of o-rings, and so now it stopped gushing. Only problem is that it's running real crappy now, and I think I may have inadvertantly switched some of the injector plugs... I should know by now that I need to label things like that, seems like that gets me all the time. Anyways, the current order that I have right now (using wire-colors) is (from front cylindar to back): Green/Black Blue/Black Orange/Black Yellow/Black White/Black (might not be white, but hard to tell because it's dirty, but its very light colored) Brown/Black I looked through my Chilton manual and found no refernce to the order (except to make sure I mark the wires before messing with them ) Anyways, could someone let me know if I have the proper order? I would greatly appreciate the help.
